Craig Ferguson starts production company

Craig FergusonCraig Ferguson must have been seeing the buckets of money his boss, David Letterman, has been raking in and said, "hey, how do I get a piece of this?"

Why else would he start his own production company? To develop young talent, he told The Hollywood Reporter. In his job, he told the industry trade paper, "You meet everybody. You get to see every actor who is doing stuff, and you get to see the younger comedians on their way up. That is a natural symbiosis." The company, Green Mountain West, has already signed a development deal with CBS Paramount that gives his home network first-look rights at anything he develops.

I'm sure Ferguson's intentions are sincere. And a multi-talented guy like he is will undoubtedly do a good job of spotting and developing new talent. But he also probably sees the success of Letterman's Worldwide Pants -- his show, Everybody Loves Raymond, Dave's show -- and thinks he can generate his own cash, too. Heck, it's a hell of a lot better idea than holding out for more money to the point where the network doesn't renew your contract. Speaking of which, what is Craig Kilborn doing these days...?
