Two chefs enter. Only one will be left standing. The reigning queens of food porn Rachael Ray and Giada De Laurentiis will go head-to-head on the November 12th edition of Iron Chef America. Rather than have to handicap Ray's game, the Chairman will be pairing up both ladies with one of the Iron Chefs. De Laurentiis with Bobby Flay. Ray with Mario Batali.
Alright, the Chairman is actually doing all the fancy pairing because the Food Network told him to, but Ray would get trounced otherwise. Nothing against Miss 30-Minute Meals, but De Laurentiis has some serious skills care of Paris' Le Cordon Bleu and Wolfgang Puck.
Here's hoping the secret ingredient is the tears of failed homemakers.

I think the secret ingredient should be Martha Stewart: poetic and with endless possibilities for meats and sauces.

Why must they torture us? I cannot stand Rachel Ray, but I hate Bobby Flay. How the hell am I supposed to choose a side?

I saw this battle when it was being taped. It isn't a pretty sight. The loser was so devastated that she actually tried to convince FN not to air the episode, so they held off some months from the original planned airdate to give her some time to recollect herself.

To Nellie Bradford--Rachael Ray won, by 7 or 8 points (I think). It was a pretty entertaining competition, no?

I have never seen a win on iron chef america by that much. Usually it is really close, by 1 or 2 points not 7 or 8. I may be a Rachael Ray freak at heart, but I love Giada's recipes, and was very surprised. I think maybe she is just as hot headed as Bobby "i think I'm God of the kitchen" Flay and that's why she lost. Also, she spent like 20 minutes making one dish, that ravioli. And now I sound like I have no life, so it's off to watch 30 minute meals for me..........

I was very turned off by Giada - so defensive during judging, acting extremely anal. I actually felt bad for Bobby Flay who had to work with her. I normally am not a big Bobby fan but I thought he was very patient with her childish antics.

I was disappointed that Giada did not win. I've tried at least 20 recipes from each Giada and Rachel and hands-down Giada's recipes win in my family. I've had to toss a few of Rachel's dishes out (like my husband literally gagged) and we've had to do take-out which was TOTALLY inconvenient.
I do however agree that it appeared that Giada was acting somewhat childish during the show but I think it was the stress getting to her - she is a serious perfectionist and like all perfectionists, you freak when things are not going smoothly AND you're time crunched (I can definitely relate)- but isn't that how everyone is?
It did appear that Giada was being sabotaged a bit but that could just be my bias. In any case, Rachel Ray's drunken noodles looked like straws and Mario Batali bribed judges with drink and gold. At the end of the day, I think Mario Batali is a genius but I find Giada's recipe's the best for someone like me - wanting to make the VERY VERY best for a my family in an elegant and simple and tasty way.
It just doesn't make sense to me that a "cooker" beat out a "chef". Was it really the Mario Batali v. Bobby Flay contest? Giada's recipes/stuff is way better than Rachel's ALWAYS, but I guess when it comes to that Iron Chef show the winner is whomever holds in their stress the best in 60 minutes when the producers throw wrenches in the machine!
Overall, I didn't like the episode because it seemed like producers were gunning for a certain winner even before the competition started. Not fair....
I don't care what the judges say, Giada is the best!

You have to remember, Rachael is the "Queen of Crunch-time", since she is famous for her 30-minute meals. Just look at how she works on her famous show -- carries all ingredients over in one trip, does multi-task cooking, etc. Of course she is much better prepared for this time frame than Giada who, as it has been said, is a perfectionist, who probably takes considerable time preparing her dishes and who usually does things one step at a time. She really does need to work on losing gracefully. They have rematches -- she should challenge them to a re-match, and having had the experience now, come in better prepared for next time.

I thought the result was apropos. Raychel is a "feel good tastes good" kind of person. With the expertise of Maria thrown in the Mix they were a sure hit to win. I do love many of Giada's recipies but in the end...I'd have more fun and probably feel more at home visiting Raychel Ray for an evening dinner.

I saw the episode... and let me tell you!!! It was just me all for Rach, while the rest of my family (6) were up for Giada!! Watching it i noticed what some of you have said, Giada is a perfectionist... it did seemed she was getting ready to fling something... Rach (my girl) looked like she kept her cool but her hands shook like crazy!!! Watching both i realized this... i would cook Rach's recipes. Mainly because i felt more at home watching what she was doing. But if ever i wanted to impress some friends on a "Nice" dinner, Giada would be it. Rach won!!! YAY!!

That show sucked. It was about Mario and Bobby, not Rachael and Giada. I don't blame Giada for being upset with the results. It's a major disgrace to lose to Rachael Ray.

Let me tell you I absolutetly love to watch Giada's show as much I love Rachael, although have to say Rachael is more fun, eventhough many find her annoying after you watch her a few times you just get used to it, she makes cooking fun, and giada makes is sophisticated and delicate. Now the Iron Chef match I knew right off the back that Rachael was going to win because I thought her and batali were a great match very similar personalities, I have to say that eventhough Rachael is just a cook a not a "Chef" like Giada with all her schooling, rachael does what chefs do best (works well under a lot of pressure) and Giada somehow was too goodie goodie for all that, it took her forever to make ravioli and zepoles which shouldn't have been the case, and thats why she lost in the end things didn't come out the way she wanted and I think the judges realized that too, also I kinda noticed a little bit of friction in the end between giada and rachael, did anyone noticed the ackward moment of congratulations, Giada HATED losing to Rachael, but it was funny...
