(S03E07) Are folks really liking Piz's character as much as I'm reading. I'm really not sure I care for him a whole lot. I will say, though, that I loved Piz's slow turn toward Veronica at the mere mention of a missing person. But what's with Veronica's hair being all done up before she goes investigating? Did she really tell everyone to put everything on hold for 45 minutes while she threw a coat on and curled her hair?
Planning a perfect murder. Does anyone smell a possible future mystery coming on with this? I could definitely see a mystery later where there's a murder and then, clue after clue, we find that someone used one of those "perfect murders" that was submitted. Maybe the TA finds a good one and uses it. Who knows.
As for the internship at the FBI, there's no denying she deserves it. It would definitely make for an interesting future season, should the show continue that far along. We can only hope, right?
I knew it was only a matter of time before Vinnie Van Lowe would find out about Keith's tryst with Mrs. Chase. Can you imagine how giddy Vinnie got when he saw who she was doing the cheating with? A nice touch that the writers kept with the "Vinnie Special" or whatever it was called, where Vinnie buys off the guilty party.
Something is definitely up with the radio station and the rapes. I mentioned back in the first episode review that during the Parker rape, when Veronica walked in the room, we heard the campus radio station playing in the room. That's just too coincidental of a detail to not mean something later. Maybe Mercer really did rape the girls and just forwarded request calls to his cell or somewhere else? I know, it's a stretch.
I have to say that it's getting tiring to see Veronica constantly assuming the worst when it comes to those she loves. And then here's Logan, explaining to her how he was scared when he was in Mexico and got the heck out of there because of being scared. He's looking for her support and she just takes off. Seems like typical Veronica.
I have a question about the rapes. How do we know they were, in fact, raped? When there's no semen or hair traces, are they simply going by how the girls, um, feel afterwards?
Not a terrific episode, I have to say. A pretty meaningless mini-mystery. Wallace and Mac missing from the episode didn't help, either. Heck, I don't think I have a really good quote of the episode this week. Bummer.

I thought it was a really good episode. I thought it was emotional. It showed Veronica that she won't let herself fall in love because she doesn't want to be vulnerable, but that maybe she should let herself love the ones that love her and are always there for her.
She had always seen men as being unfaithful, but she had hope because of what she saw in her dad. Then he let her down. I can't imagine how heartbreaking that must have been.
I do agree with you about the rapes, though. How do we know it's not just some freak that shaves heads?

i was worried this was going to turn into a "carver" series of rapes and the more i think about it, the i think it could happen. if its a girl that opens up the remaining 50% of the campus/characters.
another solid episode, im just glad this rape plot is going to end soon rather than later.

It's not about how the girls 'feel' afterward as you said but since they know there is no semen or hair but i bet there is bruising. That's not to say that the rapist isn't raping them with a foreign object.
I feel bad for Veronica. I can understand why she would be so jaded. Logan isn't the picture of a model citizen/boyfriend so it's hard NOT to think the worst when he's being so secrative. I don't blame her for reacting the way she did when she finds out he ran away from the fire without trying to help the others staying there. They could have caused several deaths because they ran.

I really dug this episode, too. My working theory is that the feminazis are staging the rapes, but I also think the administration is also involved somehow. The Sully plot line from this episode seems destined to have major inclusion into the mystery.
As to VM's emotional status, I have been really impressed by her development and especially in the writers' restraint in her development. She's clearly got issues to work through regarding men. Even so, here's hoping it doesn't become some kind of endless repetition of "lessons learned." (see: Buffy's development in S6,7)

i'm also noticing Veronica's curly hair recently....not a big fan of the new hair due....i think it's a bit too much on her.
I do think the show gotta try to get more of their regulars together....sure, Tina Majorino is off filming Big Love somewhere, but it's starting to get weird to have Dick hanging out in a couple episodes then completely unheard of, then Weevil, Wallace and Parker also just pop out from time to time. Budget has always kept the show from hiring actors to be in all episodes from seasons before, but they should still try to make sure good amount of air time for the supporting cast.

Does anyone else think it's odd that Lamb has been less of an ass in the last few episodes? He's actually acting like a human being.

Mostly a pretty damn useless episode (I hate to say that of this show), except for the last five minutes of "OMG, they are NOT going there with the roofie again...oh shit, they are!". Though Keith and Logan watching Veronica was touching.

I have to disagree: I thought this episode was excellent. VM is getting back to its dark noirish roots and I liked that the writers are exploring the not-so-nice aspects of Veronica's character and how her judgmental tendencies have come back to bite her in the ass. The MOTW was nothing to write home about, but I liked the compare-and-contrast between the girlfriend (Meryl?) having complete faith in her boyfriend and Veronica having no faith in anyone at all.

i thought the episode was good and i loved the "orange whip" reference from "The Blues Brothers" regarding the egg sandwiches.
speaking of food, i'm confused about the whole setup. did someone put the hair on her pasta so she'd go back to get the drugged kind? who puts GHB in pasta? ;0)

I liked the episode...but I am becoming increasingly annoyed with Veronica's inability to grow and trust people. When people accuse her of making everything about her all the time, they are not that far off.
Loved the references to Real Genius tho...I was waiting for Veronica to patiently explain to Meryl that she was confusing her boyfriend with Val Kilmer...

I thought this was a good episode. Not great, since it was a little dark, but fine. It is nice to see Veronica a little flawed.
Logan and V will always have trust issues. Makes for a bad match.
No good quotes? Vinnie literally saves Veronica's life. "It wasn't even a camera phone". Good one. Piz and Veronica roomies? A half dozen good quotes there. How about the dopey girlfriend and the laser cannon? Several Lambisms?
Was Piz on the radio when Veronica was roofied? I could swear I heard his voice between songs. But why did she wander out of the cafeteria? That just didn't play well.
I'm voting for the Feminzis as the culprits. All the frame-ups have been ladies men (the fraternity, Mercer, Dick). Also - the last roofied rape the girls boyfriend was at the ATM. So it happened after the girl got back to her dorm. Security Feminazi is the obvious choice.
Also, return of the River Sticks. New exterior but same old interior? Or was that just me? The next big mystery will be the showdown with the Fitzpatricks.

Tim -- Veronica was clearly roofied (is that how you spell it?) in the drink she left behind at the table when she went to get a new pasta. Though the whole shaving head thing and then the hair in the pasta....hmmm.

Tim. I got the impression the GHB was in the drink, well not at first but when she went to exchange the hairy pasta for a new one someone slipped it in there.

The roofie wasn't in the spaghetti. She left her drink on the table when she went to complain about the food, and that's when he slipped it in.
It's possible Veronica was randomnly targetted, the guy was just thier looking for an opportunity to slip a roofie into any college girl's drink, and she left hers open.

Last time we were shown through the back, as Danny Boyd showed her. Don't think we saw the front.

My theory now:
The "rapist" is not raping the women at all. This person roofies them and is just shaving off their hair (and maybe stealing panties). It's a woman. And Veronica (and we) have already seen her. Who...?
It's the young lady who drives the safe-ride golf cart (let's call her Safe-Ride Gal).
Her motivation: She was messed up/roofied and molested by one of the frats when she was a young, naive freshman. This happened back when she was hanging out with the young black gal who would later become the student newspaper's editor and start a crusade against the frats. Safe-Ride Gal is doing this to teach stupid partying freshmen girls a lesson, and to get back at the frat that took advantage of her.
She framed the guy holding the illegal casino nights in the dorm because he is tied to the frats.
She knows now that Veronica is eventually going to figure it out. So she's going to next try to frame someone Veronica knows, but doesn't know too well -- Piz.
Veronica will suspect Piz, then the former student newspaper editor, until she finally figures out the culprit. I'm hoping that in the conflict that will ensue between Veronica and Safe-Ride Gal, it's not a guy who saves her, but a female friend... perhaps Parker or, my choice, Mac.
As for what happened the night of Parker's "rape": Safe-Ride Gal was in the process of shaving Parker's head when she heard Veronica and Mac outside the door. Safe-Ride Gal jumped into bed with Parker, pulling the blanket over them, and nervously waited for Veronica to leave. She held the buzzing razor in her hand, fumbled with trying to switch it off, but then probably tried to keep it quiet by shoving it under a pillow.

My guess is it's one of the RAs. Moe's line "yeah I have a key to all the rooms. All the RAs do" seemed a bit too contrived.
I liked the episode as well. Not one of the best ones ever, but as others have said, it's nice to see V's vulnerable sides. Still, I hope the writers do the unexpected thing and have Logan and Veronica stay together for the duration of the season. I'm sorry, but I just see Piz as the 'nice guy' destined to be a good friend while having a crush on her.

We saw when the person picked up V's keys that the exposed wrist above the glove was white, so that excludes Nish (the old editor, a theory I've read several times)and anyone else not caucasian. I don't think the rapist is a woman. The silhouette of the person who attacked V was very masculine. Yes, you can pad your body to make yourself look bigger, but again, that wrist, looked kinda hairy for a woman. Then add the fact that when Kristin Bell when told in an interview about the female rapist theory she was really surprised...I just don't see it adding up to be a woman, but it is VM, so we won't know for sure until the ninth episode airs. And yes, these girls are being sexually assaulted. Even if there's no semen or hair, there will be bruising and tearing, and other physical evidence that will indicate and assault. As others have suggested there could be foreign objects involved if the rapist does turn out to be a woman, but the idea that they're just getting their heads shaved and then wake up just 'feeling' raped is...sorry, it's just dumb. The police in Neptune are not the brightest, but if they couldn't prove rape they would just be looking for a creep drugging woman and shaving heads, they wouldn't keep using the word rapist.

Best quote of the night:
Veronica talking to Mercer in jail
MERCER: Logan has good reason to keep that to himself. But you shouldn't worry. He's a solid guy. I mean, I'd want him to be my boyfriend if I swung that way.
VERONICA: Give it time. You just got here.
Genius.
And right before was a funny Elvis reference.
VERONICA: Nobody willing to spoon you?
MERCER: Uh, no one volunteered.
VERONICA: Well, you know what they say in the big house: if you can't find a partner, use a wooden chair. Let's rock.
