(S02E07) Well, it certainly didn't take long to put Bones back into high-gear after the long October break (stupid Major League Baseball). We had a 'stripped from the headlines' murder involving a child beauty pageant star, a 9-year-old murderer, Bones touching and watching beauty pageant contestants (for investigation only), sexual awkwardness between Booth and Cam, and some increased sexual tension between Booth and Bones.
But, screw all that! Angela and Jack went on a date! And they kissed! Well, guess that speculation post I wrote two weeks ago about those two gets thrown out the window. Or, maybe not.
Read on, my TV Squad friends, if you dare.
At first, Angela wasn't going to go on the date with Jack, even though the sexual tension between them was so thick this episode you could cut it with a scalpel. Personally, I wanted to reach into the television, grab those two crazy kids, and scream 'Just kiss each other, dammit!'. Luckily, Cam and Bones(?) persuaded Angela to go on the date with the assumption that it would go badly, there would be a short period of awkwardness, and then things would get back to normal. But, the date didn't go badly. In fact, according to Angela it was the most perfect date she ever had. See, that's what you get when you listen to advice from a forensic anthropologist.
Still, even though it was perfect, and it looked like an office romance was about to begin, Angela put a stop to it. She felt that if the relationship with Jack went sour, things could go very badly for both of them in and out of the office. So, she decided Jack and her should remain friends. However, scrappy Dr. Hodgins didn't give up. In a last ditch effort to keep the relationship alive he asked Angela what would happen if it didn't go badly. So, it looks like the door remains open for something to happen.
Meanwhile, there was an increase of sexual tension between Seely Booth and Temperance "Bones" Brennan. It was clearly seen at the end of the episode, when they were complementing each other on their looks. Then, they got very close, and looked into each others' eyes. I wanted to reach into the television, grab those two kids, and yell 'Don't do it!'. Fortunately, all they did was order Thai food. There does seem to be a slight crack in their relationship, though, in the form of Cam. You can tell Booth is fighting his feelings for Cam. Whether he'll win that fight or not will probably be revealed in upcoming episodes.
What else this week? Oh right, a murder to solve. Really good. It was another case where I didn't know who the killer was until the very end. And, the investigation was very thorough, which made for a very interesting episode. The good thing about it was that the relationship story between Angela and Jack didn't really interfere with solving the crime.
One more item before I leave you. Has Booth always worn thin ties with his suits? I noticed that he wore two this week. Are thin ties back in style? I mean, if they are, I have a ton of those ties purchased from Chess King and Merry-go-Round that I can wear again. They'll go great with my white linen suit with the push-up jacket sleeves!
That's all folks! Next week: Viva Las Vegas.

I interpreted his choosing between Cam and Brennan as choosing between physical urges and his heart. I was totally happy with the scene as she blew Cam off to stay with Brennan, it shows alot there. Ultimate b/b scene. I'm trying to hold off on B/B but the writers are playing with the viewers.
Great episode to start right off the bat, next one may even be better. Love Angela and Hodgins as always, perfect date, the ending was heartbreaking yet its so rational in a way.

I loved the end scene between Booth and Brennan. I like to see them grow closer and the UST between them is palpable. Hopefully the writers don't push those two together too fast. I'm enjoying watching their relationship grow slowly over the seasons.
I would also like to mention that Kyle Gallner was wonderful as a moody little emo boy. I loved him in Veronica Mars and hope to see more of him soon.

I think the ties are something that Mr. Boreanaz choose for the character Booth. He wanted something that was old fashioned. He has used Steve McQueen as one of his inspirations for the character. Of course you could just be like me and wear whatever makes you happy -- forget about style!!

Ok, I noticed a couple of odd things.
- The pagent was held at the Hyperion Hotel. Especially considering DB's coldness twords his vampire days, the nod to Angel's old 'house' was a bit weird. I even googled Hyperion Hotel and Virginia, to see if it was just an odd coincidence, and the only thing that came up were Angel episode summeries.
- Did anyone see Booth's socks during the dance school scene? I mean, multicolored stripes? Seriously?
- Kali Rocha (cough cough, Buffyverse connection, cough cough) was outstanding as the victim's mother. No really odd, just wanted to make both of those comments about her.

I enjoy Bones, its a good show. But seriously people, they found a large beauty pageant medal at the crime scene. Who the hell would carry that around with them? That’s like if I kill someone and leave my bowling trophy next to the body, all im saying is make the ending to the investigation a little less, stupid, I could be wrong, I didn’t catch the last 15mins of the episode

Naiche, If you didn't catch the last 15 minutes did you see who the killer actually was? 9-10 year old girls aren't the most rational thinkers while stuffing a body into a pipe.

dorv, was the pageant girls mother "Halfrek" (the demon friend to Anya)?
I thought naming the hotel that held the pageant the Hyperion was pretty amusing.

I was so dissapointed in Angela. I never thought she would be the type of girl who was afraid to jump off the swing. I would guess she'll take the leap soon. It seems to be in character.

Why is it that I can accept Angela and Jack as a couple but at the end of the day I just can't accept Booth and Bones together. Bones offers very little besides smarts (a little too square-jawed and lacking in social graces) while Booth can have his pick from the multitudes we have seen.

- Yes! Not so very stylish, huh.
And I'm pretty sure Booth has had thin ties to all his suits.

If you scroll down your own page, http://www.tvsquad.com/category/bones/, there are several pictures of Booth in which you can see his tie. All of them are skinny ties. But if he starts wearing parachute pants, that's just going too far.

Sorry, Hodgela fans, but besides the sugary, corny, empty "cuteness" of the swings, the actors can't sell me on it.
I tried to keep an open mind while watching, forget the fact that the characters were supposed to be crusty and cynical before this plot was forced on them.
But good as the actors are in their non-romantic scenes, they convey nothing to me when they interract. TJ is looking at Angela the same way he looks at his bugs, Angela has this constant 'come hither" smile when she's supposed to reject him - they just don't seem to express the right emothion.
As for B&B, regardless of what you scream at the TV, every scene with the two in them is pure joy.
@dorv
If you watched the series from the start there have been plenty of nods to Angel fans - from the redemption quest in the pilot, to the long coat in Woman in the Car and more little things.
"Coldness towards Angel?" tsk, tsk, tsk - you must stop getting your news from Ausiello - he'll be credible when he'll be able to tell Booth from Bones apart in reporting scoops DB gives him.(as in "whose father is Ryan O'Neal playing?)

The whole long protracted build-up between two self indulgent people is out of character. For both. The way they've been portrayed )and I loved them just fine this way), these were the kind of people that once they had a yen for each other, they would have acted on it instantly - jumped in and out of bed/liking between a bug slide and an Angelator scene. That I would have bought - and enjoyed maybe - in the same vein the corky relationships on Scrubs tend to go. There could have been cynical, merciless teasing about a failed experience keeping us entertained for seasons - and loving these too. But nooooo! They had to go the mushi way...sigh. How are they going to top the swings? Pacifiers? Rattles?

Edgeoforever: Good point, though, DB's distancing himself from Angel has been apparent from several areas. Plus, there was video (I can only take so much Ausiello at a time, but he does provide good info on the shows that he likes... for the most part... kinda... yeah, nevermind). Also, yes, there have been plenty of nods, and I love that.
I love how the TV writing/directing fraternity is pretty small, when you think of it. This week's the Nine had tons of West Wing. Josh Malina was in it, Alex Graves was an EP, and Chris Misiano directed.
