(S04E05) (This is an early review courtesy of the Adult Swim Fix) Not bad, but not great either. Despite last week's toilet-humor themed episode ("Dickesode"), I liked it. Laughed hysterically, over and over again. I thought "Handbanana," by comparison was flat. There weren't too many funny lines, the story itself wasn't anything special, and there wasn't enough Shake. Plus, I'm starting to get a little tired of the "something terrible happens to Carl" episodes and this was one of the many. What else could they possibly do to this guy?
Carl has been decapitated, turned into a walking pile of eyeballs, and he's been shot in the foot. He's been annihilated by an army of robotic turkeys with laser socks and his house has been destroyed too many times to count. And now he's been raped by a dog.
Where'd the dog come from? Meatwad wanted a pet. So Frylock grabbed his "Make Your Own Dog 1.0" software and that's exactly what they did with some nuclear waste and Shake's DNA. For those who missed that part, that's why the dog looks just like Shake's hand. The only problem is that Handbanana (Meatwad picked the name) has developed quite the liking to Carl and he mounts Carl from the backside whenever he gets the chance. To combat it, Carl made his own dog to fight off Handbanana. But Spaghetti (great name for a pet) realized he had a lot in common with Carl and decided to rape him too.
There were a few funny moments, like when Shake suggested naming the dog Thunder Pussy or when Carl decided he wanted to suntan naked in his back-yard. But overall, it wasn't a laugh out loud episode. I did, however, get extremely excited when we saw Carl's Bill Parcells TUNA poster in his living room. Is that new? I don't remember seeing it before.
Ehh, yeah, kind of disappointed with this episode. Despite the large amount of negative comments I read about "Dickesode," I think this is the episode that deserves them. What did everyone else think?

i have always loved athf but this episode made me sick to my stomach. it was expecting to have a great time and instead i could barely watch it. i do not think that rape is funny and especially male on male.if the first show i watched was like this one then i would'nt have watched anymore. absolutely disgusting!!! trust me i have a very weird,morbid etc... sense of humour but this show pissed me off.

I wrote this up tonight. I think you're being too charitable, Jonathon. Handbanana was cool, but the episode itself was lame. The joke was repetitive, and the episode didn't flow. Disappointing.

I'm surprised by these comments. Compared to the movie special last year, I thought this episode was tame. Which is worse: rape by dog or rape by broomstick?
As a knitgeek, my favorite part was the video game Meatwad and Shake were playing. "You cut my purl!" (Whatever that means.) And there also was a Moral Orel commercial with the mother 'knitting' (LOL - the mechanics of the craft is obviously lost on animators!) and chanting "yarn, yarn.." Who knew Adult Swim was so crafty? :-)

aqua teen is great but is this episode and the befor it were just not what i would expect from the makers of aqua teen. it just didnt have the aqua teen feel to it like the years past. to me its just not going to be worth watching the rest of them if this is the type of material that there going. im not saying that its bad stuff im just saying that its not the same as it used to be in there previous work.

never said rape was a good thing but getting raped up the butt from a dog i would think is a little worse no matter what you say, unless YOU like it up the butt. i think there are better things they can have a show about and i am not a flower girl and i hate cspan. i can be a athf fan and still hate this episode.

wow...i'm shocked. this show is consistently funny and absurd and i think that this episode (and to a lesser extend dickesode) were definitely two of the funniest episodes of this show so far.

This was probably one of the funniest episodes I've seen in a long time. The rape thing came out of nowhere and that's what made it so funny. One minute the dog is playing with meatwad, the next he slams the door to Carl's house saying "Oh no, we're done talking" and next thing you know the dog is raping him. While being raped is not funny, being raped by a dog named HandBanana is and if you can't hace a sense of humor to recognize the hilarity in this then wow. Also, Dicksode sucked cock compared to this one.

i have all four seasons of Aqua Teen on DVD i love every episode, minus the MCpeepant/Sir Lion/C-Bag cuz they are all the same episode, the concept of the same exact episode 4 times is great, but this new season is VERY disappointing
the only funny part of HandBanana is IMMEDIATELY after carl's dog is made it saysd "Name me Spaghetti(sp.)" cracked me up, the rest of the episode is lame, and there was two more episode, the one after handbanana is one about frylock maybe hanving cancer... tahts not funny, and the new one tonight, was back to how it used to be, but not as many good quotes
Aqua teen needs more shake hating meatwad, and less new characters, and mayybe another mooninites episode

Okay, so it did cross the line with the whole rape gag. But ATHF was never 'friendly' on the terms that it was wholesome and stuff. This episode was dirty, but awesome. And it shocked. The shock value is sometimes what we all need. Handbanana not only was a rapist he EMBODIED the creepiest rapist you could possibly think of. Rape is not funny, sure yeah. But don't get so bent over it. Hell, I feel bad now.

The scope of your review is pretty limited, since you only seem to appreciate an episode when Shake is in it...ATHF, or any show with many characters for that matter, is about more than just the reactions of one particular character. There's also something called the plot, and in that department, this episode was one of the funniest I've seen, if not THE funniest. It's amazing how many improbable and ridiculous scenarios the writers can pile one on top of the other and still have the episode make sense. The character reactions are hilarious too, but are a part of a larger whole. Sometimes, on the bus, I almost start laughing out loud when I think of handbanana's threats and Carl's reactions...Oh man, it's amazing...

In your quest to see Shake non-stop and nothing else, you're missing out on some good stuff...What makes this episode hilarious is that it consists of ludicrous, improbable and impossible scenarios stacked one on top of the other. It's so funny to see how far the writers can take an episode like this and still have it make some kind of sense...The characters, Shake included, are all funny in and of themselves, but don't forget that ATHF is as much about the situations they find themselves in as about how they react to them.
