(S05E09) I really do love this show and understand that you have to take it with a grain of salt to truly enjoy it, but c'mon. This episode was ridiculous! How did we go from a charity auction with gorgeous females to a terrorist plot to blow up the Turkey Point nuclear power plant? Only on this show.
I was glad they brought back Jake Berkley, Calleigh's old love interest. We haven't seen him in a few episodes. Now that he's left the ATF and joined the Miami-Dade police department, it'll be interesting to see if their romance continues. I'm thinking yes, or else why bother bringing him back at all? Speaking of Calleigh's love interests, whatever happened to Peter from the treasury department? I thought things were on the up and up for those two after last year's season finale and I'm only now realizing that we haven't seen him in some time.
OK, so here's what happened in the episode. Normally I wouldn't recap the whole case like this, but laying it out only furthers my point that it was damn near ridiculous. So... man has his wife and children kidnapped by terrorists. They want money. So the guy turns to selling heroin and holding "charity" auctions for dates with good looking women. He in turn funnels all the money to the terrorists so they don't kill his family. The terrorists use the money to buy off a stevedore at the port, ship in some plastic explosive, and drive it into a power plant. That is, until Horatio figured it all out and blew up the truck (with all the explosives) with one bullet. The man has pinpoint accuracy! Now tell me... how crazy does that story sound?
Here's something I just noticed, or I should say, here's something that I just realized bothers me. CSI: Miami does it all the time too. I hate when they use a new device (or any new equipment for that matter) and whoever is using it works in an explanation of what it does into their conversation. It's obviously meant for us ignorant viewers, but it always seems like they're trying to explain the stuff to each other. They did it twice in this episode. Once with that 3-D imaging program and again with the bomb sniffing machine. The lines are so canned... "Let me tell you what this expensive piece of equipment does as I use it." OK, done ranting about that.
Now correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't it feel like the team lacked a sense of urgency once the terrorist plot unfolded? I didn't feel like anyone was worried. I mean, you knew something ridiculous was going to happen once the killer was unmasked and there was still about twelve minutes to go in the episode. I think the problem is that they stacked the story wrong. After Calleigh was shot by the guy at the port, we should never have been told what happened to her. Leave it open and it kicks the rest of the episode up a notch. Leave it as a cliffhanger and give us a week to wonder if she's OK. Instead it's all wrapped up and there's nothing to wonder about except how cheesy next week's case will be.

Horrible, horrible episode. The writers must be done with this show because they cannot come up with anything good. I know it's hard but geez CSI:Vegas still has great episodes and they have been on for 7 years!!!! I am getting tired of these half ass storylines-time for another show for me to watch.

If you really want a great crime drama with a kitchy nic to it-watch Dexter and stop wasting your time on this dumbass show. I stopped watching it for awhile and gave it another chance-sorry i did-this is really bad. Horatio and Delko characters are annoying and cannot act and poor Emily Proctor all that talent wasted on this show!!

My husband and I watch this show strictly for laughs. The acting, writing, and Caruso's posturing could all be used as a comedy sketch but this is supposed to real drama. Gimme a break. The show progressively gets weirder and weirder each week.

If you start watching an epiosde keeping in mind that the "C" in "CSI" stands for "cartoon", then it's not so bad!

This has to rank up there with the "Tidal Wave bank Robbery" episode in terms of stupid episodes, and that's saying a lot. Far too many convenient connections.
And TVSquad reviews this rather than the original CSI. Why?!?!

In reply to #8-I made this same comment last week. CSI:Vegas has been so great and all new episodes have been shown. It has shown to be the best and I don't understand why TVSquad does not do a review on their shows but yet does this dumbass show instead.

The reason this show gets high ratings is for 2 reasons and 2 reasons only: #1. Nothing is on at that time. #2 People actually tune in to see how bad this show is and how much worse it's getting. It's just horrible. I stay faithful and true to the original-they don't wear fancy clothes when they go out to the crime scene. They actually wear CSI vests or shirts (exception: Catherine but she is a supervisor). They don't drive around in Hummers and stay pretty much true to the science to help them. But most of all-I love each and every one of the characters. Even the doctor!!

i really like this show. or should i say, "i really used to like this show". I was watching a few episodes of the first season of CSI MIAMI on the week, end. it was recorded with a dark tinted lense, and now as you can see its all bright colours. anyway, this show was definatly far fetched, "Horatio saves America". btw, that explosion, so fake i wanted to smash my TV. i wish this show would be like it used to be, now by each episode i am rapidly losing interest. i hope to God that the producers wake up, and get the hell back on track!

CSI: Miami is world upperside down than the Vegas show. People watch this is show unrealistic performance just like Heroes, and Studio 60. Monday nights on tv you just just wanna get your mind outside the real world which maybe explains why tv lineup for that day is so popular. Sure the dialogue sucks (go watch Dexter then). It is still the most watched show on Monday Nights.
I actually enjoyed this episode....pretty much sumed up the theme this season.....and I really want less Boa Vista and more Maxine Valera (tee hee Im sorry).

Sorry to blow my cred here but I FREAKING LOVE CSI: Miami! As outrageous as the scripts get, this show is a terrific vehicle for all the beautiful Miami scenery and (admittedly only some of the time) some effective acting and character development. This show is simply amazing to watch in HD - lush and gorgeous!
All of the show's principal actors make one care about their roles (frankly, I'm still pissed they killed off Marisol). Alexx and Caleigh are both terrific characters and I always look forward to seeing their segments of the show. When I die, I want a woman like Alexx in the morgue to take care of me. She's great. How can you not feel for Wolfe and him losing his vision and how that may potentially cost him his job? And even Caine losing everyone close to him in the world? I care about these characters, more so than everyone else featured in the CSI universe - and for that matter, most of the rest of the TV drama universe as well.
I also like the fact that we see recurring themes & plotlines resurface on a regular basis. All of the Male Noche story lines (including H & Delko's trip to Rio) have been fantastic regardless if they strain credibility a bit along the way. Again, we get some beautiful scenery and some well developed tension with each and every show. Tell me that last season's cliffhanger finale and this season's opener weren't two of the best to come and go so far this season! Monday nights are appointment television at my house BABY!!!
Two quick comments here though, bring back Rob Estes and Erica and dump Jake Berkley already. Rob brings just the right amount of sleeze to the show and I like how he just surfaces out of nowhere and adds a little spice to the mix. Who knew Boa Vista had it in her, huh? I can see something coming with this story line and I'm looking forward to it. Loved last week's story line about her sister, BTW. Erica is a trouble maker to be sure but I love the sexual tension between her and Wolfe. I'd rather see the triangle of Wolfe/Boa Vista/Erica than having Delko in there instead. Much more interesting and much more potential for fireworks. Lastly, I can't stand Jake going after Caleigh again. He's got WAY too much baggage to have a shot with her. Caleigh deserves MUCH better than the losers that keep going after her. Her character is the strongest female lead on this show (besides Alexx) and I can't see her putting up with the crap that both Peter and Jake bring to the table in a relationship. Jake is just clutter in my opinion, send him back deep undercover and get rid of him.

Jonathan,
Caleigh and the treasury guy pretty much ended when she found out he was engaged to be married last season. They are still friendly and professional when they get together on a case, but that's about as close as we will probably see them.

Seems #13 comments are a little touchy. Trust me, if there were better shows on Mondays to watch people would. CSI:Miami would not last on any other night. That's why they don't move it. No show really toches the "real world" but there are limits. This show did not start out this way. It was quirky but not stupid. Watch seasons 1 & 2. It had great potential. Then they ruined it. If people are tuning in (most) for the sheer laughter and making fun that does not make it a great tv show because it's not a comedy and it's actually kind of sad. And yes, I will watch Dexter on Sunday's because it does have all the elements-good writing, good acting, humor and yes a little morbid.

Michelle, I started watching CSI: Miami when the series began and about midway through Season 2 I just sort of lost interest and gave up on it for about a year. Part way into the summer reruns for Season 3 a year and a half later I accidently tuned in again one Monday night. The only way I can describe it is I wondered what the hell happened to this show and why in the world did I ever stop watching it??? It's like everyone on it finally got their groove on and it just revved everything up into high gear. The tweaks they made really did improve it in my opinion.
It all boils down to this show being a stylized weekly serial equivalent to all the summer blockbuster popcorn movies that come out every year. C'mon, this is a Jerry Bruckheimer production after all. What did you expect? Look at the comparable films that played the big screen and tell me if you think this show is really any different: Bad Boys I&II (especially II), Miami Vice, 2 Fast 2 Furious, etc. With the exception of the budgets and time constraints, I don't really see much difference. Like I said earlier - I love the heck out of this show.
Go get 'em, H!!!

People watch this show for two reasons: either they love to see Horatio save the day or they love to hate David Caruso's "posing and emoting" method of acting. I love the campiness, the stylized look, and the melodramatic deliveries. Sometimes Caruso reminds me of Columbo and his shtick, sometimes he reminds me of Superman and when he puts his hands on his hips, spreading his jacket open, I would love to see a big red "H" on his chest. If you are going to do cheesy, embrace it. Like the late, great, Liberace who enjoyed the same kind of "love him or love to hate him" reviews, I hope Mr. Caruso is laughing all the way to the bank!

It seems to me that people watch this show for one of two reasons: either they LOVE Caruso, or they love hating him. Either way, it translates to a "win-win" situation for CBS. I like the campiness, the melodramatic deliveries and the "pose and emote" style of acting Caruso has brought to his character. Of all the CSI shows, only this one could spawn a spin-off --- one simply called "Horatio." I look forward to this in a few more years. Like we used to anticipate Columbo's cigar stub, or his pausing at the door, we anticipate Horatio's fiddling with the shades of justice, the underlined delivery of words, and like Superman, we wait for the hands to be put on his hips, spreading his jacket wide and this is where I, at least, mentally place a big red "H" on Horatio's chest! Like the late, great Liberace who also enjoyed mixed reviews, I hope David Caruso is laughing all the way to the bank. This appeared in the Columbus Dispatch about 14 monthes ago. I wrote it:
Because David Caruso has shed the harness of scientific discipline for the "shoot-'em-up" style of the Western, CSI:Miami is my favorite show. When Lt. Horatio Caine hangs up his sunglasses and rides his Hummer into the Miami sunset for the last time, ubdoubtedly I will be shouting, "Caine, Caine! Come back!

I agree with most of the comments on this show. It's way out there. No story on tv is believeable but I think this show does not do the other justice at all. So, yes if you want to make fun of it and watch it to make fun of the big "H" enjoy it but as I see it most people don't and that's why the original beats it in the ratings. People still love what they can depend on-good writing and good acting. Not just the original but all shows. I don't think CSI:Miami ever made #1. David CAruso might be laughing all the way to the bank but I doubt he will ever be labeled a "good actor" or find a real show that would hire him. Actors usually want to be reconized for their talents not be laughed at. If anything he is just a shadow of himself. I seen the same performance of NYPD Blue. For all the people that love the same ole blah performances and weak storylines-go for it but don't knock the people who speak up and can't stand the big H or the stupid storylines. BTW: Season 4 really was bad-I loved season 1 & 2 Michelle, and wish they could somehow bring Speedle and Yelina back!!!
