re. Gwen telling Rhys about her affair -- you write it up as if you thought she blurted it out, then gave him the amnesia pill ('retcon') to cover up her mistake in doing so. She clearly knew what she was doing, drugging him with retcon so that she could tell him in full knowledge that he'd never remember by morning.

So, still foolish. But also cruelly manipulative, and just the sort of thing she berated Jack for doing to her in the first episode. Is this a sign that the 'heart' of Torchwood is becoming as amoral as her colleagues?

pardon my possible naiveté, but i've watched the end 5 times and still can't figure out whats going on with Owen. I won't give it away, but from how he reacted in the cage, to how he "acted" in the dungeon, theres obviously answers to come next week, or the finale the next day, but still, anybody have any ideas?

the amensia pill thing: why, when it was given to Gwen in the first episode, did she have time to be told about, sit for a drink, and then go home and write a novel about her experiences?

because the writers change the properties of whatever they like to fit the episode. you think after the episode where they realized dosing people with the amnesia pill causes psychotic breaks, they'd lock it up?

i really had high hopes for this show but it has been a train wreck all season. there's been nothing "original" or "compelling" about this show. they've destroyed a fairly likable character, Captain Jack, and made him into something remote.

re: Gwen. I THINK that Gwen was trying a dry run, and if she got her forgiveness, she'd do it again, but without the drug next time. But she never got her forgiveness. And she found out that Owen was being true to her either. And I'm guessing that Gwen will eventually have to sort it out herself that she's managed to start down a path she never wanted to go down to start with.

Dude! The last 5 seconds! Granted, a blink may have prevented you from actually seeing what was going on. But, damn! That was something that you really should not have missed!

Owen gets tossed into the cage, and for a moment, becomes a bit serene with losing his life, and the Weevil doesn't attack.

We're already told that the Weevil's have a bit of low level telepathy... so the kicker is...

At the end, Owen goes to the holding area of Torchwood, and gets face to face with the Weevil, now safely back in it's cage, and Owen does a touchless mind meld control thing, causing the Weevil intense pain.

We in the audience are going, WTF?

Ahh yes, completely forgot that bit (watched it a few days back). So basically it's all nicely set up for Owen to be the one who is going to kill Gwen in the finale.

slagar, the guy who went psycho from the retcon pill was given it multiple multiple times over a very long period of time. When used properly and in single doses the drug can still be used effectively.

I thought it was a great episode, although indeed credits have to be given to fight club. Last ep was only big drama; this ep was drama and action and excitement.

Yeah, Captain Jack in this series is unlikeable. His caracter became boring. I understand they want to keep him niceable enough to use him in 'childish' doctor who, but it makes his caractor in this show bad.

Do you guys really suggest that Owen is a bit Weevilish/telephatic? Hmm, in the promo for next week he looks kinda 'normal'.

My take was that Owen simply wanted to die and was seriously pissed when Jack rescued him. Gwen had a moment of weakness. Don't we all? She had to offload and after what Suzie did, who can blame her for pinching the same idea. As previously mentioned, in moderation it should be ok. Just remains to say, TORCHWOOD ROCKS and roll on season 2..I can't wait...

I don't think Owen wanted to die at all. I think he knew that the Weevil fights were very wrong and needed to be stopped. He had been working on their low level telpathy before I think he discovered long ago that he could communicate with them in some way. In the heat of the moment he knew to stop the whole thing for good (and on his own he had NO IDEA that the rest of the team was even coming.) He stepped into the ring, cleared his mind and started calming the beast down. It was only when Jack came in and messed up things that it went wrong. Owen was pissed because he had control of the situation and then lost it.

As for Rhys and the retcon pill change, it wasn't a change at all from when Gwen was given it. When Rhys came home he mentioned that the rest of his friends went on without him because he couldn't hold his liquor. He was already plenty pissed (even off of two pints, what a light weight!) that the final drink and the pill combo knocked him out. Everyone reacts to things differently.

btw is there a reason why most torchwood postings of newer date do not have the tag for torchwood so they cannot be found when clicking on the link in the overview?
