"Now you can watch "Dick in a Box" wherever you go!"That's the tagline I wish Cingular would use to promote its new line of media offerings from Saturday Night Live. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that "Saturday Night Live Mobile" was rolled out to Cingular customers yesterday. But this isn't just some network-arranged deal that will simply repackage clips to be seen on cell phones; Lorne Michaels' Broadway Video company collaborated with NBC Universal and Cingular to put together a media package that consists of 100 video shorts (with the network-ready version of the aforementioned Digital Short from last week's episode), ringtones, and clips created especially for mobile phones.
It might be an interesting collaboration, since they will put clips up from each new episode the day after it airs. I can imagine someone out there answering their phone to the line "Jane, you ignorant slut," or even the Narnia rap from "Lazy Sunday". What it also means is that Andy Samberg and his Lonely Island buddies better start cranking out more Digital Shorts, because Cingular's gonna need 'em.
