One of our regular readers, Mack Swift, sent us an interesting tip yesterday:As he was cruising through IMDb, he found this listing for the much anticipated direct-to-DVD Futurama movie. According to the listing, the movie is going to be called Futurama: Bender's Big Score, and is tentatively coming out around Christmas 2007. Here's what the listing says the plot is going to be: "Planet Express sees a hostile takeover and Bender falls into the hands of criminals where he is used to fulfill their schemes." The movie is in post-production , with voice recording completed.
Now, all this information comes with the caveat that IMDb, while good, always has changing information. So take what I just gave you with whatever appropriate skepticism that you apply to IMDb stuff. But, if this is correct, it'll be a nice way for fans to get their Futurama fix before the show starts new episodes on Comedy Central in 2008.

I thought I'd heard that there were going to be four direct-to-DVD movies and that Comedy Central had ordered twelve episodes. So why do I get the feeling that the Comedy Central episodes will be the DVD "movies" chopped up into three thirty minute episdoes each, like Family Guy did with thier direct-to-DVD movie "Stewie Griffin-The Untold Story"?

As far as I know, the new episodes on Comedy Central are just the movie chopped up into 3 or 4 episodes. This may have changed, but last I checked, this was it.

No, there were 4 DVD movies. They came out and said that they were making four DVD movies AND then 13 (at least) episodes for Comedy Central. Th whole point for the movies was because they have stories they can't do in 22 minutes (listen to the commentaries and they discuss this a lot). So there would be no point in making 4 movies and just breaking them up. Plus breaking "movies" up is lame, just look at Family Guy, which is also quite lame.

I thought I would add some more bits of info. This time from Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Futurama
The first movie, currently under the working title Futurama: Bender's Big Score, is in production. The film is written by Ken Keeler and David X. Cohen, and will include return appearances by the Nibblonians, Seymour, Barbados Slim, Morbo, Robot Santa, the "God" space entity, Al Gore, and Zapp Brannigan. In an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Al Gore confirmed that he would appear in the movie, playing his disembodied head.
