(S01E10) Good news! Men in Trees performed well in its new 10 pm slot last night. It retained 51% of Grey's Anatomy's audience. That is an improvement over the show in the former slot, Six Degrees, which only held onto 38% of Grey's audience.
This whole episode was about Marin's discovery that she belongs in Alaska, and not in New York City. While I think we all knew that Marin wasn't going to stay in NYC, I still found her journey captivating/sweet. There were a lot of signs that NYC wasn't the right place for her: the broken showerhead, the loud parties, all the people. I liked how she kept apologizing to people she bumped into on the street. The dove was obviously a metaphor for Marin's predicament: the city has caused her to lose her way. She came to the conclusion that Alaska was the right place for her without having to be told anything by Jack, a small gesture on the part of the writers that helps strengthen Marin's character. When this series began, I liked Marin but now I like her even more. She has become less girly (although the list comparing Elmo to NYC was super girly) and more of an independent person.
Poor Annie's Thanksgiving was heartbreaking. Patrick's focus has switched from her to his new family and Annie has become invisible. I was glad to see the writers didn't wrap up their fight at the end of the episode and the previews for next week look like Annie and Patrick are broken up.
I'm not sure where the Ben/Teresa relationship is going. They both seemed totally done with each other and Ben even found another girlfriend, Sarah. But now Sarah is gone and Teresa remains. Ben feels pity for her because of her past, abusive relationship and doesn't want her to be lonely. Is he really still in love with her? Whatever his deal is, he's super sensitive and easily falls for women. What a teddy bear!
As for Jack, I'm more interested in the new twist: Lynn (Justine Bateman!) is back. She's been gone for four months and, judging from the previews for the next week, there's a chance she's pregnant. That seems logical. Lynn's return to Elmo is going to seriously screw up the romance between Marin and Jack, who just can't seem to catch a break. Wasn't Jack's voicemail message to Marin great? *Sigh*
Great line from Patrick's mom to Jack: "You let Marin leave four days ago because you're a stubborn ass."

I loved this episode. This is the only show on TV that i am obsessing about-and trust me-i watch a whole lot of TV. The thing is -when i started watching-I hated Anne Heche. Now-there is no Anne Heche, there is Marin Frist-and she is adorable. And Jack-although i want them to be together so bad, if they got together now-there would be no show. So I suppose things are going to go pretty sour from here on with Justine Bateman, but every week we will get a chance to see Jack and Marin pining for each other. Love, love, love this show!!!!!!

so she never got Jack's voicemail message? Because they showed her talking to Ben on her cell phone - you'd think she would have gotten the message! He was so cute! I loved the scene between drunk Ben and drunk Jack - stopped being manly Alaskan men for just a second, to admit they loved their respective women...so cute!

Hee hee...I'm not at all surprised at the (~relative) wealth of gals feelin da Ben-love--only that the gay male 'bear' aficionados haven't chimed in yet as well. (In the same way as Susie Bright once termed k.d. lang "a sweet little tomboy femme" on the overall lesbian scale, I've always thought of Mr. Benrubi as a Hollywood-ized pinup boy for the bear contingent.)
Still, though, you know he must HATE the whole "cuddly" and/or "teddy bear" sobriquets by now, and who can really blame him? No guy wants to be tarred with such eminently *safe* epithets, not as long as 'big funky sex machine' exists as an alternative...
Chatter at IMDB seems to indicate that Jerry's Triumphant Return From Imminent Death on ER will prolly be in limited guest shots, so Thursdays at 10 p.m. should prove to be awfully fun for any obsessives without Tivo--happy channel flipping!
Lastly--so who out of my fellow Parker Lewis fans correctly predicted that *Kubiac* would ultimately be the breakout star from that show? Because it sure as heck wasn't me! (Shows what I know.)
