A third season of Ricky Gervais' Extras is in the works. This is good news for Gervais fans as the show was rumored to be getting a self-imposed axe after season two a la The Office. But, Gervais is back, and he's got a dilly of guest-star wish list. For season three, he's looking to snag Meryl Streep, Bruce Willis, Dick van Dyke, Mickey Rooney and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Considering that the show has managed to score Ben Stiller, Kate Winslet, Samuel L. Jackson, David Bowie, Orlando Bloom and David Bowie in the past, Gervais shouldn't have any trouble. My personal fave was the episode with Daniel Radcliffe and Diana Rigg. Seeing Harry Potter send a "johnny" flying into Dame Rigg's hair is worth the price of premium cable. And, as far as celebrities taking themselves down a peg, going on Gervais' Extras seems a far better tactic than hosting SNL or waiting around to screw-up and then make a public apology on The Tonight Show. At least with Gervais, you know that you'll actually come off as funny.

Maybe he can get Stiller to convince Van Dyke and Rooney to do the show, since those three are working together in the upcoming movie "Night at the Museum". I'd love to see what Gervais has in mind for poking fun at their public personas. The actors who have appeared so far seem to really enjoy the chance to deflate their image, no matter how uncomfortable it gets (like the Les Dennis episode).

It was good, basically from episode 2 of the first season to around the middle of the second season. End of second season was awful, it's difficult to cringe when everything's so over the top wacky. Just turns dumb.
Stiller is still the worst extra so far, everyone else was good enough to pretend it wasn't all a big gag. And the best-- easily Patrick Stewart. The joy on his face as he imagined women's clothes just dropping off, I had really high hopes for the show at that point.
But with Simpsons under his belt and a cast of hilarious Hollywood stars clamoring to get on board, the third season is sure to be the very closest to When The Whistle Blows yet. Hopefully there's even more Stephen Merchant too, with a double-helping of masturbation and toilet sight gags.

Steve: It ran on the BBC in the fall, I think HBO starts showing it in January.
