Nip/Tuck: Reefer

Sean (Dylan Walsh) plays a not-so-jolly old St. Nick.

(S04E13) The spoiler sites weren't kidding when they said you'll never see Santa Claus the same again after this episode. That's an understatement. Sean dressed as St. Nick, insulting kids, making them cry, checking out their mothers, and getting some action with an elf? Hilarious. I loved it when the little (slightly plump) girl asked for a big chocolate cake and Sean/Santa said he'd just bring her diabetes instead. Sean getting drunk and lamenting over his family was only part of this episode though. Plenty else to talk about.

The issue of Sean drinking has me a bit worried. It seems awfully cliched and I hope Ryan Murphy and Co. don't fall into the trap of having Sean's developing alcoholism as an excuse to end the season with a "what will happen to him next" question. That'd be a lousy end to what I think has been a fantastic season.

That was the recurring theme for the whole episode though. Sean's family is gone, he's alone, and everyone else is happy. They complimented it well with plenty of other storylines though. I never would have expected Wilbur (how cute is he?!?) to re-enter Christian's life, but it makes perfect sense. Sean's family is gone and now suddenly Christian has one. There's enough tension at McNamara/Troy but this should lead to a lot more. Not to mention this guarantees Gina's return to the fold. Once she finds out Wilbur is back in town, she'll be around. Is she still running the spa by herself?

The character of Reefer was wonderful too. He was almost like Sean's guardian angel, chock full of "I'm homeless, so you better listen to me" advice. Sean really is a good man though and everything he did for Reefer was so nice. Too bad he unwittingly sent the man to his literal death bed. The second Sean asked Reefer if he'd like to stay the night in the patient bed and he mentioned only one other person was in recovery (James), you knew Reefer was done for. What James did to him was horrible. Using one of her girls to open the poor guy's chest and take anything they could? Terrible.

Anyone else confused by the ham that Escobar sent to Sean and Christian? I mean I understand the significance (watch the pilot episode if you don't get it), but why would he send it? Is there an actual reason or is he just screwing with them? I'm thinking it's more than just to mess with them. This guy still wants something.

What I really want to see is how it falls apart between Kimber and Matt. We know they're not together in the future and they seem happy right now since they're going on a Scientology Christmas cruise, but something has to kill this relationship and I wonder if we'll see it this season. That's the only thing I care about when it comes them. How's it going to end?

Best quotes:

Female Elf (to Sean, after he asks if she's gay): "I've been known to dabble but every now and then, Santa's little helper enjoys a big north pole if you know what I mean."

Poppy (upon finding out that Christian is adopting Wilbur): "Wow, that kid is going to need a sh*tload of therapy."

So... there's two episodes left. Anyone have some good predictions?
