(S03E06) An epiosde all about horse racing. Makes sense since there's about a million different math related stories that could be pulled from the science of picking the right horse. Some people like Alan "The Rail Bird" Eppes just get it. Charlie, on the other hand, doesn't and when a young man is stabbed to death during a race... I could make a really bad "there's no time for horsing around" or an "all bets are off" comment but I'll restrain myself. Suffice to say that everyone is jockeying to find out whodunnit first. Sorry, couldn't resist. No more bad puns, I promise. So this guy, stabbed, no longer living? He'd been placing bets and winning like crazy. He and his math-wiz girlfriend had developed an equation to single out horses that statistically were second place horses. But second place horses often win too. And our victim had been winning a lot, including a Pick-6 gamble that netted him half a million. Now unknown to him, a drug cartel had a hand in the track ownership and they had been fixing races. They'd hire out of work immigrants to make Pick-6 bets, they'd win, and then be killed so that the winnings could be funneled into the drug money. Our kid was working on his own when he made his Pick-6 bet on an online gambling site and it cost him his life.
Now beyond the case, love was once again in the air for Don and Larry. Aya Sumika has joined the cast on a recurring basis as Special Agent Liz Warner. Don knew her from when he was one of her instructors at Quantico. So there seems to be some of that student/teacher flirtation going on and I think it's safe to assume something will happen between them. The writers have to do something because Don keeps talking about Robin but we never see her.
Larry and Megan made some progress too. They now have a regimented dating schedule with pre-set days and events because Larry likes structure. It seems to be serious between them. Very Beauty and the Geek though. Loved the end when Megan said they should get breakfast in the morning, implying she'd like to spend the night with him. Wonder if that happened?
Final thought? Where was David? I hate it when a main character in a procedural show is gone for no apparent reason. On a show like Lost or 24 or Heroes, you can go an episode or two without seeing someone and that's fine because the story dictates it. But there was no reason for David to not be in this episode and it's sloppy writing to not even stick one line in explaining why. I can't be the only one who gets bugged by that though, right?

I think this show has finally pulled it all together. The plots are interesting (sometimes over my head with the math), the characters have exposed their histories and we want happiness for all of them. I hope Don gets a little more involved, as all he does is work. And Allen needs to find someone, too. This show has come a long way, and I really look forward to it. So where was Amita?

Numbers is loosing ground. What was once interesting ideas now are only boring and sometimes impossible plot points.
Case in point, Longshot. It is just as impossible to pick 32 horses to come in second as it is to pick 32 winners. No matter the betting scheme, it is just not possible.
All in all, it was a stupid show, if they don't get their act together, it will fade into the mist of tv shows that can't get their act together

I noticed that David was gone too and it really annoyed me, I kept thinking that they were going to say he's off on special assignment or something. Also Aniti wasn't in this episode either, so ya they really are bad about losing track of characters.
But anyway I really have been enjoying the last 2 weeks of numb3rs, I have been watching it since it began and I was start to feel like the use of Charlie's math was too out there. They didn't seem to be justifying it well enough, but the last 2 week's storylines have been really good situations where I could see them needed the math even if Charlie wasn't involved, that's the key.
Also as for poor Don, or I should say the poor actresses that play his love interests, does anyone remember the DA played by Sarah Carter, ya I mean I can't even remember her name and I have liked Sarah Carter since she first appeared in Smallville, oh well. But the writers have this nasty habit of showing a character once or twice setting up a possibility for Don and then just forgetting about that character and never mentioning them again.

The actress who plays Megan is pregnant. Not sure if they are writing it into the story line or not but if they are, she needs to hook up with someone soon to explain it.
