(S01E06) What a minute. Did all this stuff actually happen in only one episode? I don't know where to start. Even Isaac, the mopey artist, seems to be charged-up and awake. Maybe he feels a little better now that he's seen Peter manifest paint-the-future powers of his own, and thinks he is not so crazy after all.
Just when you think Horn-Rim Glasses Guy might actually be okay, and that evil is just his day job, he sets up daughter Claire to meet her "bio-parents." I guess there's no good reason to call him Horn Rim and not Mr. Ben net, or even "Claire's dad." But HRGG is more fun, and sounds more mysterious. As he truly does love and worry about Claire, he makes a great complex villain.
The reunion turns out to be just an act. Or is it? I thought I detected a look of regret, or concern, on the woman pretending to be Claire's birth-mom, when HRGG congratulates the couple on a deception-well-done, afterward in the driveway. I think we will see more of this woman since she's played by the somewhat well-known Karri Turner of JAG. The deception doesn't hold anyway, as Claire's adopted Mom, who appears less heavily-medicated tonight than previously, mentions a slight chromosome problem Claire had at birth. Oops.
Now we know why Eden, the "antique-bookstore clerk" and Brooklyn neighbor of the Suresh's, was so comfortable handling a gun when she first met Mohinder. I absolutely did not see this twist coming, but I imagine a lot of viewers did. Eden's banter back and forth on the phone with Horn-Rims was pretty good: she casually brings him up to speed on all the new superheroes she's gathered intel on. "Cool," comments HRGG. At least it's cool until he hears the bit about saving the cheerleader.
I'm still annoyed with Mohinder, especially his flat-out dismissal of Peter's story last week, not to mention his leaden voice-overs. No, I take that back. Mohinder's closing voice-over tonight seemed especially relevant, as it played over Niki, who's sprawled out on the carpet after losing the battle with DL: "Evolution is an imperfect and often violent process. Morality loses its meaning. The question of good and evil reduced to one simple choice: survive or perish."
The Bennet's of Odessa Texas, and the Petrelli Brothers of New York, now have to take a back seat: Niki's family is definitely demonstrating the most twisted dynamics at this point. Ripping apart gangsters and "bitch-ass" poker-players is one thing, but framing D.L. and sending him to prison? That's cold. D.L.'s a good dad to Micah it seems. Mirror-twin finally picks this time to reveal herself and speak directly to Niki and she unloads quite a tale. Why does Mirror Twin want to keep D.L. away from Micah so much that she'd frame him to do it?
I'm glad Ando will be sticking around. One of my favorite lighter scenes this week is when Hiro, in the middle of making light-saber noises, explains the nature of a "hero's quest" to his friend, saying: "You don't have to have powers to be a hero." Present Hiro's smart enough, by the way, to know why Future Hiro, needed to be cryptic and go through Peter to deliver his message. It's refreshing when characters on a show are as smart as the audience. Who better than a comics and sci-fi fan to understand the delicacy of the time-space continuum?

It was hard not suspecting that something was up with Eden--she has a great, but complex, part in the movie "Brick"...

OK Michael time to start paying attention. when the next door neighbor in a rundown building just happens to be a cute pixie haired girl really interested in a scientist, time to call BS. The fact that she also has one of the only fake sounding names on the show "Eden" is another clue. I guessed it on FJZ three weeks ago.
And I totally disagree with you, I thought the episode was one of the worst yet with very little meat to it. Everything seemed drawn out especially the Claire stuff. They could have skipped the entire bio-parents and just had her mom blurt it out while making cupcakes. Would have saved us about 20 minutes. we already know HRGG is bad. By the way the official character name for him is Horn Rim Glasses but I recently stumbled on who will play Sylar...and it ain't him.

So Nikki and DL had a kid and DL has a superpower... so is Micah the uberHero? Does evil Nikki (with the bad hero tattoo) want the kid for the bad guys? This is fun.

We had the closed captioning on the show last night, and I was delighted to see Claire's dad referred to (on the closed captioning) as H.R.G.

I have a theory about Peter... I think his "power" is that he can temporarily acquire another super power if he is near it. ie. he was with his brother who can fly when he sorta flew. And he was with Isaac when he painted the future. Maybe when he gets with the cheerleader, he will be invincible.
I'm not sure what Niki's "power" is at this point. She has split personalities. Big deal? Or is it that her alter ego knows the future and is telling her what she should do in present day? But then again, why is she framing her seemingly innocent husband?

Got to agree with Dave T. This episode was just dull. I do still really like the show, but this one was just dull from start to finish. What are we now... 6 episodes in? Have any of the 'heroes' done anything vaguely heroic yet? All we keep hearing is 'save the cheerleader' with very little progress. The show has got to start moving along soon or people are going to begin losing interest.......

This show has the overall feel of the comic Rising Stars. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rising_Stars I like the show so far, it's creative and they've been revealing just enough information each week to make it interesting. Having read that comic, and X-Men for years though it seems a bit more generic and not as stand out as NBC would like.

#5 Tara - "I have a theory about Peter... "
I don't think it's a theory since in the last episode (s01e05) Peter already said, whenever hes around someone he can tap into their power.
Now to throw out a theory of my own even if someone mentioned this already, I think Horned Rim Glasses Guy is a good guy, the tricky writers are setting him up in suspicious and ambiguous situations, but never actually showing him kill anyone, the fat telepath cop seemed fine except for headaches after being kidnapped, and I believe after hearing "save the cheerleader" his reaction was more of shock knowing his daughter would be in danger, maybe pointing the gun at the flying politian seems evil, but (going off in a direction with no basis of facts) i think hes gonna end up beign some government agent profiling all the heroes and trying to find syler (cyler, cylar? whatever..)
speculating is fun!

I think HRGG is more a shade of gray. Sylar is the bad guy ... I wouldn't be surprised if HRGG is part of an organization that wants to *use* the Heroes for their agenda (e.g., truth, justice, the american way ... at least as they perceive it).
At first I thought HRGG is bad, but last week's episode should have made it clear that he's protective of his daughter (adopted or not).

Tara, where have you been? It's been pretty obvious (since the second or third episode) that Peter's special power is acquiring other heroes' powers that he is near. On Nikki's split peronality thing, I think it's more than that. After the first episode, I too thought it seemed like all she had was a split personality. But it's pretty clear that she has super strength (and maybe faster than the average person), whether it's just her twin that has it or only her twin who knows how to "tap into it" I'm still not sure.

yes, this ep was slow, but of all the shows on TV right now, it's the only one I want to watch a second time, just to make sure I've caught everything.
The last time that I noticed watching a show twice on purpose was during the first season of LOST.

Another great episode (though I'm disappointed that this week's and last week's cliffhangers haven't been as "OMG! WTF!" as before. Loved that we finally got our first superpowered fight between Nikki and D.L. Hiro was great as always, both with the dramatic part when he fails to save some people and his brilliant reaction to finding out his future self has a sword. A reference to Hiro was also the funniest moment of the episode.
Eden: "He claims to have made contact with someone who can stop time."
Horn Rimmed Glasses: "Really? That's cool!"

So is Nikki dead, or is one of her personnae dead? That was sweet, the whole hand in the chest thing. When Isaac was finishing the painting, it revealed that the unconscious body was that of Evil Nikki; is that to suggest that if she wakes up, Evil Nikki will be in complete control? I could also see why they'd kill her off, setting DL up as a hero who has to overcome some tricky obstacles (already set in place) to make sure his son is safe. But then again, he 'fisted' her out of rage that she stole from him and set him up, not because he thought she would endanger the kid. So there's unfinished business there and an interesting twist on the timeless child-of-divorce TV conflict. I could see it going in any direction from here: Nikki passed out, Nikki dead, or Nikki only evil.

I hate my TIVO!
NBC ran the episode long, without warning!
What happened after the girl arrived at Issac's place?
This normally wouldn't have been a problem because I record Studio 60 and it would have carried over. But I'd rather watch real football than drama HS angst football.

I don't thing HRGG is necessarily as bad a guy as we've been made to assume, either. And he's clearly very protective of his daughter in a non-calculating, emotional way. The look on his face when he heard Eden say "Save the cheerleader" on the phone was just like when he confronted Jock the Rapist last week--he's a caring, protective dad at those moments.
I'm not even convinced that Sylar is a big villain. Yes, he cuts off people's heads and eats their brains, but he's really conflicted about it. I mean, he had that room full of "I'm a sinner" and "forgive me" all over it. No, the only flat-out bad-ass we've seen so far, frankly, is ikiN (as she's called at TWoP). I wouldn't put it past her to be the one bombing NYC.

Count me in for the 'Mr Bennet isn't evil' camp - my guess is he's doing whatever it is he's doing to protect Claire from Sylar (or whatever Sylar represents or he thinks he represents). It could be that he works for some government agency that's dealing with the various heroes, and he doesn't want them to know his daughter is one of them.
