(S03E05) How fricken funny was it to have Weevil up as a show-and-tell feature for her oral report? Definitely the highlight of the season, I'd have to say. And on top of all that, Weevil goes through more of Veronica's doubting and spending more time in the cozy cell at the Neptune station. What's a guy gotta do to not seem so guilty all the time?
There always seems to be these obvious little clues that you know are going to relate to something later in the episode. For example, Weevil mentioning the renovating of the Student Union and the drywall dust on his shirt. And then there's Logan talking to some unknown hot chick by his car at night -- could that play into what will happen next week?
I like that Cliff is in the picture a bit more. And hey, let's not forget more Backup! It's about time Veronica takes her dog on more visits to bad guys' places. What better way to intimidate a guy than having a growling dog by your side?
I'm sorry, but what's with Wallace's Bobby Brady-like story? I was totally uninterested in what was going on, though I'm sure it's leading to something much bigger down the line. I'm sure we haven't seen the last of Wallace's trouble at Hearst.
Definitely more involvement with Dean O'Dell than we had with the principal of Neptune High the last two seasons. It'll be interesting to see if his experience with Keith will improve his relationship with Veronica or sour it.
A good episode for the season for sure. I admit I was starting to get scared that this season wasn't living up to its great first two seasons, but this helps me feel a bit better. It was very much in the formula we've been used to, especially the ending. What's up with the latest rape victim lying like that?
A couple of quotes of the episode:
Dean O'Dell: "Veronica, have you met my wife?"
Veronica: "Nope. Has your wife met the hot chick?"
Lamb: "Good job JV, Varsity's taking the field now. We've got it from here."

Given that the majority of high school and college students have admitted to cheating at some time or another, you'd think the ones on TV would be better at it. For instance, you don't hand in your test early with a smug look on your face, presumably with perfect answers. You blend in with all the other students at the end, look worried, and drop your paper in the middle of the pile, complete with a couple of obvious mistakes.
On the other hand, how come this college doesn't have any real tutors for students who aren't doing well in a class? If the only choice is between cheating and failing, what else are they going to do? (Either way, Wallace sure doesn't seem to have much talent for his chosen field of mechanical engineering.... I'd hate to find myself driving across a bridge he built during a stiff wind.)

Have Wallace and Veronica been in a scene together since the first episode? Despite his storyline being weak tonight, I like the idea of Wallace getting his own storylines, but c'mon, they're friends, shouldn't we a little interaction between them?
Overall a good episode but the season as whole feels a little off. And next weeks previews scare me. Hopefully the previews were meant to get the GG audience, because an entire episode dealing with realtionship drama scares me. But I have faith in rob thomas. Still love the show and i'm enjoying this season.

Jeff, the season feels off because the characters are so distant from the mystery. What the past two seasons, and especially the first one, did well was connect the mystery and V's relationships with the other characters. Watching V grill Weevil this week reminded me of the good old days of the series. As we learned more about the supporting characters, we began to connect with them. When they became suspects in V's view, we had that OMG moment. The mystery doesn't matter to us this year because we don't care/don't know the suspects. I don't think any of us cared if unknown frat guy or Waterloo dude was the rapist. While Dick was considered a suspect, it didn't even last until the end of the episode. Rob needs to find a way back to his season 1 days, when he was able to write a compelling mystery with good developed suspects.

Another amazing epoisode!! I would like to see more of Veronica and Weevil. They have a great love / hate chemistry that just pops when they are on screen.
And what about Richard Grieco's appearance! There's a guy that had it all and then vanished. I remember when he was the hot young thing from '21 Jump Street' and his co-star was just an unknown actor. I wonder whatever happened to Johnny Deep?!

The show needs more Mac + Veronica interaction. Or at least Veronica + anyone other than Logan interaction. I just dont get that relationship.

i liked this episode a lot. It did bring back that feel of the 1st season. When she first accused Weevil, i thought he was my first guess too. But i felt kinda bad. Give the guy a break right? And then, once I saw that little girl chewing her gum i totally wanted to kick her ass. Which usually indicates to me that she has something to do with the crime. It must have felt good for veronica to take lilly's necklace off of that girl! as for logan and veronica, i feel like that relationship was sort of forced. They only made it happen because so many people wanted it to happen, maybe? It was nice how in season 1 it was a bit of a surpise when they got together. I think i like it better when they hate eachother.

The Adrian Monk referance made me laugh. A lot. Anyone have any idea what Veronica and Logan were dressed as? For the life of me I could not figure it out.

My favorite line was Lamb saying to Logan over the car speaker 'hey good looking, we'll be back to pick you up later!' That was priceless.
This episode was old Veronica Mars. You couldn't totally figure it out, small one episode crime and still moving along the longer more drawn out crime. I also loved it when Veronica was interacting with the stage actors and did the 'I'll be here all week!' line.
Now I was wondering if Wallace didn't write something on his test book instead of the answers. Something like "why don't you really teach this class instead of making it easy for someone to cheat to get through your class?" Or even just an explanation of how he got all the answers etc. I just don't see Wallace as being a dumb cheater.

I agree--I don't think Wallace used the test answers. I think he wrote "So-and-so has been selling the answers to your test," which would explain the inquisitive look the professor cast at the first page of the exam and then after Wallace.
I disagree that we've had more Dean O'Dell than we had of Principal Clemmons, though. We saw lots of Clemmons/Veronica interaction the first two years, we saw Clemmons use Veronica to get from Vice-Principal to Principal, we saw Clemmons home and his relationship with his son...there was quite a lot.
And Clemmons was infinitely more interesting a character than O'Dell, who's far more boring than I would have expected Ed Begley jr to be.

I don't see how what Wallace did was cheating. If the professor is lazy enough to continue to use the same test, he shouldn't be surprised if word gets around. Even selling the answers isn't cheating since the seller didn't guarantee -- or, presumably, know -- that the same test would be used for Wallace's class.
When I was in college, all the clubs and organizations had file cabinets of old tests arranged by class or professor. And you could use them as study guides for free.
Do I have to give my diploma back now?

Tess, I agree. I don't understand why people are thinking he is cheating. Another good episode, but that point really annoyed me for some reason. It would only be cheating if the test was stolen, but that doesn't seem to be the case. If a professor didn't want people to use the old tests, he should have kept them at the end of the test.

Well they did say that Wallace and Mac play a HUGE role in the other mysteries later in the season, so maybe that's setting the mood or something. Personally I loved this episode, and like someone else said, it brings us back to the old Veronica Mars we know and love! Not to mention the stellar one liners! My favorite, when Lamb was telling Cliff he's seen Cliff's ads around town: "I saw your ad on the park benches. Call Cliff and get off." That had me dying! LOL
