As usual with YouTube when you are looking for one video, you end up finding another video that peaks your interest. And then another, and another, and soon the dawn of the next day comes around.
Thus was my situation. I was about to do a post on the Japanese anime classic Star Blazers when I found a more interesting piece of video that contained the opening introductions to a number of syndicated cartoons of the 1980's. And, even though I think that many Saturday morning cartoons of that era were pretty weak, I feel that this was when syndicated action cartoons reached their glory. I mean, who doesn't remember cartoons like Thundercats, M.A.S.K., or Voltron.
So, take a look at the video that appears after the jump and see if you can remember all of the cartoons shown. If you can, please let me know the name of the second cartoon shown in the video, as well as if one of the versions of Voltron is shown as well.

J. Michael Straczynski, who went on to create BABYLON 5, wrote a number of Jayce eps and actually did the script for a feature-length film that would have tied up the storyline. Sadly, it was never produced, and rights issues mean it won't be posted online.
Jayce was awesome because it had 900 SF and fantasy concepts CRAMMED into one show! Where else could you find a hero with his own tank, a magic ring AND a "magic root?" With a wise old wizard AND a nervous living-armor "squire?" With a Han Solo-knockoff sidekick AND a cute little sister grown from a plant with a giant flying fish AND a couple of cute little robo-doggies? Who fought evil plant-tanks who traveled the universe in space-vines? WHERE ELSE, I ask you?
The best semi-obscure 80s show, in my opinion, was another Straczynski worked on, CAPTAIN POWER AND THE SOLDIERS OF THE FUTURE. Great SF show, some cheesy costumes, but with really dark stories and continuing storylines. Man, I'd love to have this on legit DVD!

Captain Power was originally a video series that came with toy spaceships you could use to shoot at special flashing targets on the screen. It was like a mix of cartoon and video game. The TV series also had these special flashing targets that worked with the spaceships, so you could play along with the show. We had those ships and videos growing up, they were fun.

I don't see any Voltron either. I think the last one is Ulysses 31, in case anybody was wondering. Forgot about that one!

M.A.S.K. was the shit when I was little. I almost bought the whole M.A.S.K. toy collection from eBay a few years ago just for the hell of it. Man, I wish I knew what happened to my Thunderhawk.

Oh man, what about Galaxy Rangers? And I'd definitely put Robotech in the list and Silverhawks. It's a shame the staples didn't make it (Transformers, G.I. Joe). What about Jem (kidding)?
