NBC has just announced that they are bringing back Scrubs to Thursday night and moving the new comedy 30 Rock to Thursday too, in an effort to bring back a little old glory to the night. The two comedies will join My Name Is Earl and The Office for a new two-hour comedy block: Earl at 8, followed by The Office, Scrubs, then 30 Rock. ER, the only non-comedy on the night, will stay at 10pm. The new lineup starts on November 16.
One question remains: will the Deal Or No Deal that is currently on at 9 get moved or removed from the schedule?

Maybe they'll move 'Deal' to Wednesdays. That would be more symmetrical as it would then air Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Oh, Scrubs is coming back. Yahoo!

Hmmm, I don't know if this will help 30 Rock or hurt it. That timeslot is pretty much death, and if NBC is looking for anything more than a tiny niche then they're going to be dissapointed. I hope it snags a new viewer or two, because it really is a funny show.
If I were them, I'd lead the night with The Office and follow it with 30 Rock which it would be very compatible with. As the most watched of these shows, Earl would fare best at 9, with the fan-favorite but ratings anemic Scrubs bringing up the rear. Scrubs just isn't going to boost 30 Rock, I'm afraid.

This stinks. Two tuner DVR; already recording Grey's and CSI. Of course, I hate Scrubs anyway, but like 30 Rock.
Sorry, NBC. Dumb move.

They gave Shrubs some respect by putting it into the death slot of the week? There is no chance it will survive.

It looks like they clarified the dates. The 2-hour comedy block starts on the 16th, but Scrubs returns on the 30th. Either way, it's better than January.

J-Spot had the better idea, I like the idea of all 4 programs on 1 night - but the order is wrong.
Scrubs, as much as I enjoy it, should lead-out the night - it won't get a ratings boost and it certainly won't boost any other shows ratings.

I think the overlooked aspect of all this scheduling movement (which I'm in favor of by the way), is the strange phenomenon that has developed in television over the past four years of the masses not watching comedies. Ten years ago all the networks were jam packed with sitcoms (though mostly unfunny ones) between 8pm and 10pm, and now you're lucky if a network even has one on their schedule let alone a whole block.
So my question is, when exactly did the average television viewer quit enjoying laughter?

Thurs nights at 9 PM, NBC - Traditionally the hour of great comedy. Then the demise of Must-See-TV and the addition of Will and Grace to NBC Thursday.
Talk about taking in the wrong chute.

I know all the scrub fans will tune in for sure but this is a hard time slot. Studio 60 would be gone by now if it was in this slot, but luckily the 7 or so million scrub fans will keep the show alive at least until the end of this season. Damn you Zach Braff, your movies stink, you'll always be J.D. to me. Boycott the new "Fletch" people. Make him realize without dream sequences and the bi-racial siamese doctor, he is nothing.

On the one hand, yes, Thursday 9-10 Eastern could be considered a 'death slot' on NBC, given the strong competition. But you could also make the argument that it's solid counter-programming. When FOX has the Super Bowl, what does CBS do? Run a 'chick flick'. This is no different - NBC is offering a comedy alternative to procedural drama (CSI), teen angst drama (The OC), spooky drama (Supernatural), and crap (Grey's Anatomy). I would have actually gone one step farther and moved "Studio 60" to Thursdays at 10 Eastern, with ER shifting to either Tuesday (displacing an L&O) or Wednesday (displacing Dateline).
I'm also curious about the fate of 20 Good Years, not that I've been watching it. Does NBC have any sitcoms in the pipeline for midseason?

SO HAPPY for Scrubs!!! That is great news. I can't wait! I honestly thought I'd have to wait until January again like last year.
Could it be? Maybe? Just maybe, NBC has done something right.
Finally.
