(S04E15) Not bad at all. No bells. No whistles. One semi-unexpected moment, but overall -- a very satisfying finale. The way it was structured, if you think about it, this actually could have served as the series finale if it needed to be. We had the look into the future a few weeks ago and this episode essentially closed the book on the Miami era of McNamara/Troy. It could have ended there, but thankfully, Ryan Murphy and Co. have decided to tell another chapter from the west coast. This was a season that made it a point to wrap up lingering stories. The official end of Sean and Julia, the death of Mrs. Grubman, the return and reconciliation of Bobolit, and the redemption of Matt were all issues that were addressed and resolved this season. Now as I said, this episode easily could have served as the series finale especially because it wrapped up the biggest storyline yet: Escobar Gallardo.
He's been a thorn in the side of the McNamara/Troy practice since the pilot episode. His death comes as no surprise. The fact that his wife shot him was a bit of a shock though. I had a feeling it was coming since Escobar treated Gala like complete crap and once Liz pulled out a gun (anyone else see Escobar's eyes tear up?) in the recovery room, it wasn't a question of when he would be shot but rather who would pull the trigger.
What I loved about this episode was how it continually referred to the first season. The fact that Antonia Ramos was semi-responsible for Gala's beating to the smart (and hilarious) choice to dispose of Escobar's body the same way Sean and Christian had done with Silvio a number of years ago. Some spiral hams. Some twine. And some gators.
As we wait now for season five (next fall... please?), new questions have emerged. Will Matt and Kimber weather the storm of their loveless marriage? What about the future of McNamara/Troy in LA? They may have been number one in Miami but now they're just a dime-a-dozen. I will say that I was surprised Christian left Michelle. But at the same time, I like how his character has grown. He knew he couldn't trust her and she bought him out because telling the truth just wasn't in her power. I think he knew she was involved with the organ thievery, that it was more than just knowing what James did. He would have been fine with it but Christian needed to hear it from Michelle's mouth.
How cool was that final montage set to The Submarines, "Brighter Discontent?" The choice to have every character lip-synching along was very cool, but not having Julia around for even one line seemed a little out of place. The final shot in front of the Hollywood sign was a little cheesy, but obligatory considering the circumstances. I'm looking forward to what comes next. It'll be great to see what new stories can develop along with the change of scenery. Whatever it is, you know it'll be good. I say that knowing full well that it will be. This show has earned that confidence.

I tuned in to watch the repeat at 11pm, I flipped it on about 11:05, and proceeded to watch the end of the 10 pm episode!!
Why the hell didn't FX bill this as the 70 minute season finale!

How did live Escobar and dead Escobar get in and out of the building? I thought it was under surveillance?

They surveillance was gone. There was a mention of how Michelle cancelled all of that.

First I hated the musical montage. Why throw a 3 minute lip-syncing music video in the middle of a season finale?
Throughout this episode I had the feeling that Christian was going to kill Michelle. I don't know why, but the feeling built through the show. I really expected to see he dead in the office or something at the end.
The hollywood sign shot was beyond cheesy, where did they find the awful white sunglasses Christian was wearing?

Good summary. Nice work.
This could have been a disappointing season finale, but the real purpose of it was to end and tie-up all the loose ends, which it did.
I'm looking forward to McNamara/Troy in LA. It think it COULD BE fresh, and God knows there will be plenty of business.

Phew, I finally feel like Nip/Tuck is back to form. This season, while going a bit overboard with guest stars, really felt like the original, and it was nice to see everything turn out well. I'm ecstatic that Michelle is gone, as she was at best a mediocre soap actress, and that the lingering storyline with Escobar is done with.
When I think about it, the upcoming season could potentially be the best one yet. With not a lot of Julia, it will mean we won't be subjected to her hysterics, and we can see the guys be real guys. LA will be interesting to see, as Miami has grown dull (just in Nip/Tuck though, as Dexter more than makes up for it), as will the chance to see Sean and Christian have to fight a bit for business.
After the severely disappointing third season, I know finally feel like Ryan Murphy has won back my trust.
That and how it was mentioned in the article that *SPOILER ALERT* Matt moves to LA and goes to medical school (I assume divorcing Kimber at the same time) will keep that interesting, and it will be nice to see Matt get some more attention, as personally the show shines when he gets his due screentime.
Favorite moment: the "cleanup" of Escobar. I was laughing when I saw them go to the store to buy hams.

Okay, the last couple episodes have been a very rushy ending to the otherwise well-paced season.
why bother having FBI surveillance when it never played out any role?
why having Michelle around for the entire season when her breakup with Christian happened off-screen?
And what was the build up to have McNamara/Troy relocating to Hollywood? Didnt Sean realize that he would always be in Christian's shadow from last week's puppy show and that's why he decided to move? After seeing that god awful shot of them by the Hollywood sign I started to wonder maybe the entire time Sean was in love with Christian because all he was upsetting about Miami's practice was the introduction of Michelle into Christian's life!
The music montage would have been fine if it was cut in half. what was the purpose of it anyway? was it to show us that Christian and Michelle just didn't work out? So basing on that montage, are we suppose to think Matt and Kimber worked out because at least they turn and face each other on the bed where Christian and Michelle didn't? this whole season, the Matt and Kimber plot has been such a fiasco that they didn't even offer any concrete conclusion to it.
So, basically, back to square one for the Nip/Tuck universe. After ending the season the same way the series started.
I'm not exactly convince that relocating from Florida to California would make any difference for the series.
it would be much better if the season ended with Sean in LA and Christian/Michelle in Miami. then next season, show us how Christian and Sean just didn't do well spending time apart, then bring them back together.
Ryan Murphy and co. need to spend much more time on planing season 5 and not just gone crazy with having numerous "special guest stars" popping out scene after scene and the extravagant plots that gone nowhere then didn't pay off in the end.

I was mildly satisfied with the finale. I was pretty sure going into this episode that it was filmed as a possible "series" finale since next season was not a definite at the time of filming this finale.
That changed the atmosphere of the episode.
Once next season became official, do you think the extra few minutes of footage (Sean in LA and CHristian meets him there) was filmed after the fact? Maybe that is why the two of them in LA together was added at the end. Perhaps the writers were satisfied with Christian ending up with Wilbur and Michelle in Miami and Sean to find himself in LA. Then once the next season became definite, they filmed some extra footage with Sean & CHristian in LA to open up the storyline for next season??
I also felt that they padded this airing with and extra amount of commercial ads. :( Especially Dylan/Julian pimping the Bailey's products over and over.
I also thought I heard the actress who plays Michelle was signed on for next season? I agree, she is not the best actress to grace the cast of the show, let alone a regular member.
This episode lacked two things: Julia update (and the other two McNamara kids) and more Brooke Shields.

I only caught the first half hour, but plan to watch the rest Friday. However, I don't mind spoilers. What happened to Wilbur? Did he move to LA with Christian?
Thanks!

I'd be more impressed if they weren't just blatantly ripping off MAGNOLIA.

I thought the final montage was a waste of 4 minutes, Filler.
Brian (#9) makes an interesting point that the LA stuff with Christian and Sean seems like an afterthought and was possibly filmed after Nip/Tuck was picked-up for a 5th season.
I liked Michelle initially because she is very sexy, but the actress overplayed it (or perhaps it was written that way)

i thought the finale as not bad. Altho, Matt's realization about Kimber seemed kinda fast.
I hope they bring Liz and I hope that it doesn't turn out to be like Laverne and Shirley move to LA.

The singing thing was lame, too long and akwardly placed. Great song though.
The Hollywood Sign thing - I noticed the god awful sunglasses too. Like a bad hybrid of Willy Wonka's glasses (Johnny Depp version) and Oakley wrap arounds. Terrible. And, um, normal everyday people can't go to the Hollywood sign to frolic. It's closed off. I was jealous.
I am glad that Matt and Sean have seemed to reconciled. The scene with the money gift for the kid's or Matt's education was great. Both characters were mature, sane, and sincere. Sean didn't pressure Matt to leave the church, go back to school, just to be honest about what is marriage is. And Kimber was human and heart-breaking. By far, my favorite part of the episode.
I hope Kimber stays on and moves to LA. Either to be present at the Scientology mothership of the Celebrity Center or to be the porn princess of the Valley. Kimber must come back.
LA will provide the opportunity to bring on a whole lot more cameos. And then they could do a Marilyn Monroe-esque like character of a young starlet who undergoes plastic surgery, becomes hugely famous, and then dies tragically, possibly due to her inability to connect with her new persona and accept the fame handed to her. Morality of beauty and fame, and all that jazz.
Oooh, and maybe they could do a musical. Those are always fun.

I was stunned when Escobar got capped. I seriously thought Liz was going to do it.. hell, that tear rolling down Escobar's face was priceless. Even he thought she was going to do it. For once in his life, he was actually SCARED. Afraid. And then... all appeared to be okay.
BAM! His wife caps him in the freakin' head. I fell out of my chair. That was nuts. That was big. That was much bigger than the Carver for long-time fans.
And now that the series is moving to LA for a fresh start.. it's going to be insane. Matt and Kimber will still be part of the picture, I think, but I'm not sure how. Liz... well.. she just might be gone. The stress of her working with these two guys has obviously taken a toll on her and I think she'll want out.
She might show up in one or two episodes though, to visit old friends. But working together? I don't think she can do it anymore.
And Wilbur? Wilbur DEFINITELY will come with Christian. He loves that kid more than anything in the entire world, including himself, and that says a lot.
God I can't wait for next year!

Totally expected his wife to shoot him. She was talking about how she stays with them because she fears for her children, etc...and you could tell she just hated the guy. And Liz is incapable of shooting someone in cold blood.
I wonder why Wilbur wasn't mentioned at all. Most parents would say something like "Wilbur and I moved" or something...but Christian was all about him moving to Cali.

I thought the episode is great...but lip syncing montage was too long...We got the point that everyone grown alot this season. It really felt like series would've ended...just relocated to LA which I thought is great. Final scene was kinda chessy but I liked it and I like whole season. I have the feeling everyone moving to LA now, and everyone just starting fresh just like any other season. I loved how Sean and Christian grew out themselves becoming more human than ever. Ryan Murphy is awesome! I can't wait for Season 5!!!

I loved Gala! I can't wait for her return, which I am sure is inevitable. The actress who played her is Idalis. She used to be a VJ on MTV 10 or more years ago. Anybody remember her but me?
