My Name Is Earl: Mailbox

The mysterious Darnell/Crabman/Harry Monroe(S02E07) Hmmm, some interesting developments here. After watching this episode, I've come away with the impression that Catalina definitely has a thing for Earl. She seemed awfully jealous whenever Wendy (Jenny McCarthy) was around, and when she and Earl observed Wendy and Will get together at the end, she looked very comfortable being around Earl. Whether this situation will develop over time is anyone's guess, but it would be interesting to see how these two would function as a couple.

And let's not forget the deal with Darnell aka Harry Monroe. I mentioned earlier this season that I would be curious to see a story develop around Crabman's arrival in Camden County after being dropped off from a van in the middle of the road last year. Now, we learn that he is in the Witness Protection Program, but we don't know what exactly for. When Joy reads the undelievered letter about him, she is obviously taken aback. She demands to hear the whole story, but Darnell/Crabman/Harry won't fess up. However, after numerous attempts, they come together again as husband and wife. (I wonder what the reaction would be if I said "I love you too, stupid" to my wife? I'll first make sure there are enough bandages and ice packs in order to be prepared.)

This show continues to do a good job of weaving guest stars into the story without them overwhelming the overall theme. I've never been a big Jenny McCarthy fan, but she has always exhibited the potential to be a decent comic actress. I thought she did a decent job here, but she wasn't exactly playing against type--wearing sexy outfits and coming on to guys doesn't seem like much of a stretch for her. However, she seemed to blend in well, and her "romantic" moments with Earl were pretty funny.

The whole plotline surrounding the never-delivered letter from Will to Wendy seemed a bit forced, although the scene in the motel room with Will finding Earl, Randy, and Crabman together and his "assuming" of what might have been going on had its moments. However, I tend to agree with Catalina when she hinted that Will, when he was in his buff personal trainer phase, should have been able to get together with Wendy without much trouble. There's such a person as a shy personal trainer? Interesting...

My takeaways from this episode were that I definitely think that something is brewing between Earl and Catalina. It remains to be seen how the writers will flesh out the story, but something should emerge. And it will be interesting to see how Randy will react, especially when he called "Dibs!" when they all met for the first time in the very first episode. Will he be jealous, or will he accept it and try to find love on his own? He had it for a few fleeting moments with the Cat Lady, so maybe he's got some mojo that someone will find appealing.

I'm also curious about Darnell's past life. When he told Joy that he didn't want to lose everything again, it makes you wonder what happened before to make him say that. There's a lot more than meets the eye when it comes to Darnell/Crabman/Harry, and I'm sure we'll be interested to find out.
