(S05E08) After last week's episode, I read a decent chunk of comments about how viewers weren't too excited about Boa Vista and all the screen time she's been getting as the newest member of the team. As one commenter put it, "It seems the producers are trying to get us to like the Boa Vista character by making her the center of Season 5."
Well, I don't think most people realized it (unless they read it somewhere beforehand as I did), but this episode was based partly on a true story. Eva LaRue, who plays Natalia, went through a similar ordeal in real life with her sister Nikka. So I think in this case we can cut Boa Vista some slack.
Nikka LaRue actually guest-starred in this episode. She had a brief cameo as one of the reporters during Horatio's press conference. Nice touch, getting her involved with the episode. Plus, she got to work with her sister. I would imagine that was a pretty cool experience for both of them.
Moving on, the episode was one of the better ones we've gotten this season. It focused on a guy who ran a ring of model photographers. He traveled all over the country and when he wasn't snapping photos, he was murdering the subjects. On his most recent trip to Miami, Natalia's sister Anya was one of those women. Of course they got to her in time though. The only thing that bugged me about it was the entire time, I felt like there was a lack of urgency. Sure, they were looking for Anya... but no one (especially Natalia) seemed to be concerned more than usual.
Erica, Wolfe's reporter friend, was back. I really don't like her. When she released the info to the public, regarding Anya's relationship to Natalia? Total jerk move. Loved it when Calleigh told her off afterward though.
I think my favorite scene was when Horatio made it to the photographer's studio near the end of the episode. It seemed like sort of an homage to The Man With The Golden Gun, no? Similar to when Bond was chasing Scaramanga through that maze with all the strobe lights and shadows. It was cool the way they shot it. I liked it.
Other stuff:
- Wolfe's uncle was a safe-cracker and he taught his nephew the trade at age 11? That was a bit convenient since Wolfe and Tripp just happened to bump into a safe.
- I'm starting to get sick of the little feud between Wolfe and Delko. I don't even remember why they're fighting. But Delko is constantly shutting Wolfe down or disagreeing with him and it's getting old.
- I liked how they cut the episode about two minutes short to show pictures of missing women from various kidnapping cases still pending around the country. Reminded me of the Soul Asylum video for "Runaway Train."
So overall, as I said, one of the better episodes. Anyone else hang around for the previews for next week? Is it just me, or are the previews for this show telling us less and less every week? I'm not even sure what the next episode is about other than that tagline the voice-over kept repeating: "Everything is for sale." Or something like that... oh well.

Sorry, guess I am not as nice as the reviewer is on this episode. I did not like it at all. And yes, I realize it's based on a true story on Eva La Rue's sister but still it seems the writers are "grasping" for our attention. Overall, this episode is a 5 on a scale of 10 (10 being the best)for me. This episode did not make me feel for her character, just the sister's character. Horatio and Delko are still getting on my nerves with their bad acting and Delko's being mean to Wolfe is just irritating. I love Callie and wish they would put more attention on her and Frank Tripp. They are my favs!!!

I am with Mika on this one. Yes, Yes...it's based on true events but that did not make me like it any better. I am not a fan of the Boa Vista character so what.. the producers are trying to make us feel sorry for her and like her because of what happened to her sister? Not gonna happen with me. I liked the sister. I agree the story did not have much urgency and lacked any kind of "glued to the TV" grasping kind of thing. It gets a 4 in my book. I wish the writers would just focus on the better actors on this show like Emily Procter. Show alot less of Delko and give Wolfe more of a chance.

I got the impression that everyone knew that this week's episode was based on Eva La Rue's sister. Apparently Jonathan Toomey did not read about how we dislike the Boa Visata character not her sister. I agree with Thomas-is this supposed to make us like her or feel sorry because of what happened to the sister. It makes me feel sorry and like the sister not her. This episode was not great. I think they did an injustice to the sister's real life trauma and used it to make a story out of it for their show. I am getting sick of the Delko character(less screen time is better)and agree with the others-More Callie and Frank Tripp. Put some seasoned actors out there that can act. Horatio will always be Horatio (sunglasses on, sunglasses off ):)

I did not like the episode and I thought I would. However, I did like the last 2 minutes when they showed real life missing women. I am not a fan of the Boa Vista(surprise..surprise)character or Delko. I love Valara and Callie and of course we never get really a good sense of them at all. They never focus on them. I wish they go back to stories like in season 1 and 2.

Wolfe is annoying, i still don't like him as the replacement for Tim Speedle. Boa Vista is cute, and I liked last nights episode, but she was still the mole in the department. I agree, they need to show more of Callie, she's a strong actress. Horatio is awesome, if extremely overacted by David Caruso. I agree with the reviewer about the previews for next weeks episode. They are getting more and more vague every week.

Nobody but nobody can replace Speedle for me. I really miss him. I hate the Boa Vista and Delko characters as well. As far as this episode goes it was so so. Not great. Still I think season 5 has been lousy from the start. I just started watching A&E and the repeats. Season 1 & 2 were great. I think the writers are letting us down big time!!

Did not like this episode so what everyone has said i agree with. My question is -Why can't we comment on the original CSI show? It has been so good and yet nobody has reviewed it from TVSquad?? CSI is great-7 seasons and they still keep me going and guessing. I am tuning out of CSI Miami. Too much flash and no enough storyline even dealing with an actual real story!!!

i really liked this episode. it was definately one of the best, if not, the best episode of the season. i like the erica sykes character, well more the actress who plays her. a good actor can really make you hate the character they are playing. all in all i give this episode an 8/10. (i wouldnt bother with next weeks episode[eventhough i will end up watching it] it looks really dull).

Wow drew-you really thought this one was the best..huh. I'm with the majority. It was a 5 at best for me. As for the good acting-NOT! Does not mean the person can act if you hate the character. I have seen Adam Rodriguez (Delko), David Caruso (H)and Eva La Rue (Boa Vista) in other things-they are not good actors-period. Rory Cochran (Speedle), Emily Proctor (Cally) and whoever is that actor who plays Frank Tripp are really good whether they are playing bad or good characters. Very believable.

Does anyone know the name of the song & artist at the end when Horatio saved Natalia's sister in the studio in the DARKROOM Episode? It sounded like Emily Haines of METRIC. Can someone help please?

I just watch this show on HDTV for first time.....its one of the most good looking shows on primetime television. Once again they used alot of moving layers which has been the trend this 5th season. Only thing that bothered me in this episode was Boa Vista wearing that dress on a crime scene Glah! She freakin a detective for gosh sake! That dress was so ugly it looked she was on with bad date with Wolfe at crime scene. Anyways I agree with everyone that I kinda felt sorry more with Boa Vista's sister than just herself. Overall, this episode was okay but I really thought it was going to be the breakout theme for this season.
Im kinda tired of everyone blaming the actors of CSI: Miami, they work their asses off to film 24 episodes a season which I believe is alot and they deal alot their lives just like us. Half of the reason I watch this show is its characters but the other half its presntation, Howd they showned Miami in its true form and choice of background music is soothing ,very mellow and laid back which gives sort of paradise theme. I glad to give major props to men and women who you don't see on credits bar (except the writers I hate them) when they show a random popup that tells you whats happening on local news or whos on Letterman tonight.

well I did not like this episode either. I don't really agree with #12 comments on some things. First, that's not true color they are showing-it's a highly defined color lense they use to sprouse up-visually what you are seeing-is not what it looks like (watch Dexter). Second, not likeing the characters is not the same as not liking the actors even though some can't act. Third, most people to blame the writers for the show's lack of storylines. Fourth, those moving layers get on my nerves and detracts on what should be a good story instead of special effects.

I did not like this episode at all either...it gets a 4 1/2 for me. I disagree with #12 on a few things. Miami does not look like that. CSI:miami has stated that they use a color lense to boost up the visual so what you are seeing is not what it looks like. Those moving things get on my nerves and try and take your mind off the lamo story that's going on-they must be bucking for an emmy-I hate those things!!! I blame actors and writers both but only some of the actors. Emily Proctor can act. Adam Rodriguez cannot and neither does David Caruso (unless his gestures are part of the script that he used on NYPD Blue). let's not forget these people make a whole lot of money for time so I can't feel sorry for them. I wish the writers would get a clue!! This episode did not make me like Boa Vista. I felt bad for her actual sister and I felt bad they did not do her right by not telling her story and making it as serious as it was.

The episode was very entertaining. I give it an 8 out of 10. As far as acting, you couldn't tell from the first episode that none of them can act?
They are just quirky and interesting characters with sometimes impossible knowledge and heroism. They are tv characters not real people!
By the way Boa looked great in that dress. Nice gluteous maximus and legs, who cares about the dress. By the way Boa call me, I'm in the area.
If you don't like the story or the acting, guess what...don't watch the show (this would stop all the whining).
Does anybody know about the real story? Where can I find out more about it?

First, I jsut want to thank all the people who care enough about the show to say their viewpoints. #15 views on not watching the show if you don't like an episode-well Rob that's not this issue. It's a free country and you can say whatever you want about the show or characters. That's what's called a forum discussion. You don't always have to like episode. Personally, people have made some observations about the show that if the writers would read them-might help the show out. Keep saying your thoughts people-whether good or bad!!!!

Forgetting the real-life connection, the episode was ruined for me by the preposterous concept that someone whose uncle was a "safe-cracker" could be taught at age 11 to stand 6 inches from a giant safe and hear the inner workings in order to open it. THAT IS RIDICULOUS, no safe of that size could opened that easily

I really liked this episode, although Natalia's sister Sasha did not seem half as concerned about their sister as Natalia and the team, and they didn't seem more concerned than they usually are. I loved the part where Natalia goes up to the reporer ans says " hey reporter chick" and starts to tell her off when Calleigh tells her to leave it alone and then tells her off herself that was great.

I like this episode, just like any CSI: Miami episodes! I am a BIG fan of CSI, esp. CSI Miami. But what I don't get is of all the actresses in the world do they have to get the services of Emily Procter!!! I mean, she's the most annoying person I've ever seen on tv! I wish she gets a voice change and thorough acting lessonssssss! They should kill her in that show and replaced her with somebody who can be more credible.
