Ah Festivus, it's a magical time of the year. Hurricanes, week long power outages, how can you not be in the mood to celebrate? While my real world desires would lean more toward the practical, like a generator, so the next time 5000 trees get thrown on the power lines I don't have to miss Las Vegas, Dr. Who and South of Nowhere, these are some of my TV universe wishes for the coming year.

TV on DVD - Every week I read Bob's list of the new DVD releases, and every week I have the same reaction. How can THAT be coming out on DVD but none of my top 5 most wanted are? Seriously, there is more of a market for the Stacked DVD than any of these? I'm not greedy. I'll settle for just one of these shows to finally get the DVD set it deserves. Cupid, Beggars and Choosers, Going To California, Maximum Bob, or Mr & Mrs Smith.

5 million more viewers for Friday Night Lights - It doesn't need to do crazy Grey's numbers. It doesn't even need to make the top 20. Just a nice 9 to 10 million viewers that will get us into a season two. It is my favorite new show, and if you haven't seen it, I recommend you check it out, but at this point the numbers are so bad that I'm surprised each week that it hasn't been pulled. I wouldn't complain about an Emmy nomination for Kyle Chandler either.

One codec to rule them all - I don't care which one it ends up being. Quicktime, DivX, Theora, even WMV. As long as the thing just works for everyone. And by everyone I mean no matter what browser, portable, or operating system they choose to use. Get everybody involved in a room with the UBS guy and make them stay there until we can find some kind of a standard. The way things are now, it's getting a little ridiculous.

Showtime to surpass HBO - I've long been of the opinion that HBO gets more credit than they deserve while some great work at Showtime is ignored. It's not TV, it's HBO? Bite me. HBO made Mind of the Married Man, The Comeback, Unscripted, and Lucky Louie. They are just as capable as any other network at turning out crap. Hopefully, now that Sex and the City is gone, and Deadwood and The Sopranos are on their way out the door, the success of Weeds and Dexter will get people to start taking Showtime seriously. And then those people will demand DVDs of Going To California and Beggars and Choosers. Maybe even some Chris Isaak Show too.

Steven Spielberg presents: Neil Stephenson's Snowcrash - I don't actually care whether Spielberg really has any artistic involvement in the project. I just figure that putting his name on it will help convince SciFi to cough up the fat cash to do this 20 episode mini right. Snowcrash is my most favorite of books, and it is the one piece of fiction I would like to see adapted for the screen more than any other. While it would be great for Mr. Neal Stephenson's work to get the royal treatment as a big Brian Singer helmed summer blockbuster, one movie just wouldn't even begin to cover all the things going on in the book. An extended mini, like Spielberg's Taken, would be the best way to go.

Mainstream Venture Bros. - I know Anna just reported that King of the Hill is getting moved into the Fox Sunday 8-10 animation block, but in my Festivus fueled world, that wouldn't be the case. Kick Hank Hill and the gang back to the 7 o'clock hour and buy into the Venture Bros. game. It would actually work out well for both networks I think. While [adult swim] has had its successes, they are still looking for that one breakout hit. With the extra funding, more time, and a bigger audience Team Venture could be it.

That Perfect 10 Model Boxing DVD - Because nothing says Happy Holidays like watching pretty girls box.
