Darrell Hammond, the longest-running cast member ever on Saturday Night Live, is finally getting his own highlights episode. The Best of Darrell Hammond will air on Saturday, November 4th, ahead of Tuesday's primary elections. SNL will honor Hammond's years of political impressions, he is perhaps best known for his impressions of Dick Cheney, Bill Clinton, and Al Gore ("lock box"). Hammond has been on SNL for an amazing eleven years. He is the first cast member to get a retrospective while still working on the show.Besides politics, the retrospective will also include sketches where Hammond impersonates Regis Philbin, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Chris Matthews and a kick-ass Sean Connery on Celebrity Jeopardy! I'd love to see the one where he plays Richard Dreyfus auditioning for the role of C-3PO on Star Wars. It's uncanny!

So, it's going to be two weeks new episodes, one week of repeats or retrospectives, huh? I guess that the budget cuts are really taking their toll over at SNL.

2 new eps and then a rerun has nothing to do with budget cuts. It's how SNL is spacing out their episodes. They did the same thing last year.
2 eps in a row, then a compilation, then 2 new eps then a compilation then 2 new eps and then a rerun, then 3 new eps and then reruns. That gets you till december. 2 episodes at a time allow a little bit more stronger writing and the writers aren't burned out by the 3rd episode. This year, they made one mistake and that was airing the season premiere only two weeks after it's release. They should have just shown an older compilation or something. Meanwhile Darrell Hammond gets his best of special while he's still on the show. There's nothing wrong with that. I just hope they don't do a sloppy job with it and pick more recent sketches than good sketches.

I was just going to complain about the same thing.
Also, here are my thoughts on people who don't think SNL is "funny anymore": You can't compare it to the days of Mike Meyers and Chris Farley when you watch it. SNL evolves and changes, as does the humor of the show. You just have to adapt to it, and get into it. I remember watching the show while Mike Meyers Chris Farley were on it and thinking that it wasn't as funny anymore, and then looking back on it and realizing how priceless it was. I think eight years from now people will be like "SNL isn't as funny as when Bill Hader and Kristin Wiig were on it."
