As some of you may have noticed, we've slowly (and somewhat silently) been bringing on new writers for TV Squad. Some of these people applied the old fashioned way, others were referred or carried over from other Weblogs, Inc. blogs. But it's been quite some time since we've actually put a call out for new talent -- until now. In this case we've got some specifics you need to fulfill before we consider you. Read on below for details.
[UPDATE: The search is over! Please welcome new blogger Jay Black to the squad!]
In order to help us in the way we need at the moment, please don't apply with us unless you fulfill the following:
- Live in or very near NYC and be able to travel in and around the city easily.
- Willing and able to do interviews of TV celebs/staff both on the phone and in person. Experience here a big plus. And if you are a celeb, well heck that'd be a plus, too.
- Willing and able to go to events in the city and help cover them, like the New York TV Festival, for example.
- Here's the big one: Watches American Idol and wants to do our weekly coverage for it starting in January.
Oh, and before you ask, yes this is a paying gig and we will discuss what that pay is with qualified applicants.

Haha, does that mean nobody at TVS wants to watch American Idol? Man... I was getting real interested in the position until I saw that :P

Here's my summary of American Idol. Just cut and paste it, it'll be the same every week.
"What an enormous piece of garbage. Why does anyone watch this? Clearly anyone interested in this show hates music."
You don't even hafta pay me. You get that one for free.

Tucker -- It's more that it's a demanding job that we need someone dedicated to handle. It's two shows a week, and there's just a lot of TV on right now and not enough of us to cover it all.

Hmm lets see I don't live near NYC and I don't watch this American Idol show you speak of. You need a Chicago correspondent?

Yeah, I went through the list and was like "Nope. Nope. Nope. Doubleplusverynope!". Would love to blog for you guys, but I'm neither near NYC any longer, nor am I especially experienced with famous people (I don't speak celebritese).

The opportunity is intriguing, but the requirement of being a New York area based celebrity/socialite who enjoys American Idol, seems somewhat limiting.
Good luck with that...

It's not a *requirement* that you be a socialite or celebrity -- I never said that. Of course it's a *plus* if you have those qualities. :)
You need to have access to NYC, be willing and able to do interviews and attend events in NYC and write our American Idol review posts. That's pretty much it in a nutshell, besides being able to write, of course.

I can understand why you guys need someone to cover AI. It is the most popular show on television, thus traffic to your site is probably the highest when the show is on.

I live in NYC, have been around celebs, and like to write, but I have a full time job and can't make that kind of commitment. Maybe I'll apply if this comes up again in the future.

Damn damn damn.... I wish I still lived in NYC, but alas a commute from RI would be too much.... cause frankly I'd love to write about American Idol every week. Hey, not all of us can be pretentious TV snobs. ;)

Jeeeeeeff? Bob Sassone is a fantastic blogger, it's Jericho that needs replacing.
Keith, if you're going to include American Idol, you HAVE TO INCLUDE SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE!!! I would cover both, and I would even do it for free, but I live in Minneapolis.

I'd love to help you. I'm an experienced entertainment journalist and have done many celebrity interviews. Unfortunately I live nowhere near NYC. Do you accept 'freelance' interviews? (ie. if I were to interview a tv-celebrity, would you be interested?)

Thank you, number 9. Someone had to say it. If only someone would speak up about the God-awful summaries of BSG and The Nine and Lost and The Office and...
Wait, did I type that out loud? CRAP. Looks like I just spoke up.
It's too bad this entire company thinks virtually every blogger in the network has to be in NYC. I wonder how much quality writing they're missing because of that little requirement. I wonder how many people who actually enjoy television, pay attention to details, offer insightful commentary and spend time on analysis are being passed over due to this idea that TV blogging requires a particular geography.

Why has the Frugal Gourmet risen from the dead just to taunt Bob?
I have to rethink my entire perspective on the afterlife now.

Actually, I'm pretty sure it's just this position that requires the NYC-living. I think Bob's from Boston, Adam's from Minnesota (right?), Anna's from Oregon. They just need someone to cover the festivals and stuff that are exclusive to NY.

Adam, Not only did the Frugal Gourmet rise from the dead, he tried to throw you off the scent by changing the spelling of his name. :D

Chris W has it right. We've got people all over the place, but only really one person in NYC who can attend festivals and such (Joel). We've got people in California, Oregon, Massashusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, Delaware and even the U.K.
American Idol takes a lot of work. It's twice a week and there's a lot to cover and comment on. We need someone who'll be dedicated to doing that.
And I'm not sure where insults are going to get you.

I'm in Minnesota, correct.
And yes, this is a special position because TVS needs someone to cover big events in NYC.

So sad, I only fulfill one out of the 4 requirements. Damned geography!
