A lot of people have been asking what is to become of Day Break now that ABC has pulled it from the air. The word was that the remaining episodes were to be shown on the network's video site. If you were wondering why ABC hasn't made good on putting the new Day Break episodes up yet, TV Guide has an answer. But be warned, it's a pretty stupid one. According to an ABC rep, there are "unforeseen music clearance issues." As John McEnroe would say, "You cannot be serious." I could understand the holdup with something like the WKRP DVD set because of music clearance issues. When Johnny and Venus were spinning records, nobody had dreamed of what the home video market would become. But given the fact that ABC has been putting a whole mess of their shows, including Day Break, online, how were these issues unforeseen? That's like your car breaking down because of unforeseen cars burn gas issues.
I have no idea what ABC is doing at this point. If the best they have to offer instead of Day Break is repeats of According to Jim and George Lopez, what's the point? The slight gain in ratings still landed them in fourth place, and isn't worth the ill will they are garnering from viewers.

I've had 3 "Day Break" episodes sitting on my TiVo for a few weeks, while I debated whether it was worth my time to watch them. I liked the first couple of episodes. But I liked "Kidnapped", too, and I ended up not watching the last broadcast shows of that because I just knew, after it was pulled from the air, I wasn't going to bother trying to watch entire episodes online.
BUT, I did watch one of the "Day Break"s last night, and again, I enjoyed it. By the end, I was thinking "Maybe this is the show that would get me to watch it online..." Now I find out that ABC seems to be reneging on THAT, as well, after it reneged on airing this limited series in the first place.
WHY BOTHER????? That's the new motto for me with the major networks and new shows...WHY BOTHER? They will NEVER follow through. EVER.

I've been visiting abc.com every day to see if it's been posted. Thanks for the update.
This is an incredible shame, because it's a good show that deserved to find an audience. I've watched this one online since the beginning, and it's really got me interested to know what's going on. Shows can find an audience if you give them enough time. Maybe ABC is hoping to make According to Jim a big hit by giving it more to time to shine, to find an audience?
I'm so glad NBC is returning to the days when it would nurture a show. Shame about Kidnapped, but at least Studio 60 is still on. I will watch FNL online over the break to see if it's something I like.

I REALLY LIKED THE SHOW AND WATCHED IT FROM THE BEGINNG. I NEVER UNDERSTOOD TAKING OFF A FRESH SHOW AND SUBSTITUTING WITH OLD BAD ONES.

I think this is the real reason serials are doing so bad. Nobody wants to get into a show that could be canceled and leave them hanging. Even people who want to watch the show think, "I'll catch it on DVD where I know I will have the whole thing."
I mean how many people who watched Reunion (one of the first of serials to get canceled [once they restarted again - obviously]) and were left hanging jumped gung ho into the next serial?

I'm very annoyed that they've canned the show. When I went to the website to check if they have the newest episode of Day break out, they nicely informed me that "only viewers in the US are allowed to watch the web episodes." WTF? Apparantly web episodes are too good for non Americans. We still buy tons of their crap, the least they can do is let us see the web episodes if they're supposed to be "available to EVERYONE".

Yeah i got burned by Reunion. While it wasn't an awesome show i was still bummed to not see who killed Sam!
But yeah, Serials is what i love to watch. I can't stand reality shows or procedurals. And even though i get burned 80% of the time every season i still watch as many serials as i can because i love them!
Pisses me off even more that Canadians can't watch remaining episodes of cancelled shows online. Stupid selfish americans networks! I think that's one of the dumbest things i've ever seen! We're not freaking Russia we're your freaking neighbours for god's sake!
Oh well. I guess i'll buy the DVD if it ever comes out. *crosses fingers*

What pisses me off more than anything is that it has an ending. It's not like it's being cancelled while they still have episodes to shoot in the season. They're done and ready to go, and I want to see them! Christ, why don't they just put them on a Friday or some other throwaway night and burn them off that way?

I liked this show from day 1 (the first day 1). Someone mentioned above that reruns of George Lopez and According to Jim bought ABC an increase in viewership? I find that difficult to believe on so many levels. I'd rather see the remaining episodes online than not at all, but I wonder if I'll ever get the chance?

I liked DayBreak a lot. Granted it wasn't the most unique premise (living the same day over and over again), but the storyline was engaging enough to keep me tuning in week after week. Like the previous poster said, why don't they just air the remaining episodes on a low rating night. Or maybe re-air the series in the summer instead of repeats of Lost. Heck, they'd have nothing to lose then anyway. ABC needs to start supporting its new shows instead of hoping to catch lighting in a bottle like they did with Lost. Those types of programs don't come around in a while.

Steve, ABC did see a small gain in the numbers with Jim and George, believe it or not. It was about 1 million more viewers and half a point in the 18-49 demo.

I'm also a frustrated Canadian... but I'm going to come to the defense of ABC. I'm sure (but not positive) that the problem is more likely due to the restrictions imposed by the CRTC when they license these shows to Canadian TV providers. Perhaps when a Canadian provider buys the TV rights, those rights also include any webcasts. Therefore ABC has to block us in order not to violate the agreement. I may be wrong... but it's probably somewhere near the truth.

ABC promised that they would run this one to the end and all the clues would be solved. So between pulling The Nine and this show why should I ever trust ABC again? Ever! They would of been better off renewing Invasion which had a hard core following. This network is looking for the next Grey's Anatomy so if it's not a hugh Nielsen hit from the start you might as well forget about it. Watch ABC screw up LOST next.

Daybreak did get a lot of viewers when it first aired, the problem was that it lost almost half of viewers in it's very first airing. By the time the two hour pilot ended, it had lost around 40% of viewers. And then it continued to lose viewers each subsequent episode. Any studio looking at that would realize that there's no way that the show is going to gain viewers again, not when it's a show that you can't really miss a couple of episodes. This isn't Firefly where Fox didn't give it a chance. There was little reason to believe that the show was going to gain ratings. And so it was cancelled.
Now I really enjoyed Daybeak, and I'm upset it was cancelled, but I think people are being unfair to ABC. I've often been first in line to blast networks for cancelling shows (Most of the time directed at Fox). But in this case I have to sympathize with ABC. They were losing to the CW for crying out loud!

Maybe it'll at least help get the show out on DVD!

The problem is a lot of us record and watch at a later time. I watched the first two and have recorded the last ones. Now I find out that I will be unable to watch the whole series. ABC and all of the Networks need to realize that in this age, our lives are so busy that we do not sit down and watch a show at the time it aires. I usually watch recorded show all day long on a day that I have off or late at night. Its upsetting to get involved in a plot line and have it just disappear into the land of "series limbo." Its like reading a really good book and when you go back to it, somebody has pulled out all the remaining pages. I"m going to quit watching TV completely and just rent the CD's in full when they come out at the local Video store.

Folks, I have been flying around the net reading what seems like EVERYONE complain about Day Break being pulled....(first "Invasion" now this).... but I think what bugs me more than anything, and I have not seen anyone mention this yet, is the ultimate lack of control we have and how we are totally in the hands of someone, I don't know WHO, but someone who decided to pull the show without any repersussion to them. Maybe it was a calaboration or a few knuckleheads at ABC...the thing that bugs me the most is this: we can complain and mona all we want but in the end, it makes no difference....and that really pisses me off....how can any viewer EVER trust the network again to start watching any new show????

Does anyone know how to get our comments to ABC. I've been looking for a place to call because the email I sent them bounced back. Maybe if we blitzed them with complaints they'd get the message that it's bad for business to piss off the viewers like this.
