Soul Patrol, you need to get your man in line. In interview after interview, Taylor Hicks has been none too kind to his American Idol masters. Hicks told Relix magazine that he never watched Idol before appearing on it and that the show is "fizzling out" anyway. Hicks had this to say about the Idol-produced hit "Do I Make You Proud," "It's not mine. The song that was given to me first, I got up from a chair and walked right out of the studio. I was handed this song and I was just like, 'No way, you're not going to make me sing this song.'" That song debuted at number one on the Billboard charts, and undoubtedly, made the man some pocket change.Hicks has, of course, said that these quotes were taken out of context. "I'm just now learning about how the media can turn things around." This isn't the first time an American Idol champ has been caught disparaging the show which launched his or her fame. Earlier this year, Kelly Clarkson and judge Simon Cowell had a momentary falling out when Clarkson wouldn't allow her songs to be sung by Idol competitors. Clarkson relented, and Taylor's minor publicity glitch has happened just in time for the release of his self-titled debut album on December 12th.

He's always been a rebel, and that's how he won. He never took the judges advice and NEVER sung according to theme. Country week? He sang like the Doobie Brothers. He always gave the judges a dirty glare whenever they were talking and seemed unimpressed by the whole process.
He's even strongarmed the record company into delaying his CD a few weeks at a time over these past few months, saying that *HE* wants more time, that *HE* has enough experiance and clout to make these kinds of decisions for his album.
Half the reason I voted for Kat and not Taylor was because TayTay came across - to me, anyways - as a huge stinkin' pile of seizure-inducing, penguin-waddling ego.
Not that I'm bitter or anything.

I found the conclusion to your comment about voting against Taylor interesting, because everything you said just made me like him a hell of a lot more. As it is, I don't care him, his music, the show, or anything related to it. But that's just it. I would much sooner support someone who doesn't buy into all that bullshit than the usual bimbo who wants her 5 minutes of fame from her mediocre singing skills, and flaunts her past for sympathy. I don't think Taylor deserves any recognition for his supposed singing skills either, but since the whole things is just crap, it's better that the winner is at least kind of ironic; it's more amusing that way.

What some misconstrue as ego, in reality can lie simply confidence and drive. Also, 'Charles', when one lists a "1." there needs to be a "2.", at the very least. Following the herd and sucking up to obtain success is pathetic. Taylor Hicks does neither and that's why success will instead follow him.
Groove on Soulman.

He sang his new single on Leno the other night and it was good. Not sure where it's going to find airplay because it's not mainstream. Probably Adult Listening is where it will end up. I really like Taylor for alot of the reasons that Charles listed, he wasn't the typical American Idol contestant. I could see myself sitting in a bar listening to him sing all night long. Will he be a big commercial hit, that's the big question.

Your story is wrong. He didn't refuse to sing DIMYP. He refused to sing the first song they gave him. DIMYP is the song he accepted.
Get your facts straight, asshat.

Taylor Hicks is a postive energy in a Industry filled with controversy.
He has never in the least seemed ungrateful to Idol or to anyone.
The media is a pool of barraccuda's, they see something good, and they have to tear it apart with their half truths.
He wasn't trying to make nice, he was trying to fix a screw up by the media period !!
Give us a break, those of us that live in the real world, know that stories are sensationalized to sell copies!
Well don't take the Leader of the "Soul Patrol" out of context.
Because that only serves to prove the media's true colors.
The "Soul Patrol" LOVES and stands behind "Taylor" 110%.
He is a multi talented performer, and a humanitarian.
Love Ya "Tay"

If Taylor Hicks was so "unimpressed by the whole process" why was he on American Idol in the first place? He seemed pretty impressed everytime I saw him with a huge grin on his face everytime Fat Randy, PillPoppin' Paula and SausageBoobs Simon kissed his Bruce Springsteen Wannebe ass.

Never at ANY time did Taylor EVER make remarks deemed as ungrateful to American Idol...for the success he is now enjoying!!! He has ALWAYS expressed his gratitude to AI for what all has happened for him (I know I've heard him say it many, many times!!) And...Taylor has always said(from way on back)that he never really watched American Idol prior to being on the show...he was busy performing whenever and wherever the opportunity arose. He attributes trying out for American Idol as his younger brother, Sean's idea. He just went for it!!! And heck yeah, he did it to further his career...that's the WHOLE PURPOSE of the show...ALL of the people who compete on the show ARE doing it to further their career...There's NOTHING wrong with THAT LINE OF THINKING!!!
He has NEVER said he hated the song AI gave him to sing...but he DID turn down the first song given him...no secret there. Would he have preferred to sing his own music...You're damn right...but, he understood the gig...and he sang the song!
I hate the fact that Taylor feels he must "explain" himself...he shouldn't have to...but, explain himself, he did...and NO, he is NOT "backpeddling" or "trying to make nice, now"...The remarks being published and attributed to him have been SO misconstrued and in some instances HAVE BEEN taken out of context (not an excuse, but truly TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT)...they don't even sound like the ACTUAL remarks he made..
But, the media is, indeed, like a sea of barracudas...who take tremendous delight to tear someone down...someone who did not deserve to be torn down!!!
Taylor is an amazing singer and performer...he has been working VERY HARD for the last ten years at his craft...HE'S NO WANNABE ANYTHING...HE'S A TRULY ORIGINAL, AWESOME TALENT!!!
PLEASE GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!!!

I don't have the magazine handy, but in a recent magazine (People? US Weekly?) Kelly was quoted as saying it was a misunderstanding at that she would love the publicity of the Idol contestants singing her songs on the show. There are two sides to every story and no one will know what really went on but her, the agents and the producers. Everything else is gossip. As for Taylor...the same article did have him saying that he didn't want to sing DIMYP at all, that he walked out of the room when he heard it. (I think this was the issue of People with him on the cover). He said it was a cheesy ballad that he hated, but he sang it because it was required by the show.

The only thing I have to say... is you people don't get YOUR facts straight before you go off blabbing... you cut down the media for doing it and you do it yourself. as PantyCrickets stated.. IT WAS NOT DIMYP that he walked out on. It was another song they presented to him he said no way walked out and then DIMYP was presented and he sang it.. and it did very well for him. so, get your facts straight it makes me nuts when people cut down others and then do the same thing!!
