I haven't seen a minute of General Hospital in over 10 years. In the 80s when everyone was talking about how great this soap was, I was busy watching Guiding Light, which I guarantee you was a better show (even though I only saw a few episodes of General Hospital). But Stuart Damon is a fairly well-known actor, and it's interesting to see he's being let go from the show in February (click here if you want to see how his Alan Quartermaine character will vanish from the show).
Damon has been with the show since 1977 (!) but he's been acting in TV and movies for a really long time, way back to the mid-60s. He's been in episodes of The Saint, UFO, Thriller, Space: 1999, Mike Hammer, Fantasy Island, Diagnosis Murder, and Strong Medicine, as well as movies like Star 80, so I'm sure he won't be looking for work for long. I bet he shows up on another soap.

Nooooo! But it's true, he pretty much just walks on and says a line or two and that's it. But still, it'll be sad to see him go.

Here's a casting suggestion for Stuart Damon - send him over to Wales to appear as Captain Jack Harkness' Dad (from whatever century!) on 'Torchwood'.

I remember him as Lesley Ann Warren's prince (son of Ginger Rogers and Walter Pidgeon!) in the 1965 TV production of Cinderella. That's one unchanging face there. Surgery, botox, or a picture in the attic?

That is an old picture but he still doesn't look half bad.
Brian Frons the head of ABC Daytime sucks and hates all actors who have been on the show any length of time. The only actors on GH that he likes are Maurice Bernard, Steve Burton and Kelly Monaco the only reason that he hasn't canned Anthony Geary is because Geary has too much pull with the network.

I switched over to ATWT and GL in college because the girls on my hall watched that instead of GH. When they froze Port Charles, I decided to stop watching. But it was great to watch ATWT and GL and they filled me in on the backstories so it was like I had been watching them for years. I stuck with them both into the 90's.
I remember Alan Quartermain from when I watched in HS. I'm really surprised that they are getting rid of characters that have been around forever. Back in the 70's, 80's and even the 90's that would have caused many to stop watching in a heart beat.

First of all, ABC execs need to realize that today's demographic for viewing soaps is older than it used to be. Thus, this irrational fixation on "younger actors" is not only missplaced but also unwarranted. Why did ratings soar during the week of Luke and Laura's remarriage? Because viewers are thirsty and ravenous to recapture some of the magic provided by integral, captivating veteran actors that still carry with their mere presence on screen the secret ingredient that gives soap operas the draw that they still command.
I'm still in a state of disbelief over the news of Stuart Damon's dismissal. If this really happens, GH will become even more utterly disappointing as a vehicle to provide quality escapist entertainment. And by the way, it would be slightly more understandable if the "younger" characters were worth their weight in extended screen time. But Steve Burton's Jason and Kelly Monaco's Sam are consistently vapid, forced excuses for magnetic, compelling characters I haven't seen since the likes of Stephen Nichols' Stefan Cassadine.

What a sad day... Bit by bit, these Execs make the show less and less enjoyable. Heck the ONLY reason I hang on IS because of the old gang! I am not 20-something... and I don't want to watch 20-somethings running around, with no context! The best part of GH was that everyone had a part to play, and each character had some depth. These Execs have forgot that you need to weave the characters and story, build it slowly. You kill off all the characters (or simply remove them from screen), you basically lose your audience. Trust me! The kids are watching UTube, they are not watching GH - so STOP trying to catch them, and maybe try to keep the audience that actually might watch! Oh, and by the way, you cannot keep loyal fans if you don't keep the characters (and the actors), that made them! Big mistake - another in a line of long mistakes. My hope is that the Execs in charge get 'retired' soon.

I have been watching General Hospital for approximately thirty years. Stuart Damon (Alan Quartermaine) is the reason I have watched it for so long. It was always interesting to see how Alan woulddeal with certain scenerios. He is such an accomplished actor. How dare they ax him! And, besides, he and I are the same age. General hospital, you may be axed!

I have watched general hospital for over 30 years, seen people come and go but over the firing of Stuart Damon I am shocked!!! I remember Stuart first coming to gh and adored him as Prince charming in cinderella, and he well always be prince chaming to me. I also watch amc and oltl since they both started, the main fan bass for all these soaps is the older ones who have always stayed with the show and watch every day. not some teenagers who have nothing else to do all summer! the powers have not used the vets in along time thats their fault, veiwers ache to see them in story. Julia Barr, Vincent I, now Stuart Damon!! Who's next Susan Lucci? Anthony G ? Well this is where I draw the line. The disrespect the powers show to these wonderful actors and vets and to the fans that kepted them on all these years. I too well no longer be watching!! Their are alot of the newer characters I don't like or don't care for as much I would rather see go, like that stupid spinelli, ted king , Jane Elliot, etc. Their are some people in soaps you just don't mess with and Stuart is one of them. As much as I love Walt Disney for this I hope you lose your a@# !!!! As for to you Stuart/Alan I will greive tremendously, and am so sorry for the way you are being treated and dismissed I will miss you prince charming. My heart and prayers go out to you, good luck and hope to see you somewhere. and I hope they are smart enough to change their minds and keep you and use you.

I am only 25 but I can remember running to the tv when I was like 4 or 5 to watch GH when I heard the music and I think it is awful how they treat their long time cast members. they have been doing this for years though. They put Anna Lee on recurring status and didn't renew her contract. Look at the characters of Monica, Leslie, and Bobby. We never see them. I won't quit watching, but I will miss the character.

I think it is terrible that General Hospital is firing such a great actor. I love watching Stuart Damon and hate to see him go. I hope they reconsider because he is a real asset to General Hospital. I saw him in person several years ago at Del Amo Mall in Torrance and it was a real pleasure to see him. I will really miss seeing him everyday.
