It's no secret that The O.C. is in trouble. It consistently ranks #4 up against tough competition on Thursday nights and it lost its star, Mischa Barton, at the end of last season. Now, Fox has taken the unusual step of launching its own campaign to save The O.C. from cancellation. There's a petition, or 'loyalty oath' on Fox's website. It doesn't directly say that The O.C. is in danger of cancelation, but it does say "not enough people out there have come back to Newport this season" and "good shows deserve to be watched." It asks visitors to sign a 'loyalty oath' that they will ignore all interruptions and watch The O.C. on Thursdays at nine. The whole thing is done a little tongue-in-cheek, but only a little. So far there are more than 71,000 'signatures' but that's probably not nearly enough to 'Save The O.C.', if it really does need saving.[Via PopCandy]

I'd have been nice to see Fox try something like this when Arrested Development was in trouble, rather than relying on the fans to do it (and then ignoring them).

Fox doesn't care, it's just a PR move.
But frankly the show sucks, the first season was a good trip, the trip has ended.

Fox DID do that for Arrested Development. www.getarrested.com had a sign up form virtually identical to the one they now have for The OC.

why don't they try Wed at 9 again -- ABC's Daybreak is tanking and DWTS is gone. It's a show that deserves to be watched. Last Thursday's episode was one of the best ever. It's fun again.

Does Fox produce this series? Because why would they want to save a very bad series that is long past its time. I know Fox doesn't much to be proud of outside of House, 24, and American Idol, but come on this show is garbage. Of course, this is what Fox gets for always catering to the lowest common denominator. A network cannot survive on three hit shows. They need to take more chances in the manner they did when they allowed House and 24 the time to find an audience. Otherwise, they will always be the also-ran network.

Obviously all you naysayers and bashers have never seen the show and have not seen how good it is. There are many shows to call garbage and the OC is not one of them. It's still one of the best written, acted shows on the air.

Funny that they lose the most wooden actress on the show (Barton) and *then* people stop watching.

Its timeslot *is* ridiculous - it's a decent show, and it definitely has a loyal fan base, but it's simply not as good as anything/everything else in that timeslot. I think if they put it after American Idol, they'd retain plenty of viewers. House could be moved almost anywhere and it would stay strong.

Lame show, should have been cancelled years ago. Good riddance to it. If only American Idol could follow the same path.....

Fox is being really stupid. I don't care what anyone thinks the O.C. is the best show out there I haven't missed an episode since the day that it aired. I look forward to it every week that its on. They need to save this show i don't watch a lot of t.v. only the O.C. Because I just haven't been able to get in to anything else because tv sucks anymore.Except for the O.C.

I am so sad. WHen Marissa died, I thought this is the end and why bother watching a show that is bad now anyway .. then I watched one episode from this season .. Josh has really outdone himself . THis is the BEST season yet! I love this season . it is unexpected and seriou .. yet hilarious at the same time. There is no reason to cancel this show. The only reason the ratings are down is because of all the other shows that are on other networks at the same time. If Fox had premiered The OC with the rest of the lineup when they announce FOx Fall .. then there would be no problem .. now what fox needs to do is move the OC to another day .. Wednesday for example. One day earlier in the week .. works for me. PLease don't cancel my favorite show. There is not another show like this with this great of actors and storylines!!
PLease Please PLease ..SAVE THE OC !!
