This is pretty funny. Seems that The CBS Evening News had some technical difficulties the other night. Not only did the video not work on a story, but they actually had to end the show a couple of minutes early.
First we see Katie draaaaaaag onnnnnn her tease for tomorrow and her goodbye (seriously, she seems to be talking in slow motion, trying to stretch things out), and then we see the typical camera shot of her standing in front of her desk shuffling papers in her hand. But this time, after the credits end, we see her stand there. And stand there. And stand there. And stand there. And then there's a weird commercial that seems to be a tech glitch too, and after that it goes back to Katie standing there for a really long time, with the camera sweeping in and out majestically. It's very odd. I would have loved to have heard the conversation between Katie and the people behind the scenes when the show ended.
If there's one good thing to come out of this is that we finally get to hear the full version of James Horner's new theme song for the show. Video after the jump.

Yep it's still gone.
I happened to watch this show. It was really strange. First they went to a story and there was no sound - so back to Katie who said they were having tech difficulties. Then when they got to the last story - oops - tech difficulties again. Then Katie wrapped up the show, slowly.
Actually, I thought Katie and the techies did a good job recovering from the problems - the show moved on and they all seemed to catch up.
The problem was the show ended up being really short. They seemed to roll the long version of the credits - but the credits ended and they were still on the air. For a long time. I agree it looked wierd watching Katie just stand there for so long but it would have been worse if she left and they shot the empty set.
That's the good thing about watching live TV. You never know what's going to happen.

She should have taken a cue from Family Guy and said "Well I just plain don't like black people" and then let one.
Now THAT is hot tv!

Whoops!
CBS yanked the video before we got a chance to see it. Maybe it will show up on innertube?
I figure the least Katie could do to fill time would be to smile, flip her hair, and maybe do a round or two of the highland fling.

The first package they had to dump on the air had video breakup that also affected the sound. Katie was fine in recovering from that, but they were obviously short a minute or so from that alone.
When the final package aired without sound, and they stayed on silent footage for twenty-five seconds, the producer was probably pulling his or her hair out.
I was quite surprised when Katie signed off so soon. They sat on the wideshot for about 40 seconds, then played a :20 promo for tomrrow's show, followed by a :20 generic promo about Katie. Neither promo had any glitches. At the end of the second promo, they returned to the same wideshot with no credits and sat there for a total of about 45 more seconds. At one point, they crossfaded the music to an earlier point in the theme, as if they thought they'd run out. The crossfade was quite noticeable.
It's also worth noting that this only occurred on the East coast version of the show. Apparently they redid the show for the remaining time zones that hadn't yet aired it, and the gremlins had vanished.
