CBS will air the beloved Christmas specials Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman on the same night, Friday, December 8.Wait a second. December 8? Isn't that a little eary for a classic Christmas special? I know that every company starts to celebrate and advertise Christmas earlier and earlier every single year (this year all the stores in my area had Christmas decorations for sale right next to Halloween candy in October), but shouldn't shows this classic be aired closer to December 25, or at least repeated later in December after the December 8th airing?
Having said that, Frosty The Snowman has never been one of my favorite specials. I love Rudolph and Santa Claus Is Coming To Town and A Charlie Brown Christmas and the Heat Miser, but Frosty is kinda annoying. And talk about depressing. Sure, he'll be "back again one day" as the song goes, but that doesn't excuse the fact that the snowman is tortured by being slowly melted, and then dies at the end in front of the kids. Merry Christmas!

You know, TBS showed How The Grinch Stole Christmas over the weekend.
I'm all for the Grinch (and have been known to pull out a copy to watch in the middle of the summer), but yeesh! 2 weeks before Thanksgiving is just way too early to start with the Christmas specials.

I tend to agree. But, my 4-year old is seeing Christmas stuff at the stores and everywhere--he doesn't realize how far off it is. So, he has started to ask to see his Christmas favorites the last week. So, I am watching Frosty and Dora's Christmas all ready anyway.

The Grinch this weekend irked me.
Isn't the 8th later than usual, though?
I seem to remember missing both these shows when I was in college because they were aired so early, I thought the first week of December.
Remember the 80s, when Christmas specials were on almost weekly? I was a fan of the Garfield one, and terrified of the Ziggy one (Ziggy's Christmas Special and Joyce de Witt's hair starred in many of my nightmares.)
Why were almost all Christmas specials so damn depressing?
