I've been amazed at the attention this whole Miss USA story is getting. It just proves once again how disgusting the gossip TV shows are, and how lame cable news is.
First off, the press conference that she held with Donald Trump (owner of the pageant) was broadcast live as BREAKING NEWS on the cable networks. At first I thought the Donald had used his hair to sled down Mt. Hood and rescue those guys, but that's another breaking news story. No, this news conference was to announce that...um, hot blonde chicks sometimes drink a lot and dance and party in New York City and do drugs. But she's sorry! And she thanks God for helping her! But mostly she thanks Donald Trump for letting her keep her crown. (Side note: can someone please tell me why Trump is always yelling? Whether it's this press conference or those PSAs for families he does on NBC, he's always yelling. He does know there's a microphone in front of him, right?)
The coverage has been insipid and inane. Did anyone even give a shit about the Miss USA Pageant before this? Seriously, the Miss USA Pageant? That's the one that's like Miss America, only it's...not. I mean, who cares? I know, you're going to say "Bob, you don't understand the flyover country! Pageants are a tradition!" Well, I think "flyover country" is a lot smarter than this. Does anyone even know the theme song to Miss USA? Do they even have one? "There she is, Miss USA, drunk on her ass..."
One of the more sickening aspects of this whole story is how they'll list her offenses: underage drinking, cocaine use, and kissing another girl. Um, are those the same thing? Personally, I think who she kisses is not some scandal. In the real world it's called "being a young woman who's had too much to drink."
So now Trump says she's going to rehab (the go-to place for not getting off booze and drugs but to rehab your reputation) and she's going to get a "second chance." Oh, and please watch the new season of The Apprentice, coming in January on NBC!

I read a short blurb about it yesterday. I was kinda hoping she would get canned and Larry Flynt would be her new boss. As for the Breaking News thing: I want that phrase banned, it's stupid. I've already blocked all the cable news channels on the satellite box a year ago, everybody should.

Man, you sure seem to have some issues regarding entertainment news.
Why not lighten up on what constitutes news. I mean, look at YOUR headlines from the last few weeks.
Your indignation reads a bit hollow to me, and adding more invective to an already mediocre medium comes off as a tad hypocritical, no?
let the infotainment outlets do their thing, and you do yours...er...if there's a difference.

.Annd another thing. You wrote..."At first I thought the Donald had used his hair to sled down Mt. Hood and rescue those guys, but that's another breaking news story".
I cannot think of a more gratuitous, insensitive and ghoulish thing than to use a tragedy to further your disproportionate tirade.
People DIED on that mountain, and your joke about Trump's hair was stupid anyway.
Does anyone actually preview your writing before posting it? It was apparently posted near midnight, so maybe someone should give it a once-over before commiting it to the ether.
Beyond tasteless and devoid of class...hypocritical indeed.

Miss USA should have been fired...Vanessa Williams was fired for something she did before becoming Miss USA and Tara did it while being Miss USA...I guess if you want to screw up you could do while your MIss USA and and when all that will happen is a little clap on the hand .......I sure dont want her as a role model for my neice or any other young girl .....Shame on you Mr Trump for not doing your job

I think it's wrong for trump to let her keep her crown. If it was anyone else who wasn't a pretty little ditzy blonde they would've got fired. The runner up is a pretty black girl.(I wonder if that's why he didn't fire Tara)...hmmm i don't like trump anyway he'll do anything for attention and the publicity

I'm amazed that you actually found this time appropriate to make a joke about Mt. Hood just a couple of sentences after calling gossip sites disgusting and cable news lame.

Miss U.S.A.? When was that held? I didn't even know that it still existed.
I thought these pageants had hit rock bottom when I happened to see the Miss America pageant on the Country Music Channel. Who even knew Miss USA's name. What was last year's winner's name?
Miss USA is outdated, useless and pointless... unless MY daughter wins. Then it's the greatest pageant in history.

I feel that Miss America should have been let go. She is suppose to be a rule model for all of our young people.
Well, she showed them that its okay to do the things, that we work so hard to teach our children not to do, what kind of role model is she????
I know that my 16 year old daughter is very disappointed in her and the Mr. Trump.

She should have been let go!! What kind of role model is she? Tara knew what she was getting into and that younger girls look up to her...so what does she do? Shows the younger ones to go out and be stupid. The next day when you get caught and into trouble to act sorry and everything will be okay. Whatever!!! Trump made an awful, stupid, and irresponsible decision.

Vanessa Williams got canned from Miss America, which is a different organization. The comparison's still a decent one, but it's not necessarily anyone having a double standard or anything.
"I guess if you want to screw up you could do while your MIss USA and and when all that will happen is a little clap on the hand ....."
You can get that on the hand?

I got home yesterday around three pm eastern time thinking I can see how Bush can screw up today. It was an hour long special of this bullshit! No one cares! I don't know of a single girl who looks up to Miss America. Miss America is lame, and this whole news story is lame. Can we get back to worrying about North Korea and Iran trying to nuke us, or is that not important anymore?

I agree with comment #12 - Who cares. It is not even newsworhty in my opinion. An hour long conference over this? We Americans need to get our priorities straight, and who will or won't continue to be Miss America is the least of our worries. I wish I had the capability to turn my tears on and off whenever the situation warranted it!!! She will screw up again and old Donald will probably give her another chance.

Who cares about Miss America? The contest itself is so outdated and preposterous. There are millions of women out there now with fake boobs, reconditioned teeth, perfect nose jobs, and a bunch of pre-programmed mindless babble in their heads thanks to the media and Hollywood that any presupposition that this contest has a remote connection to events of daily living is absurd!
Why don't we finally have a contest that other people can select the contestants based on their intelligence, kindness, and what they do for others to better society? Fat chance! At least the Miss America contestants aren't a bunch of girls driven to anorexia by their desire to be "in." This society needs a reality check so badly!!!

Just ONE more reason for the state of Kentucky to look bad. I do not want my child to look up to someone like Tara. We need role models. It's bad enough that Hollywood has turned into a drug infested hole. If our children can't look up to actors or Miss USA, who's left? I think she needed more than just a slap on the wrist. Make an example out of her! This just lets the future contestants think "Well she got away with it, so will I."

Someone tell me this WASN'T an episode of THE APPRENTICE, okay? It certainly has all the hallmarks, that's for sure.
The team's mission: increase public awareness of the Miss USA pageant.
Well, we saw the results and I have to admit that it worked. The public now cares about the pageant as well as the woman behind the crown.
I'll be the first to say it: Trump knew about this from the beginning.

I think the publicity and media coverageon this topic has been insane...who really cares about another drunk, misbehaving party girl. Isn't there more than enough coverage with that sick little girl Paris Hilton, follower Britney and Lindsey Lohan...?...There is so much more important news going on in this world that should take precedence over this dribble. This Tara Connor should have been let go, she is a terrible role model for young girls and for the so called beauty pageant. Donald Trump only "saved" her to help the rating on his flailing show The Apprentice...who is he kidding! Disgusting trash.

People, Miss USA and Miss America are not the same person. Some are using the titles interchangeably.
Tara Conner is Miss USA 2006
Jennifer Berry is Miss America 2006
In any event this subject is receiving much too much press. If Connor has an addiction problem, it's very noble of Mr. Trump to provide her assistance in time of need. That's all we need to know about this.
