There's something seriously wrong with Elisabeth Hasselbeck.
On yesterday's show, the conversation turned to John Kerry's remarks the other day about President Bush, and before you knew it, Elisabeth and Joy were going at it again. Hasselbeck not only said the words "flip-flop" (wow, she must have the talking points in needlepoint on a pillow back at home) she actually said that Kerry was "like Mel Gibson without the booze."
Yeah, well, Elisabeth Hasselbeck is like Dr. Laura, without the brains.
Before it got too much out of hand - if it didn't already - Rosie put an end to it all with a little song.

John Kerry, himself a soldier, was not insulting the soldiers. Bias doesn't come through when you're telling the truth; bias comes through when you're lying out your behind.

How can you say Kerry's remark was not insulting to soldiers????? There was no "joke" about Bush in his statement. How can anyone put a positive spin on what he said? NoLife - please explain.

Here is the entire context of what Kerry actually said vs. the edited version the Republicans are politically attacking.

Yes, Kerry's remarks came across poorly, but it's not as bad as some would have you believe. And the argument could even be made that the political manipulation of the edited portions of the Kerry comments are more offensive that the foot-in-mouth job to begin with.

Right...and it's only the GOP War Machine that is all over Kerry on this. Many high-level democrats called the "botched joke" insulting too.
Even if Kerry was indeed making "funny" on the president, the punch line is what? If you are "lazy" and "uneducated", you get to become President of the United States? Not bad.

Amazing how kerry is done in by his own words, and then goes and accusess the usual boogeymen.
Behar displayed her true colors by defending the elitist. Kerry's arrogance in his denials afterwards was disgusting.
Funny Kerry is not. Accurate, Kerry is not. Someone needs to remind Kerry that the President got higher grades than him at Yale. Does that make Kerry even more stupid?
John Kerry served 4 months, got 3 questionable purple hearts to get his blueblood ass out of there while others, like my father, had to finish out their tour. To call him a solider is insulting to soliders everywhere.

Wow, Bob. A liberal complaining about someone using "talking points". I think we used to call that "the pot calling the kettle black".
I enjoy your articles about television. Your articles about politics? Not so much. Stick to television, leave your politics in the voting booth.

If you actually watch or read what Senator Kerry said, it is clear that he was attempting to insult the president, not the troops. A poorly-constructed insult, yes, but Senator Kerry is nothing if not mindful of his military background. A background NOT shared by Mr. Bush. Apologies galore are owed to the troops, obviously, but NOT by Senator Kerry.

Telling that all the comments critical of Bob -- DrG, mike, enuff -- not one addressed what Hasselbeck actually said, which is what Bob was doing.
As Bob noted, Hasselbeck is a complete moron who hasn't ever uttered an original thought and just spews the company line (which happens to be Republican, but would be just as annoying if she was a Democrat). Nothing was said about whether Kerry's botched joke was offensive, whether the response to it was way overblown, or whether Kerry's non-apology may have made things worse (see last night's Daily Show).

Elisabeth comparing what John Kerry said to Mel Gibson was hilarious. I tape the View just for Hot Topics everyday. The best was watching them interview Charles Gibson later and whenever Elisabeth made a comment Joy would make faces. It was so funny.
I won't get into a political debate on a blog for television.

BS. Kerry being a solider for a couple of months in Vietnam doesn't excuse him from being an idiot.
"Bob comments on the show and by watching the how it painfully obvious how small minded Elizabeth is."
Right. And Rosie is all open minded when they bash Republicans. Right.

Curious you said "flip-flop" was a talking point but didn't say the same about Joy saying "draft dodger" a thousand times. They are the same type of cliche talking point no?

OK, I'm in.
First, Hasselbeck has a valid point. Kerry has a long history of insulting our military. That's a fact.
Second, this whole thing would have blown over if Kerry had made a sincere apology immediately. Instead, his response was one of defiance. Had he said "That's not what I meant, but I'm sorry if you took it that way." I think he would have been OK. But he didn't. He came out swinging with an "I don't owe anyone an apology" attitude.
Kerry has bad instincts when it comes to managing himself. He comes across as an elitist snob - frequently.
Third, I'd like to discuss Rosie's reaction to the dust up on THE VIEW. Do you honestly think that if it were HER trying to make a politcal point, she would have been silenced by someone ridiculing her with song?
If you don't agree with her, you're stupid and worthy of ridicule. HER political views are valid, though - and she will stop at nothing to make them heard.
It's all part of the elitist double standard that Kerry finds himself mired in right now.

Not that I watch The View, but...
Isn't it just possible that if Elisabeth and Joy are squabbling there might be something wrong with Joy? Does Elisabeth have to be the one who has a screw loose?
