Vieira's transition to Today "seamless," according to producer

Today CastMeredith Vieira has been on the Today show for almost three months now. And, I don't know what you folks think, but to me it looks like the show has barely skipped a beat. We all knew that Vieira was a pro with an easygoing, self-effacing manner and a good ability to deal with hard news as well as soft subjects. But it seems like, since she replaced Katie Couric, the show has been clicking along without much disruption.

Jim Bell, the show's executive producer, feels the same way, as he told David Bauder of the AP. "It's been too smooth. It's been too good. As great a story as it has been for us, it's just been seamless and that may be why it hasn't drawn as much attention."

Ratings for the show have remained steady since the last two months of Couric's tenure, according to Bauder, while second-place Good Morning America's ratings have fallen. To some, that's a problem, as Vieira's arrival got a lot of attention at first then fell off.

The article goes on to talk to Vieira about how things have been going for her so far, including how she's handling the new early hours, her blog, and how she immediately got thrown in the deep end news-wise. She also mentions that she wants to continue hosting Who Wants to be a Millionaire -- whose ratings have gone up 18% since the new season started -- after her contract runs out next year.

(By the way, here's a good example of why I like Meredith so much: when a reader of her blog asked her how her new job was compared to The View, Meredith said they were two different things. But she closes her anwer with this great line: "The biggest change is working with a man, after being surrounded by four vaginas for nine years.")
