Lifting its name from a Green Day song, the E! network is launching a series called Boulevard of Broken Dreams. Much like its True Hollywood Story, this series is about the rise and fall of Hollywood stars. Many of the subjects chosen for the series are dead, while others have just plain screwed up their lives after becoming famous.Here's a list of the stars to be featured. Which one of these things is not like the others?
- Chris Penn, deceased brother of Sean Penn;
- Krissy Taylor, deceased sister of model Niki Taylor;
- Mitch Hedberg, deceased comedian;
- Leif Garrett, former teen idol and current joke;
- Lauryn Hill, singer who... WTF?
I suppose former Fugees singer Lauryn Hill is included on the list for her meltdown on MTV2 Unplugged in 2002 where she told the audience she was "crazy and deranged". Lauryn won a ton of Grammys in 1998 and then sort-of freaked out about her fame. She got the hell away from the record industry, which she said was smothering her. It'll be interesting to see if E! categorizes her story as a "fallen star", because I think she's happy with the choices she has made.
The series debuts January 22 at 10:30 pm.

earliest reference I can find to phrase "boulevard of broken dreams" is the song by the same name written in 1934. The Green Day took the title; Boulevard of broken Dreams, from a painting by Gottfried Helnwein which was a parody of Edward Hopper's Nighthawks.
The phase though is often(At least it used too) in reference to Hollywood Blvd and Hollywood itself.
Blah blah, not green day, blah blah.

If she did the leave the music industry, it was because she burned bridges when making 'Miseducation'. Several folks, including Wyclef (the album's creative force), were pissed with her afterwards.
She never had another hit, since the hitmakers left her alone.

I was under the assumption that Miss Hill had made a comment somewhere along the line that she 'would rather see her children starve than have another white person buy her album.'. I don't know how true this is, but it seems as though it would attempt to counter any understanding and evolution of species that her deceased father in law fought his whole life for...

Lauryn Hill never made those racist comments about white people buying her music. She has said she was raised in a white jewish neighborhood & this rumor was very hurtful to her. She also said she believes our differences is what makes us "dope". She addresses this rumor that was started on Howard Stern's show in a MTV special ( search Lauryn Hill MTV on YOUTUBE)
