(S03E05) Finally, we're back on Galactica for good ... or at least it seems that way. The episode wastes no time getting right into the thick of things, showing us why it's titled 'Collaborators'. You can tell Tigh doesn't exactly feel comfortable with the methods used to deal with those who they feel betrayed the human race on New Caprica, and Chief feels even more opposed, though still only really in the back of his mind. Everyone just wants to see someone get hurt back for what happened.
You can't help but feel for Jammer right away. I mean, we know a lot more about him than the others do. We know for a fact that he let Callie go, but the others are only able to take Jammer's word with a grain of salt and wonder if that much is even worth his life. You just want to reach into the TV and yell "Jammer really let Cally go!" But instead we have to sit and watch it all play out before us.
Oh, and just because Jammer's spacebound doesn't mean he can't still be a Cylon. I'm just sayin'.
What I'd actually like to know is how Chief and the others knew who was on the police force. Who blabbed? Why didn't they know earlier? I can only imagine that they found just one guilty person, then made that person give up the others before doing him in.
I love the dream Baltar had. I will admit there was an initial shock at that scene but then it became obvious very quickly that this was all a dream before Baltar even realizes it himself.
Someone got it 100% right in a previous comment, that Roslin would eventually get the presidency pretty much handed to her by Zarek. So did Zarek really take a turn for the better while on New Caprica?
So it seems there are definitely seven Cylon models there on the ships with Baltar, as the Number Three model tells him. So, where are the other models? I guess this seems to say it's very possible that the others are true sleeper agents, ones even the Cylon models we know don't know about.
What I said about Jammer earlier pales in comparison to what we see of Gaeta. Starbuck stands there knowing all about what, to her, is some weird dog bowl speech. All she'd need to do is just make one mention of it and everything would be known. And just as Chief is almost out of earshot, she does, and just in the nick of time. The look on Chief's face of how close they were to killing someone who's basically a hero tells it all.
And the closing scene is priceless.
(By the way, this is off the subject of this episode and maybe this is well known info., but did you know that Will of Nobody's Watching is the same person who played Billy Keikeya in season one, Paul Campbell? I knew he looked familiar!)

I assumed that the president had a list of everyone who was working for the government/police and they are going on evidence based on what they found in the government records.
Who was Jammer? I don't really remember him being a character until this season. I don't think saving Cally was an excuse to save him anyway. Just because Ellen became a traitor to save her husband doesn't excuse her from being a traitor. Just because Jammer saved one person (who really wasn't that important to humanity as a whole, unlike the things Gaeta did to help) doesn't change the things he did do.

So it is him! I thought it was Billy. And he played Billy in season 2 too.
It was a good episode showing how everyone is still very messed up from the whole thing.
Jammer was a secondary charater that worked with Chief. They made booze together in one episode. He's been in a few. Sad to see him go, but it needed to be done.
So who do you think will die next? They are running out of secorday charaters to kill.

Oh and by the way, this is the last episode I got to see ahead of time. Now I'm riding along with the rest of you, which means later reviews from now on.

Colonial One is back as part of the fleet so I suspect there was a good amount of paperwork left on board during the confusion which implicated certain people.
You could see how conflicted Chief was with Jammer's sentence. I know just how he felt cause I didn't want to see Jammer go either, but he kinda deserved it.
You can see Starbuck's coming descent into a really dark place. I'd hate to be a cylon in her gun sites when she gets back into the cockpit of a viper.

You think Adama will let her in a Viper? She will be shooting down other ships just to kill the "Collaborators".

Jammer has been a minor character for some time, but was featured prominently in he the webisodes which were on scifi.com over the summer.
I hate to see Starbuck heading down such a dark path, but I'm happy to see that she's going to cut off those ridiculous extensions! While I'm at it, damn you Ron Moore for making me feel bad for Anders!
Am I the only one who hates Cally? She vaguely remembers someone saving her from a firing squad? It was too late to save Jammer anyway, but what a boob.

To answer a earlier comment about how they know who was part of the new caprica police force... if I remember correctly, in the season premiere, there was a mention that they had evidence about such-and-such a number of people out of the total number that had joined the new caprica police. They could have gotten Jammer's name from there, but something tells me that if that doesn't explain it, then simple, conventional intelligence gathering from "anonymous sources" helped.
There can be no doubt, this is the best drama on television.

Didn't the accusations against Jammer contradict what was seen in the webepisodes?
They used the temple massacre as an example of his crimes. The massacre happend BEFORE Jammer joined the NCP. Or did they just use that as am excuse?

A good episode, with a necessary story for the series to maintain its integrity. What I am truly interested in seeing is how the command structure of the Galactica will be shuffled around. Is Tigh truly the XO even though Apollo outranks him? What function will Dee & Helo serve now that they aren't acting XOs?
The other thing that's nagging me is whether there are more people on Galactica now? We saw glimpses of the crowded conditions. Does this mean that there are in fact civilians living on Galactica as well? Other than Cloud Nine are there any other noteable ships missing from the fleet? And one more thing ... was tonight the end for Samuel T. Anders? I'm hoping that he gets a commission. He proved his worth on Caprica & New Caprica as well. It would be great to see him in a Colonial uniform. Maybe as Sgt. At Arms? We'll have to see. I'm still riding high off of "The Adama Manuever" from last week's ep. Which by the way, had me in such an emotional state that was only been rivaled by Serenity.

A couple notes:
-Did anyone else really feel for Jammer? It made me feel sick just thinking about it. I thought they did a good job of making the audience feel like Tyrol.
-Tigh. He looked weird without the beard and longer hair. He is in a really bad place mentally.
-Not a surprise, but seeing a resurrection ship with the Cylon fleet was a nice touch.
-Poor Galactica. Everytime they showed an exterior shot, I just thought about how it looks like it got the crap beat out of it, which it did. Really glad that is not magically going away.
-I really think it would have been cool to see Zarek as President, at least for this season. It just seemed very unlike this show to see Roslin returned to the presidency so quickly.
-Kara. Damn. She is just doomed to not be happy. And in a really dark place.
-Not sure how they are going to deal with Anders, but I'm really glad he wasn't killed off, and I hope he stays around. I think regular minor characters is one of the best parts of this show.
-Oh, and Baltar on a basestar is frackin' awesome!

Unbelievable episode.
I can't get over how tense I get watching Battlestar Galactica. Seriously, how many other tv shows give you a truly visceral reaction as you're watching it? I can feel my blood pressure getting higher and higher as the episode gets crazier and crazier. And when the credits roll I finally feel like I can relax.
Damn this is a great start to season 3. So say we all...

It was definitely tense, but I don't understand one thing....why didn't Gaeta ever mention to the chief, Sol or Anders anything about his being the inside source? There's no point in it being a secret anymore. And I'm sure Gaeta had an idea about who was running the insurgency. Surely he knew that the tips were being used by one of them?
I guess they just wanted to make it more dramatic.

First: Am I the only one that doesn't give a frak about Baltar's storyline anymore? I mean, seriously, PLEASE give me a reason to care.
Second: Gail: I don't know if you're the only one who doesn't hate Cally, but I sure don't. Though, to be frank, not remembering that someone had set you free three days before is pretty odd. Its not like they've had anything else going on since then... Oh... Wait... Nevermind :)
3rd: Keith: I completely disagree with your charaterization of Tigh as being uncomfortable with the issues at hand. In fact, I think he was the one member of the circle that had complete understanding of the importance of how being "right" in their votes would eventually give them justifcation in their actions. He'd sacraficed more than anyone in that group, because knowing that you have to kill a loved one has to be a bigger loss than having one taken (by death).
I thought this show was just as badass as Exodus II, but for entirely different reasons. For probably the first time, I've disagreed with Roslin, and I don't like her characterization... She'll throw a Cylon out the airlock with no equivcation, but not those that collaborated? What kind of weak bullcrap is that? Leading me to...
Tom Zarek (badass extrodinaire) is right. These people need to be dealth with quickly and quietly. A six person jury requiring unanimity is just. These were crimes against humanity. I think though, in Gaeta's case that the Chief blanched and caved to 'popular' opinion when he shouldn't have, and that was a clearer arguement against my opinion than the speach Roslin gave at the end.
I like "Dark Kara" over "Hugs and Kisses Kara" or "Drunk Kara" any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Anders is probably out the door, but I'd like to see him as a recurring character. Someone posted right, BSG shines with the way it handles, rights, and casts recurring actors.
No Dualla! Best part of the episode.
No _______.... Wait... Don't want to get attacked by Tim-1.
Nick: Come on... When you bring the comments to this board, you've gotta bring your A-Game... J/K... But Jammer's character, and existance on the show prior to this year, has already been commented on in this thread. I would add that during the Cylon attack on the Galatica, he was the lone human spared in the run on the Small Arms Locker, lending to the Jammer=Cylon arguement.
I'm with those that assume that there was evidence on board Colonial One indicating that Jammer was a member of NCP.
Leave it to my friend Akbar to nitpick a continuity issue to death :)... If you'll remember, this is where we went off the rails in Firefly threads.
Double: I hope that the show continues to deal with that. I don't think Galatica was built with families in mind. I think they have an opportunity here to make a(nother) subtle comparison to ST:TNG.
Natrino: I think it was perfectly realistic the way the dealt with Zarek/Roslin, especially considering later his involvement with the Circle, and allowing her presidency to be unmarred. Roslin had the unquestioned support of the people and the military after New Caprica.
Paul: I too noticed the small change in the credits. The bit about searching for Earth had changed during the occupation episodes to 'Fight to Survive' or something... Its nice that they've changed that back, as hopefully (and apparently, through the previews) the search for Earth will play prominently in the future.

Ditto that LC. Another fun comment by Adamma in Baltars dream scene: "You wouldn't like her when she's angry" (line from "The incredible Hulk". Great episode but a bummer that my favorite actress wasn't in it.
Dorv: It is good to hear your comments, you wonderful man. (No, I am not being sarcastic...just trying to lighten things up.)

Don't we already know of seven models?
Baltar's Blonde
Boomer
The Public Relations guy discovered on Galactica
Dean Stockwell's character
The doctor who was experimenting on Starbuck
Linda Lovelace's character
Starbuck's captor on New Caprica
It's possible there are other models that are not members of the ruling council.

Dorv -- Tigh did say at one point: "You think I like this?! Well I don't!" Something along those lines. So yeah, I think he hates that he has to do it this way, whereas that what's-his-name guy who lost his son (sorry I'm in a fog right now) was giddy at the thought.
