Let's get this out of the way. Arrrrrrrrrrrgh. That will be the pirate-speak portion of the post. I will now proceed without the use of the words scurvy, booty or matey. I will also refrain from shivering anyone's timbers. Mark Burnett, however, is just getting started.Since the pirate trend refuses to die, CBS and Survivor creator Burnett are whipping up a pirate-themed reality show for summer 2007.
What is known thus far is that the adventure-reality show will take place both on land and at sea. Standard issue competitions and elimination ceremonies will take place.
Burnett's production company is trying to avoid Survivor at sea comparisons. Good luck with that. Sounds a bit like trying to avoid the inevitable. I just hope they make all the competitors where eye patches and peg legs during the pillaging competition. I can already see the Captain Morgan tie-ins.

Shiver me timbers!
It's about time we had a Suvivor that had a bit more to do with surviving than whining over who got to go on the luxury reward! I mean, show me people who can learn a few skills and put them to work, even if it's merely plundering fake towns. Permission to steal from the other camp, water challenges, finding treasure -- pretty much all the best stuff from the season that Rupert originally showed up on.
Oh yeah -- and a reason to have buff guys and hot girls in bathing suits -- we can't forget that now, can we?

I seriously think it's time to put the phrase "reality show" to bed. Nothing about having a cast of amateur actors competing in silly costumes on a pirate ship set is vaguely realistic. There's more realism in the freakin' Price is Right.
