Brace yourself, Deadwood fans. In an interview with ComingSoon.net, Ian McShane reveals that the cast and crew is still waiting for word on whether or not the two Deadwood movies will be made. "Today they say yes, they will be done, but who knows what they'll say tomorrow. I've got a feeling in me that it's not completely dead in some way, but who knows what they could do it?"As you may recall, Deadwood was nixed by HBO because of their supposed enthusiasm for Milch's next project John from Cincinnati. HBO offered Milch six episodes to wrap the series up. He refused, opting instead for two two-hour films that he felt might let him bring the series to a proper close.
McShane sheds a little light on this as well. The way our man Swearengen figures it HBO canceled the series because it was produced by Paramount, which was taking most of the show's back-end profits for itself. Because of the level of freedom Milch and his crew were given, the show was expensive to film and not making HBO a whole lot of cash. McShane chalks up the show's premature end to "some bean counter." I think what he meant to say was "some hoopleheaded cocksucking bean counter."

At least they gave him notice to wrap it up. More than they did for Carnivale!
Which was a way better show by the way

I said it before and I'll say it again...
If Paramount wakes up and renews Deadwood on its SHOWTIME network, Showtime may have more than it's current number of subscribers (roughly half of HBO's base) and maybe they can make a profit to keep the show going.

I loved Deadwood with a passion. It was so great. Carnivale was a little too creepy for me. They say it was axed because of money. You can't tell me that Rome isn't as expensive, or more. I will be dumping HBO. They drag the Sopranos out for too many years. A great show like Deadwood, they toss. Milch, have fun with your new series. I won't be watching.

The only thing disappointing about DEADWOOD is the actual town itself.....went there on vacation last year and stayed maybe two hours and left. The Bullock Hotel was the best part of the entire visit. The series DEADWOOD on HBO though is my favorite show on TV. It keeps you wanting more....I hate to see it end every season and anticipate it's return every season, just hope someone will let Hearst and Cy have it. Swearengen and Bullock is probably my favorite, not to take any credit away from any of the other cast members because they are all wonderful. As far as the language is concerned, it doesn't bother me in the least....you get so involved with what is going on that you get numb to it and do not even realize that it is foul. I think the entire show is BRILLIANT and wish HBO would come to terms with it and realize what a treasure this show is. For me, it's the only thing worth watching on HBO....to bad they can't come up with more of the same. BIG DEADWOOD FAN!!!!!

I think it stinks that HBO is thinking of letting go of "Deadwood", I so enjoyed "Deadwood" I so looked forward to watching it when its on. Twelve weeks in Deadwood is not enough, I can't wait to see what going to happen from week to week with this show. It has a wonderful cast and the show is outstanding. HBO must not be aware of how much we the viewers enjoy it.
"Deadwood" kept me involved week to week, I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen. I so enjoy Ian McShane, Timothy Olphant, Paula Malcomson, Brad Dourif, Kim Dickens and Robin Weigert . Besides the fact that the cast is Great, the story line is solid it's not weak in any way. By the way I did forget Powers Booth. The whole cast is great, I want to see what happens to town of Deadwood now that Hearst has left. If Seth and the widow Garret end up back together? What happens since the elections and what is seth doing? Does Hearts send another reporter to the city of Deadwood? Where does Swearengen and Wu relationship with go? What happen with Trixie and
Sol? Not to mention Calamity Jane and Trixie.
Deadwood has such a mixture of things going on, both my husband and I can watch together. The only other show we ever agreed on watching together was Carnivale, but that was canceled.
Both shows are the best shows HOB ever offer. I hated how "Carnivale" was dropped and the ending was not really the proper ending for the story that was being build up. Now that "Deadwood" is having talks of being pulled, I don't get what HBO is thinking.
The show "Deadwood" just won HOB some Grammy Awards? So the cast and crew get reward for getting HBO the Grammy's by getting dumped? Nice support system HBO?
With the "Sopranos" ending this season, last season was a joke bit out there. I hate "the Wire", it's to hard core, "Rome" is SOooooo Boring, and talk about
expensive, it's got to be costing a pretty penny to make. I can live with or with out "Entorage". "Big Love", I have to say it is a BIG WASTE, "Curb your Enthusiasm" is OK , but not in the same way as
"Deadwood". "Da Ali G Show" please pull it, He is not funny at all. and I do not get "Lucky Louie", why is he so Lucky it's to close to being sad. I forget the show with Lisa Kudro from Friends, I hate it, I can't even stand to watch five minutes. So this leave "Real Time with Bill Maher" and "Def Comedy Jam" and there also OK, but you can't compare them to "Deadwood" or "Carnivale".
I do not understand what the people at HBO are doing. The gave us some really good shows to watch and now they pulled Carnivale and are talking about letting go of Deadwood. Why not dump Rome, The Wire, Big Love, Please let go of Da Ali G Show, let us keep Deadwood.
The only thing HBO had going for it, was the series of Deadwood, since they cut Carnivale. Both Six Feet Under and Sex & The City ran for five years each, why not give Deadwood the same amount of time as a show? You already let go of Carnivale. There will be no reason to keep HBO if you let go of Deadwood. HBO is losing it's cutting edge in it's Series Shows, and the Movies on HBO are not that great, Starz has much
better Movie selections than HBO. So if you let go of Deadwood, I will let go of HBO.
Why pay for a station that not going to listen to what the viewers want to watch. We are the one paying to watch the shows, are we not? Wake up HBO we the viewers still want to watch Deadwood.

Deadwood was probably the best drama ever on tv. It was so rich and detailed and funny and shocking that I ended up watching it twice: the second time to catch all the nuances I missed the first times. Shame on HBO for being so cheap and shortsighted. I thought HBO was supposed to be the network for originality and depth. What a disappointment. I miss my Deadwood.

Here in the UK ,Deadwood season three finished before xmas,06.I cannot believe that the two final tv-movies may not be made. The ending of season three left as many questions,as answers.Shame on HBO,and Paramount for not seeing this through.Yes the show was expensive to make, but it was gritty, entertaining, edge of your seat stuff.Still,if David Miltch became bored, and got fed up with all the company in-fighting,thats it I suppose.

Big movie business types always make these same errors in judgement. Look at the original Star Trek. It ran for three years, still running forty years later, with a huge base of fans new and old. Please don't flame me for the similarities to Trekkies, but I love Deadwood! I think it is intelligently written, the dialogue is the best on TV, as it makes you sit and listen to what is being spoken in that old English Victorian style. The plots make you want to watch the next episode, and I can't say that about todays sitcoms...
Lets have another ten seasons of Deadwood!

I was just going through my DVR shows wondering when Deadwood was coming back on and ran in to this site. I used to have HBO for only one reason and that was Dennis Miller Live, possibly the best thing he may ever have done or will do, except maybe become the next President of the USA. After that was cancelled, I thought of getting rid of HBO and then started watching some of the movies and just ended up keeping it, quite honestly because I just never got around to calling and getting rid of it. I am glad that I did keep it up until now. I can't belive that you don't have enough money to produce this show. Rome doesn't even have to be made. There you go. Problem solved. If HBO takes away Deadwood, the only thing you have left is Bill Maher, and yes he is good enough to pay the monthly fee for, but after that, I'm done. Why would you take away a show from so many viewers that are just getting interested in the plot and characters when most people I know have already decided to get rid of HBO if it is cancelled. The only reason that I would stay with HBO is that I am absoulutely in love with Bill Maher, not literally, but I do love to watch him in action and have for years. You would be insulting your viewers if you think for one moment that we believe that you don't have the money to contuine this show. You have so much money that your own wants outweigh what the public wants. So you go on and make your show about John and Cincinnati, but I will not be watching it, if nothing else, just on principal. I think you are cheating YOUR PAYING customers out of one of the best shows ever put on the air.

There were 3 TV shows that my brain insisted MUST be watched. There are now only 2. Deadwood was the #1 show on my must watch list. It had all the things that make for great television...storyline, realism, great acting, and most of all character development. Ian McShanes' portrayal of Al Swearengen was quite possibly the best work any actor has ever done on television. HBO has erred in judgment once again. It wasn't the first time, and it surely won't be the last. The watchers of Deadwood were loyal and would have stayed HBO subscribers for years to come, and many were so loyal that HBO has already recieved their cancellation requests in response to the shows early demise. I'll live, and life will go on, it will just be a little less entertaining on Sunday evenings not having the Gem Saloon to look in on. I take solace in the fact that FX's The Shield is preparing to air it's new season opener on April 3rd follwed by the new season of Rescue Me. FX trumps HBO...Big Love and Entourage my butt.
