(S10E08) The race has now split into two factions. An alliance and three teams who are only out for themselves. It's an interesting switch for the race which has primarily been an alliance-free zone in the past, depending more on achievement than group strategy. So far, I would say it's not exactly a sucessful idea but I am not sure if that is the idea of an alliance or the members involved in this alliance that is proving problematic.Mary and David swear they are part of a "six-pack" alliance with the Cho brothers and Lyn and Karlyn but the Alabama ladies are playing a more cutthroat game. Lyn and Karlyn seem to be part of the alliance only when it suits them.
Heading from Kuwait to Mauritius isn't as easy as it sounds. It involves multiple flights and strategy which leads to a bit of airport fracas. The Beauty Queens decided to try and help Tyler and James at the airport if only to aggravate Lyn and Karlyn.
Tyler and James think that the Chos are bonding with the weaker teams in order to take weaker teams to the final 3. This time Tyler and James become one of those fighting couples. I know they aren't dating but like last season's ambiguously gay Eric and Jeremy there's something a bit coupled-off about these two.
The other three teams form a loose alliance but it never seems to take and at the first opportunity Dustin and Kandice ditch the other teams. Rob and Kimberley hit a snag when their car stalls out but Dustin and Kandice actually hit another car. Amazingly this doesn't seems to slow them down much. I wonder if the situation would have been different if it wasn't a beautiful blonde behind the wheel.
The Detour involves either digging through salt for a salt shaker or looking for sails on an island. The salt challenge proves problematic for a lot of teams who opt to switch. I'm not sure what about this task is so challenging but the teams all opt out which creates serious snags for most teams. Once again when she gets stressed Mary starts yelling at the hapless David (although admittedly, he's not a great decision maker). They wait and wait and hem and haw and then finally opt for the island challenge. The six pack once again becomes the back pack as they scramble around the island. Dustin and Kandice have a grand time hectoring the other teams as they pass them on the way out to the island.
Dustin and Kandice are team number one with the other two non-allied teams trailing behind. The six-pack all struggling in later. David and Mary come in last and are once again "marked for elimination" and need to arrive first or face a 30 minute penalty. Now I love David and Mary but I think they really need to go home soon because it is starting to look like the game is rigged.

I was shocked that they were not elimiated again, but in a way that makes me think that it is completely random because the producers would never manke it THAT obvious...would they? LOL!
As endearing as David and Mary and Cho Brothers are, they are very niave. The fact that they "wait on" their fellow alliance members when Karlyn and Lyn have no intentions on ever waiting for them, tell me that their alliance will ultimately be their downfall in the end.

I think rules on contests like this are pretty strict, and the rules, if they are not spelled out in advance, have to at least be decided in advance, and probably notarized or something.
David and Mary are pretty fun to have on the show, but I really doubt Amazong Race would make a game0time decision to keep them twice.

I'm curious to see what the "intersection" teased for next week is... looks like maybe teams have to pair up for a challenge?

I have to say that this business of alliances in this game may be one of the great innovations - worthy of Rob Mariano himself - if it works. There have been alliances before but they've been highly transitory, along the lines of "we'll help you with the directions for this stage but once we reach the task it's every man and woman for themselves." In theory, if you can go into the final three with two weaker teams - and Lyn & Karlyn and David & Mary would qualify - it increases your chance of winning significantly. It's really a question of whether you want to go up against the best or "assure" yourself of a win.
