Wow, that might be the oddest sentence I've ever written.
A while back it was reported that NBC was editing out the religious aspects of the Veggie Tales cartoons they were airing on Saturday mornings. But now, Time's James Poniewozik reports that the network has had a change of heart and will actually put the religious themes back into the shows. The Parents Television Council broke the news earlier this week.
Like Poniewozik, I'm not a fan of the PTC (I think some of their ideas are dangerous), but I agree that NBC is doing the right thing here. I mean, I'm not a big fan of editing or censorship, no matter what side of the political or social spectrum you fall on, and I thought it was bizarre when it was revealed that NBC was taking out the religious aspects of the episodes. I've never seen the show, but when they took the religion out, what was left? Was it just a bunch of vegetables running around?

Without the overt religious references, Veggie Tales addressed morality, ethics and "the right thing to do."
With the christian overtones turned back on, it's ham-fisted and archaic--focusing on the self-perpetuating fiction that is the bible instead of amplifying doing right because, well, it's the right thing to do.
Instead of getting into freedom of speech or censorship issues, NBC should have left the cartoon to the fringes of DVD and cable...by putting the religion back in, it's alienating non-christians.

whawha, you ever actually watch Veggie Tales? It's anything but "ham-fisted" and your comments make it clear that you're intolerant about, and liable to attack, anything religion-based.
Religion is infrequently treated with respect on tv these days, especially in prime time, yet you rant about alienating non-christians while the opposite happens all the time. Try a little tolerance since it, too, is the right thing to do.
Chris, I agree with you about watching a little VT every day. Even if you're not a religious person, the silliness of the characters should put a smile on your face and that's never a bad thing!
