NBC is really getting the hang of this whole internet thing. On top of making much of its schedule available for viewing and for sale, the network will also stream a special edition of this Thursday's episode of The Office. NBC is calling it a "producer's cut", which is basically a different version of the show with extra scenes and whatnot. It will be available for viewing starting at 9 pm (Eastern) on NBC.com-- right after The Office airs. This is a smart move on NBC's part. It's like a DVD extra that is available right after you see the movie! Of course, deleted scenes on DVDs tend to be disappointing (there's a reason they're deleted!) but hopefully this will be worth the hype.

Normally deleted scenes are ho hum, but the ones from the Season 2 DVD for The Office were pretty amazing. They have alternate cold opens and improv moments. So this is actually a pretty amazing thing.

The Office has some great deleted scenes. Usually they're cut for time rather than just being stuff that wasn't working. I'm looking forward to this.

I agree... The scenes on the season 2 DVD are, for the most part, excellent. It's clear most of them were cut solely for time, as there are several that contain whole separate subplots. I was kind of disappointed there was no option to re-cut them into the episodes for a whole set of "director's cut" episodes, so maybe NBC has realized this is a good idea. I'm psyched.

I hope NBC doesn't air more Director's Cuts, not that I wouldn't love to see them. For some unknown reason, Canadian IP addresses are blocked from seeing the Director's Cut, although we do get to see deleted scenes. But not all of them: Canadian broadcast regulations allow broadcasters to hack up US programming to insert extra commercials, so we don't even get the full over-air version. So I'd be quite pleased if someone posted a synposis - it's all we up here will know about it until the Season 3 DVD set comes out...probably early in 2008.
