I'm officially done with Deal Or No Deal. I've tried to like the show, because I'm a game show geek, but the show is just maddening. And now, even the NBC ads are ridiculous.
Did you see the ads NBC was running the last few days for last night's episode? They showed a woman who did really well in the game. So well that she got to the end of the board with most of the big numbers ($400,000 to $1,000,000) still in play. So why did I have to watch the episode? Couldn't I have just turned in really late in the episode to see what happened? Where's the build up in the episode? Where's the drama?
I mean, think about it: what kind of a game show shows a preview of what's going to happen in the show. Can you imagine The Price Is Right doing that?
Gah! I've written here before on how bad the show is. And it's not like I expect all game shows to be Jeopardy. I like the mindless shows too. But Deal Or No Deal goes beyond mindless into insulting and tedious territory. (And the contestants...wow. The most annoying in history, and that goes for their family members too.)
No more, Howie and Mr. Banker. I'm done with your show.

Deal or No Deal is just stupid, there is absolutely no skill involved. It is just simple propability and risk. Are you willing to gamble on your chances of getting a higher value from your box than what the banker is offering based upon what values you know are left? Simple as that.
The US version may be different, but in the UK they spend ages deciding which box they're gonna open as if it makes any difference at all! They could go left to right and it wouldn't matter since the boxes are supposedly random. They also seem to make decisions based upon who is holding each box, as if they chose the value inside or have any ability to affect the contents. Then once a box has been chosen they spend ages pontificating about how it ended up being good for them or bad as if there next selection could be improved in some fashion - which it can't since the boxes are random!
What also annoys me is that the list the values on the screen with so called low values on the left and high values on the right then call of each removed value as good or bad. Now ultimately the aim is to come away with as high an amount as you can, but in reality the remaining values can only be considered good or bad in relation to what the banker is offering.
Basically, there is about 5 minutes of show without the padding and that would just be people opening boxes.

I've only seen one episode of Deal or No Deal, and that was enough. Really. I respect Howie Mandel's ability to work the crowd and increase the tension, and the show itself is a great example of how with enough drama you can make dumb luck feel like skill, but other than that, it's worthless. The contestants delude themselves into thinking they've got a strategy, when really you'd be better off at a craps table.

I faithfully watched the first couple weeks of the show, but the contestants have become increasingly annoying and Howie no longer fresh and new. I don't watch any more. I'd rather read the newspaper, a second time.

I agree with Tara. This show is stupid. WHERE IS THERE ANY ACTUAL SKILL? They should try a version similar to the old CONCENTRATION.

THIS SHOW IS STARTING TO GET ANNOYING....HOWIE (A NICE GUY) REALLY HAS TO SPEED THINGS UP. I KNOW THAT THEY WANT TO DELAY,FOR EFFECT BUT ITS BECOMING MORE OF AN ANNOYAANCE THAN ANYTHING ELSE. I PREDICT THAT THIS SHOW WILL COLLAPSE WITHIN 4-6 MONTHS IF CHANGES ARE NOT MADE TO IT .....

The ad for that episode was a dumb move because it did show that she gets pretty far. So i just skipped the first 20 minutes but it did ruin the drama part of a game show.
Now question is if they get a Million dollar winner will they ruin it like ABC did with "Who Want to be a Millionaire" and blab it all over the news the day of the episode.

Someone, somewhere, will piece together nothing but the last ten seconds (or less) of every Deal Or No Deal, put it to music, load it to YouTube and it will look like genius.

I too watched the original couple of weeks cuz I'm a nut about game shows, especially in primetime. But the surprise appearances of family that "couldn't be here" and the "stragety" talk with the friends and family that are there not to mention just the dragging out of the game just got to me. Recently, I've caught commericals of Howie driving out in tractors and monkeys walking in for some reason. Wow, I'm glad I stopped watching.

I don't understand why anyone watches this show. Maybe it's just because I dislike Howie Mandel, or I don't care about a bunch of women in dresses, but it's no more exciting than watching someone flip a coin twenty times. Having a lot of excited screaming, flashing lights and sparkly things does not change the premise.

Who decided that this show needed to be on the air? Did a television executive suddenly decide that Who Wants To Be A Millionaire was just way too cerebral? I've seen mini-games on The Price Is Right that had more depth than Deal or No Deal... and that includes Superball and Plinko!.

I watch it for the agony.
You should have seen the 11/27 show -- my god, what an example of pathologically irresponsible behavior, a beautiful demonstration of the inability of the contestant to make the right decision, of how his adherence to the image in his head overrides his perception of reality. What an amazing display - it should be shown to every psychology class.
