Nipping recent internet rumors in the bud, How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris revealed to People Magazine that he is "a very content gay man."This announcement comes just days after Harris' publicist told reporters that "he's not of that persuasion" in response to a story that Harris had used his influence to land his alleged "longtime sweetheart" David Burtka a role on Mother.
How about that? A celebrity who is "happy to dispel any rumors or misconceptions and am quite proud to say" that's he gay. Between Harris and Grey's Anatomy's T.R. Knight, this could become a trend.

They say events come in "threes." Any guesses on who will announce they are gay next????
As a side note, if he is happy then that is all that matters. More power to him for living his life that makes it possible for him to be truly happy.

You know, I don't care if he is gay or straight but I don't get the mentality that you have to come out. I don't see other television and movie actors sending out statements to the press that they are straight. If it truly shouldnt matter to anyone what anyones persuasion is then it shouldnt matter. If people ask he should just say, maybe I am, maybe I'm not, it's none of your business.

Jason, you need to have just a bit more imagination. Hey, Neil isn't a businessman who always wears a suit, either, and yet you believed that.
C'mon, let it go.

Wow let's act shocked! Who didn't see this coming?
Jason, you are a dumbass, he's an ACTor!
Erica, I'm gay, there is your third.
Cee I guess you didn't hear the news that Oprea is not a lesbian and is in fact straight? This is the kind of bullshit world we live in when things like this matter. And you come out so you don't have to continue lieing about having a date or what not. If he showed up to a party with another guy he would have to lie about it.

If gays stay in the closet, which would make you more comfortable, Cee, that makes it easier for the religious right and Republicans to demonize them, and prevent them from having full rights in society.

Cee unfortunately we live in a society that assumes that everyone is straight unless otherwise indicated. Depending upon the work environment, many gay people do the 'pronoun dance' to smudge over romantic relationships.
Straight people announce they're straight every time they mention their husband/wife, boyfriend/girlfriend and what they did together last night, over the weekend, etc. They announce everytime you see pictures proudly displayed indicating their personal life outside the office. Try not doing that. Not a lot of fun and not very emotionally healthy either. Cheers to NPH!

To be honest, I hardly ever think of the actual actors when watching a television show. I don't see T.R. Knight as being gay on Grey's Anatomy just because he came out, and I also don't find it difficult to believe the character Michael C. Hall played on Six Feet Under is gay just because he's straight in real life.
The fact you stereotype so easily suggests that you aren't as progressive as you like to think.

The idea that straight actors can play gay men but gay actors can't play straight men is beyond stupid.
If all you think about when you look at an actor is his or her sexual orientation, that probably means he's a bad actor. I DON'T think about it when I watch Ian McKellen, for example; that's cuz he's a good actor. I feel the same way about NPH.

For me this will change absolutely nothing... I dont care if he's gay, some of the greatest actors in the world have been gay and they can still play straight roles well!!

Its kind of sad, but gay men have constricted careers even in acting. Any doubt Hugh Jackman would have starred in Casino Royale if he were straight?

David, thank you we now have our third so we can stop talking about someone's sexuality and get on with our lives.
It this really important???
I don't think so. Whether he entertains you or not, it shouldn't matter one way or another when it comes to his sexuality.

"That sure if an awful big closet those queers got. They're always coming outHow come you never see anyone going into it? They never say 'I've been suckin' dick for 30 years and I'm tired of it! I want me some pussy!'" - Rodney Carrington.
Any time a celeb comes out like this, all I can say is "Well, duh!". Vin Diesel was the only one that kinda surprised me.

It is important for gay and lesbian celebrities to come out because there is still a stigma associated with sexual orientation. Also some many young gays and lesbians still feel like they are "weird". More power to all those secure enough in their self worth to come out and let others know of their existence.

let me further explain my post above. i was NOT saying that i cannot accept a gay actor playing a straight role, what i was saying was that the "over the top" masculine roles he plays/played in harold and kumar and HIMYM now hit me like he, Mr. Harris', is winking at the camera saying "look how ironic this all is" instead of "wow i'm playing a great character". his other roles in say doogie, or star ship troopers (the most underrated movie of all time lol) i have no problem with.
i guess what im saying is that now his acting on HIMYM plays more like an SNL skit, those who still watch it know that all the players seem to break the 4th wall with the looks they give into the camera during skits.
i you don't agree with me i dont care...at the end of the day its the internet and we will never meet each other in real life.
my 2 cents

Number three will be Wentworth Miller (aka Michael Scofield). I heard the rumor and then when you read any interviews with him, notice how he dodges questions about being single or about his personal life.
You heard it here first.

The only time an actor's personal life gets in the way of enjoying their work is when they shove it in my face over and over again. So as long as NPL isn't jumping around Oprah's couch anytime soon, I will still enjoy all the characters on HIMYM.
