Dancing with the Stars: Week 8 results

Joey & Edyta(S03E16) I'm amused by the hoops they have to jump through to stretch the results out to an hour. Seven minutes of rehashing last night to kick off the show. I realize that filling the 58 minutes of the hour that aren't the results is a chore each week. But aren't we pretty safe assuming that the vast majority of the people watching the results show also tuned in for the competition?

Monique and Louis were awarded the encore for their cha cha cha. Really, any of the couples could have been given the encore this week. They all danced very well. When they chose Monique and Louis I took that as confirmation that they were leaving and the producers wanted to give her the best possible send off.

Willa Ford came back to sing "FAME" while the pros danced. It wasn't my favorite of the big pro dance numbers, but I am a sucker for a good cover song, and Willa did a nice job. With only four couples left, now only one safe couple gets named safe in the first results segment. This week, Emmitt and Cheryl are safe.

Il Divo perform while Anna Mikhed and Victor Fung dance. Beautiful dancing, but this was the worst musical guest of the season. They are described as a cosmopolitan quartet of pop/opera crossover singers. Maybe that's just not my thing, but I didn't like anything about them.

The SWOP (swing + hip hop) number was amazing. Those girls were getting tossed all over the place. It was something that I'd never heard of and I came away very impressed with all of them. That said, I think the question of just what it was doing on a ballroom dancing show is a legitimate one. It was like a little five minute interlude of So You Think You Can Dance?.

Back to the results, Joey and Edyta are moving on. I didn't get the recurring assurances that they were not revealing who was in the bottom two. Why does that even matter? Does someone think that knowing Mario, Joey, or Emmitt were in the bottom two this week will make the whole voting system crumble in the semi-final?

In the end, as we all expected, Monique and Louis are leaving. It was a nice run for Monique, and I'm sure it did wonders for her career. Dancing with the Stars exposed a huge group of people that never saw High School Musical to her talents. I hope she takes advantage of that.

So we have our final three. I think Mario is still the favorite, with Joey and Emmitt in a dead heat right behind him. With the right performance, any one of these three can win. It should be fun to watch.
