Okay, so... A few months ago, a bunch of Stephen Colbert fans started modifying footage of Stephen rolling around in front of a green screen, flailing a light saber, to make fun videos. Y'know. Just for kicks. Somehow, the folks over at The Colbert Report caught wind of this and made it into an official Green Screen Challenge. The difference? Capitalization. The Challenge was a big hit... and it seems like indie group The Decemberists are looking to get a little green screen action too, through their new contest, Re-animate The Decemberists, in which fans download footage of the band playing in front of a green screen and create their own video.Colbert called the band out in an episode last week, accusing The Decemberists of riding on his coat-tails. He then instructed the Colbert Nation to enter The Decemberists' contest, but work in his green screen footage from the first Challenge to tear down the band. Oh snap! But wait. There's a second, unexpected snap...
The Decemberists, fans of the show, heard Stephen's cry and have issued two counter-challenges. They've called upon their fans to enter the contest as Stephen instructed, but to depict the band defeating the pundit. They've also started an all-new Decemberists vs. Stephen Colbert Guitar Solo Challenge. Holy crap. They're really asking for it. I wonder what Stephen's going to say about this (if anything) on Monday.
God... This may be the geekiest contest I have heard of in a really long time. I mean, this is an epic battle between political satire nerds and indie rock kids. It's like the clash of the Titans, but with a lot more sweaters and crying.

My geekiness and I are on perfectly good terms. This thrills me. I love the Decemberists ever-so-much, and you simply cannot go wrong with Colbert, either. Plus, marching band ended for me today, and I have to fill my geeky void somehow. But no seriously, this is amazing.

The Decemberists=awesome
The Colbert Report=awesome (I say The Colbert Report and not Stephen Colbert because there are some very amazing writers on his show who deserve just as much credit)
The two combined, well, let's just say I've been refurbishing my Y2K bunker out back for a moment like this.

Wait, thats not how it went. Stephen specifically told people to edit the green screen behind what he was about to do. It wasn't like the Colbert Report found out about it after the fact. They were imitating the Star Wars Kid videos people made.
