With the Village Voice reporting on the general lameness of SNL's afterparties these days, it figures that it took two British dudes to shake things up post-show. When Hugh Laurie and Sacha Baron Cohen hit a local bar after their SNL appearance, Cohen - still in his Borat character - couldn't resist messing around with the locals on the walk over. Unfortunately he messed with the wrong local. British newspaper The Sun is reporting that he tried to buy a man's clothes saying, "I like your clothings. Are nice! Please may I buying? I want have sex with." I wonder which part the guy didn't find funny? He was so offended that he punched Cohen in the face and continued punching him. Who came to his rescue? None other than Dr. House, who pushed the attacker away and helped Cohen to his feet. Cohen received no lasting bruises, and I'm sure if there was something internal House would have noticed right away.
You got to give it to the guy for staying in character even in off hours, but for his own safety, maybe it's time the real Sacha Baron Cohen please stand up.
Thanks to TV Squad reader Chris W for the tip.

I, personally, found none of the parts funny. But then again I didn't find any reason to beat some guy up over it. I read in a paper that the person beating Cohen thought he was about to be robbed...

I figured I must be the only person who doesn't find Borat that funny. Sure in small doses, he can be amusing but there is no way I'm sitting through a whole movie. I feel that way about Howard Stern (I'm not comparing the two, just saying I can find humor in about 5 mins of Stern but I don't want to listen to his whole show.)
It's like Andy Kaufman, he would stay in character no matter what and sometimes that was funny and sometimes it wasn't. I think Cohen is very talented. I liked some of the Ali G stuff too. It just gets old for me quicker than it does for other people.

He's not funny, but the other guy had no right to hit him! He should've just walked away. People jump to solve problems with violence...

Borat is the best thing to happen to the stagnant snooze fest that passes for comedy in this country in years.

Borat is the anti-Dane Cook. Sacha Cohen's got brains, balls and an agenda to expose biogrty, hatred and hyopcrisy. Cook? He just tells awful jokes and looks/sounds like the ignorant jackass he is.
Thank god some people involved in comedy are still fresh.

Wow, I'm surprised that 1.) Borat wasn't recognized off the bat, especially in New York, and 2.) Why Sasha Cohen hasn't gotten his ass kicked earlier.

My theory is that Sacha Baron Cohen doesn't have a personality of his own. If he takes off the makeup and costume and tries to act normal, he will lose his mind, run around in tight little circles and gouge out his eyes.
I think he would rather get punched out than have that happen.

LOL.
I'm shocked nobody has hit him before this.
My friend dressed as Borat for Halloween,
and was in character for most of it.
He almost got in 2 fights, even though it was perfectly clear he was joking about.
Go Hugh Laurie!!

All I have to say is.. Its about time someone shut that annoying imbecile Borat up. Borat is an insult to his own people, Hes an embarrassment to his home town, Along with our country. He is an ignorant bigot who thinks being illiterate, immature and insulting other is funny. He should be banned from the US for his unforgiving behavior. Hugh only helped out that dolt Borat because "its the right thing to do".

It takes a delicate touch to insult anyone's race, cultural habits, anything of the sort. I find that Borat is not attracting a particularly intelligent fan, which is going to make them think "Well, he can do it, so can I."
Mr. Cohen is not a literary genius, not a polysci major, not even a psych major. I understand he is well educated, but perhaps he ought to sharpen his sword before he uses it to open his box of lucky charms.

'Bout time someone clocked him one. Too bad the Romanians won't get a chance to get their hands on him.
Actually, Fox should kidnap him, then drop him back into Glod--in character--and film the resulting melee. Now THAT'S television.
