Survivor: Cook Islands: Arranging a Hit

(S13E12) This week's episode makes me ponder what is really important in the game. The former Aitu alliance seems iron-clad. They have a plan and they are sticking with it. They have the numbers. And yet, underneath it all, maybe the underdogs, the little team that could, still feels like the uncool kids. How else can I justify their willingness to be swayed by a couple of corn cobs and a few friendly glances from the dim remains of the frat boy tribe?Poor Parvati, the first time she tries to help out she injures herself, chopping her finger with a machete. The medical crew patches her up. And oh, isn't Adam sweet. Not only will he not look at Parvati's finger because it grosses him out, he is worried because she is his main ally.

This weeks reward challenge is the loved one challenge. Weeping all around. Jonathan really is happy to see his wife. It's odd to see Becky actually show emotions when she sees her sister, she's usually so circumspect. And is even Yul tearing up? Aw, Ozzy and his mom. So much with the cuteness! Ditto for Sundra and her mom. The challenge involves the loved ones and tossing water blindfolded. It's not so much fun for the loved ones who end up getting doused with seawater. Jonathan's wife is crafty, she uses her T-shirt to catch water but in the end Parvati and her dad are victorious. She chooses to send Jonathan to Exile Island. Parvati's dad gets to choose who to bring with them on reward and he chooses Sundra and her mom and Adam and his dad.

Ozzy, Yul and Becky comfort themselves imaging that soon the three of them will be in the final three. They also discuss the fact that they provide a lot of the food. They decide to hide the food from Adam and Parvati since they keep winning challenges. When Adam, Parvati and Sundra come back they bring food and so that makes them rethink the plan. It seems like everyone is a lot mellower without Jonathan around.

The immunity challenge involves swimming over barrels which gives everyone an opportunity to get banged up. But whenever the ocean is part of the challenge, Dolphin boy Ozzy is victorious. After the challenge, Jonathan realizes that he is in trouble and tries to solidify his position but Adam is suddenly making a hard sell toward Yul. The thing about Yul is that he always listens to everyone's point of view. Jonathan's version of the hard sell is a bit more of the used car salesman variety. He stresses the things he has done for Yul. I think Jonathan is a decent guy but his aggressive approach doesn't endear anyone to him. So often on reality shows someone knows they are in trouble and instead of just laying low they suddenly become terribly annoying pestering everyone about their fate. It is not a technique that ever works well.

It doesn't take Adam too long to realize he has been saved once the votes are read and Jonathan and Adam trade glances. Adam smiles over at Candice (who mouths 'good job' from her spot on the jury). This has to be the muggingest jury I have ever seen. Voting out Jonathan does not seem like a smart move on Yul's behalf unless it's just a chance to make friends with the jury. I still think his best move would have been to take Jonathan to the final two. Now there is a real chance that Adam or Parvati could get to Ozzy and really cause trouble.
