According to this article in USA Today, identity thieves are offering people tickets to Oprah via e-mail. The unsolicited e-mails ask for people's personal information and claim they need to verify financial information in order to send the tickets through the mail. The problem is: there are no tickets for Oprah's show. Harpo Studios just takes reservations (months in advance) and it's free to view tapings. Harpo turned over the fake e-mails to the authorities and now the Illinois state Attorney General is investigating the scam. So far there aren't any known victims but once this news gets out, that could change. I can see it now: Oprah does a 'Favorite Things' episode for all the people who were scammed!ID thieves targeting Oprah's fans

I don't know why those ID thieves are offering tickets to Oprah Winfrey's show. I'm sure that Oprah herself wouldn't allow that, for she takes reservations in advance. I'm sure that her shows are already booked for the next 2 to 3 years, since she has the No. 1 daytime talk show. I hope that Oprah does a future show on this situation to warn viewers not to be scammed. Let me ask this question. Do these thieves know where Harpo Studios is in Chicago? So why would they collect people's information just to give them free tickets to one of her tapings? For all I care, they're probably stranded on Adams Street--they need to get caught and arrested.
