Clever piece over at McSweeneys.net, describing some of the supposed videos submitted to ABC's America's Funniest Home Videos that were rejected for one reason or another. One of my favorites:
AFV712940: Fifteen minutes of still footage of washing machine. Strongest theory to date is that a man inside the washing machine is waiting to emerge in order to surprise girlfriend with marriage proposal.
By the way, is anyone else amazed that America's Funniest Videos is still on the air?
Wasn't there a time, maybe a couple of years ago, when the show was pulled from the schedule and every assumed it was cancelled? And then it came back on Sunday nights and has been going strong ever since. I have nothing against fluffy shows per se (hell, I've been watching The Price Is Right for over 30 years), but I'm just amazed that this show has lasted longer than 98% of the shows in history.
And I'd really like to see Tom Bergeron do something besides this show and Dancing with the Stars, especially after co-hosting Breakfast Time.

I wouldn't ever admit to this in public, but I still watch that show. I still chuckle at the idiots, and the cat goes nuts whenever animals appear. I've noticed, however, that you'll occasionally see the same clips on YouTube before they're aired on the show.

I will admit it!! I have watched this show forever and now it's a family tradition. After everything is ready for school on Monday morning we (hubby, 2 kids) sit down and laugh our butts off. The perfect time is 8:20. We DVR the show and skip all the commercials and silly stuff Tom does. (Like Head/Butt/Groin) We all have our favorite parts. Husband likes the bike and skateboarding crashes, son loves the "Naughty Files", daughter likes the animals and me... well I like it all. But I'm a fool for some groin shots! Hee hee!
There was a study done and it proved that the nursing home patients who watched AFV every day were generally in better health then patients that never watched the show. Laughter is the best medicine!

I love watching this show on Sunday nights...it's just plain FUN. and on Sunday's i like to unwind and get ready for the week and it's a perfect solution.
And like #2 it's become a family tradition much like Disney movies were when i was growing up. My kids absolutely love this show and I hope it lasts for many, many more years.
It's pretty much the original YOUTUBE...

I still remember the one bad submission that didn't make it on America's Funniest Home Videos during the Bob Saget years. And it wasn't funny, when someone sawed down a tree and it landed on a car. Can you imagine the embarrassment and humiliation one would feel if it aired on TV? They showed it once but the studio audience never saw it. No offense to Tom Bergeron, but Bob Saget made this show happen! Bob may be more into his 1 vs 100 game show today, but he was a natural the 8-9 years he hosted AFV. And I find it hard to believe that AFV is still on in a time when most people play DVDs or DVD players.
