There's a rumor floating around The Tail Section, a Lost fan forum, that ABC is about to announce a new DVD set of Lost in Blu-ray format. What is Blu-ray? It's a high-definition disc that can store substantially more content than a regular DVD and the brand is currently competing against HD-DVD to be the optimum choice for high-def DVDs (kinda like the Beta vs. VHS battle of the '80s). But, the Sony Blu-ray player keeps getting delayed because of various technical glitches.According to the rumor mill, the HDTV enhanced box set of season one will cost $199.99! The site also says that there will be two-episode discs available for $20, which is still $220 for the entire season if you get them all.
I put a call in to Buena Vista about this, but no response yet.
[Thanks, Richard L.!]

Well, this is THE show to watch in HD... but $199? If that is what we are going to be looking forward to for high def copies of seasons of TV shows, the business might be whack.
On the other hand, it might just be the thing to jump-start Blu-ray in the HD disc war.

I think it would be cool to offer the entire season in uncompressed 480p versions on 1 blu-ray 50GB disc. basically taking the 6 dvd set and putting it on one disc.

Didn't I read here that Smallville's last season was coming to HD DVD?

ABC/Buena Vista just confirmed, february 6, Lost in blu-ray.
Blu-ray targets the HD owners. I don't think there's any reason to use it to sell standard def video. For that we already have DVDs.
