Rob Lowe likes playing politicians, doesn't he? Well, at the very least, he like playing politically based roles. Maybe those roles give him a chance to jut his chin two or three times per episode, but I can't be sure.Anyway, the reason why I ask is because Variety reports that Lowe has been signed to play a "John McCain-type Republican" senator (Do Hollywood scribes write any other type of Republicans?) in at least six episodes of the ABC show Brothers & Sisters. His character will be running for reelection while going through a contentious divorce, and will start dating Calista Flockhart's character Kitty when he goes on her talk show.
Jon Robin Baitz, the show's executive producer, wrote the role with Lowe in mind, and tells Variety that he hopes Lowe will stay full time after his six episode stint is over.

Well, as much as I like Rob Lowe, I really enjoy the chemistry Flockhart has with Josh Hopkins' Democrat character. Sort of a mary Matalin/James Carville realtionship, except that Kitty isn't quite the shrew that Matalin is.

I'm still waiting for Kitty to wolf out during her talk show. (They keep calling her a firebrand, but she's as meek as a lamb in every clip they've shown of her talk show.) Maybe Rob Lowe will get her excited.

Brothers and sisters is the best new show this fall and Rob Lowe will be a great addition! It will be fun to see the reaction Josh Hopkins character will have to Calista and Rob. Kitty definitely doesn't have problems getting men, does she? That will make 3 very hot men since the show began!

I love the show but I cannot understand for the life of me why television keeps digging up Rob Lowe from the compost pile of actors out there. There are far better choices and if he ends up staying on the show I would consider changing the channel.

#^ I disagree with you about Calista...she's the main reason I watch the show..I loved her on Ally McBeal and couldn't wait for her to come back!!! .Rob Lowe I think will be an alright addition but I DO think someone we don't already know would be good...they don't need more "known" faces to get an audience..it's a great show and picking up speed...

I am very excited that Rob Lowe will be coming to the show. He was awesome on West Wing and I think that Calista and him will make a great team. to #6, that's why you have a remote control, if you are falling asleep with this show, change the channel.

I am trying to love this show and maybe Rob Lowe will help me get there. I adored him in West Wing. The problem I have with "Brothers and Sisters" is the women. Sally Field overacts in too many scenes and Calista is just acting like Calista. The whole diabetes episode was overdone as well. Everyone jumped when Page's alarm went off like she was about to have a heart attack or it was something to be ashamed about. Her uncle swooping in and making everything all better was so contrived. This show needs to get better soon or it's going to lose me. Bring on Rob!

I think that Rob Lowe will be an outstanding addition to the cast. If not for the poor writing for his character on The West Wing, I think he would have done better as his acting skills were not challenged or showcased on TWW (A show I LOVED!). Remember, he was always stuck in some ridiculous banter with Bradley Whitford, Allison Janney or other members of the cast who had much "meatier" roles and quite often was forced to play the "Oh,duh" routine far too often for a show that was considered intellectual. I think this is a great avenue for Rob to showcase his talents. I look forward to watching him. And let's face it, he's certainly not tough to look at! Never was and probably never will be. I actually think that he's gotten more handsome with age. I wish him luck and success!

Rob Lowe will be a great asset to the show!! I was refusing to watch this show anymore it because I can't stomach the gay men kissing. I don't need to see this on tv and ABCshouldn't be showing it on network tv. So Ken Olin, you redeemed yourself for 6 episodes. After that if the gay kissing and touching continues, I'll stop watching.

"Average looks" ?! No way! Rob Lowe is too cute!
When he was younger, he was prettier than his female co-stars.
I agree about Kitty-she's dull and I hope Rob will spice things up.

I agree that Kitty's character is dull. I am also disappointed in the whole tone of the show. The best episodes were the first few when the "affair" came to light. But now the show's momentum has stopped. In fact it is getting to feel like "thirtysomething" which Ken Olin and his wife starred in. Please spice it up with better writing and more interesting plot lines. Actually the best show on TV is Boston Legal, the writing on that show is superb!

What does Ken Olin have to do with this? Is he in this? I noticed his wife is in it, Patricia Wetig, I think that is how you spell it. She is the girlfriend of Sally Fields brother. So far it has been interesting to watch.

I like the show but I agree that Calista's character needs to be more passionate in her political beliefs. She's supposed to represent the conservative Republican but she bites her tongue far to often instead of standing up for her beliefs. I think it would be too contrived for her to end up with her polar opposite counterpart on her tv show but they do have good chemistry together.
I'm not a big Rob Lowe fan. I actually preferred the guy who played Kitty's fiance from New York and felt he was better suited to the type of character she plays. The show is good but they need to quit with all the deep dark secrets and get some good story lines going for the characters and work on developing them into real people with real lives and relationships both in and out of the family. Not everything is a crisis and not every show needs to deal with a crisis nor does every relationship need to be difficult. They are going to lose the characters and lose the story in all the confusion if they keep introducing new people and new problems in every episode. The show doesn't have to be complicated to be enjoyable.

I was never a big fan of Calista but tivoed this show as I did all of the other new shows. I actually have become a big fan but do agree with the less than feisty Kitty character. As much as I like Rob Lowe, I would like to see her pursue a relationship with her co-star on the show. And YES get over the gay thing!!! It is part of our society now as is mixed marriages, single family homes, etc., etc.

I LOVE that Rob Lowe will be joining the cast. He is awesome. I hear all the critics above, but I really am enjoying this show and the tone it is setting. It is different than a lot of the new shows coming on this year, I think it has staying power, it is just finding its "legs" so to speak. Can't wait for Rob to come on, I think Calista and him will have fantastic chemistry and will be the "spice" you all are looking for. I also think she will be able to speak her mind more with someone who shares her political views and you will see her more fiesty as you say. As far as gay men kissing, oh my gosh, where have you been? I guess you can always change the channel if you would like, becuase it is just showing what is real in the world. Keep up the good work, really like the show!!

Excuse me Fabion, but you dont get the chance to Rip on Sally Field! Make fun of Rob Lowe all you want. He thinks he is better than he is anyway. He is just another David Carruso, he thinks he is better than his shows, then they take him off and then he is umemployed!
Sally Field is awesome!
