Not to mention that she's 13 years old! Obviously, this is a generalization, but kids seldom have that important balance of talent and grace to be really good performers. There's also something really disturbing about seeing a kid be interviewed in the same vain as legends of the music industry. I mean they were talking to her like she was a pioneer, and indulging that very "rock star" fantasy that drives kids to want to be famous (and depressed when they're not).

Finally someone agrees. I mean all those kids are becoming really good fans and they think that she is the best pop star on earth. She has been influencing their lives and when she becomes really popular in a few years they will still follow her even as they grow up. If they ever read something that tells them that she has been lip-syncing they will not believe it and when they finally realize it they will be really mad and some of them heart broken. Even though she is only 13 years old, lip-syncing means that she probably doesn't have talent. There are a lot of kids in the world that have talent and can really sing. Those are the ones kids should be looking up to. Not fake people.

As a mother of a 10yr old girl, and having watched all of them on tv for years, I have asked the same questions myself!: why do they feel they must also have a singing career, but, even in my day all the teenage actors "sang" back then: hayley mills, girl from the donna reed show- shelly fabres, annette funicello and so on.

As a parent my kids love her!! Did you make the connection that Billy Ray Cyrus is her dad? The TV show is based on her being a pop star and trying to live a morally clean normal life. At least you don't see pictures of these Disney Kids in clubs drinking and smoking and pretending to be adults.

She may not be able to sing, but I'd much rather my 6 year old be ga-ga for a "packaged" star from the Disney chanel than some of the other options out there (someone above mentioned Ashelee Simpson -- talking plastic surgery with my 6 year old isn't one of my priorities.) The music is catchy and the lyrics are generally upbeat and empowering.

Give your children better musical role models... for their own sake. Heck, pull out your old record collection and play them some of thos songs -- there's gotta be some good stuff in there.

As for Hannah Montana -- I've thought about this a couple of times before. I think that, in some of the cases, the stars may be forced into it. Corporate convergence is a powerful thing; if they can get Hannah in a tv show, a record store, and a movie theater (just wait), that's the trifecta. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of these Disney Channel contracts have a record contract built right in.

and also, Why would you want your kids looking up to a 13 year old girl who's face is full of make up,has a ton of highlights in her hair, and that wears clothes that no 13 year old wears. I feel sorry for all the girls that don't look like that and feel like "nerds" or "geeks" because they think that thats how you are supposed to act and dress. What ever happened to the cartoons that kids used to watch only 3 years ago?

I know my daughter enjoys the show, but I also use it as a chance to show her what she is being "sold". That just because that girl is singing on TV doesn't mean that she is good at it. (Sad, but usually true) I help her pick out when the singer is missing the notes, or is flat or just plain lip-synching. Now that she is taking choir herself, she laughs at the singing parts of the show.
"Mom, our choir teacher would have stopped us right there and made us do it again. He would have been yelling at us and banging on the piano".

What is wrong with you guys? Destiny 'Miley' Cyrus is a great singer and you know nothing. She may be 13 but she has a great voice and she does not lip-sync. You may think she does but she doesn't. And I'm not just saying this because she is a disney star also. I dislike Raven-Symone and Hilary. I may be 13, but she has a great voice and I am sick and tired of adults thinking we are stupid! The only reason you hate Destiny is because we like her.

She likes sparkiling stuff and people look up to her because if you listen to her words you can compare her life to a child who's having a tough life like me. I.E. The other side of me. What she's is saying that she has another life i compare that to me because I went to a certain school and now I go to another one and in that certain school that i'm in doesn't know that im not really shy or outgoing and that Im a fun person. hannah montana rocks. she is a great singer whos songs are about her life on the show. if parents don't like it, they shouldn't watch it. if they think she is a bad singer, they just should let their kids watch her and the show and never watch it.

I wish all the haters would let miley cyrus be. She is a good singer. Everyone misses notes and if you dont know all singers lip sing every once in a while. She had to audition like everyone else. She was just a luck girl like her songs say. Yeah I'm only 13 and I'm not a big fan of her but I like how she do what she do. She's just living the life she has. People are saying they dont like her and stuff because you cant do what she doing or your kids cant. It is not right to stop your kids from watching a show that she likes. Its not even a bad show. Its very fuuny. She actually about to be 14 in november. I dont know if you need glasses but thats how most teen dress these days. So get over yourself. That girl is living her life the best way she can. She's just following her dreams and encourging your kids to follow theirs. So will you stop hating and let her do her job.

I like Miley, and my daughter and friends just love her and the TV show. Miley's efferevescent personality shows all the time, and is perhaps her biggest asset.

Miley was most definitely *not* lip syncing on this performance. Her recorded songs out of the studio are perfect - always on tune, with steady, resonant voice quality. Studio work is always better than live performances; there is much better acoustics, complex mixing can be done, and you get 'redos' for any goofs.

In this performance Miley was a little off-key several times in the first minute - flat I believe. I thought the last two minutes were much better - almost perfect with just a touch of slight off-key once or twice. In any case, it was definitely not her recorded version of the song.

Most of her concerts as Hannah Montana must have been done with lip syncing; I wasn't sure before, but suspected so because of the large amount of on-stage physical activity; Miley is sometimes practically running from one end of the stage to the other; very hard to do while singing. Also, on some of the concerts, the audio sounds identical to the recorded versions.

The amount of on stage activity in the Hannah Montana concerts requires coordination of activity and music much like that in music videos. In fact, Miley's concerts are packaged on her DVD as music videos. My understanding is that almost everyone lip-syncs on music videos.

Miley's still very young, and learning big time acting and singing at the same time, with very little previous experience. She'll get better.

The bottom line is that this is all entertainment. Whether we like it or not is very subjective. There are lots of entertainers I don't like for various reasons, that rarely has anything personal to do with the performer. If I don't like their type of work, I don't spend time or money on it.

I like Miley because I like her positive attitude, the obvious joy she brings to her performances, and because I think she makes a positive role model for my daughter. I hope she continues doing the kind of work she's been doing.

Hannah Montana is a great person. She may have some rough singing days but I bet you have seen and hurd her on Disney cahnnel and she sings and acts very well. You Should not judje someone you have not met before. she dresses fine(dont even try and judje her makeup)I bet if some people tried to sing in front of everybody they would either 1)freeze up and run of stage. 2)SUCK or 3)not even try(because they alredy know they suck)

If she was lip syncing on Good Morning America, the problem is not Miley Cyrus, it is Disney. I watched an episode where she was singing with her dad and Dolly Parten. They were harmonizing a capella (without instruments), and they were not lip syncing, that was obvious. Doing that takes talent, and she seems to have it. The problem is that, to Disney, she is not Miley Cyrus, she is a product to be marketed. Like any large manufacturing corporation, Disney demands that their products be uniform and consistent. That means the live performances all have to be exactly like the recorded music, and they can not let the fact that Miley is a falible human get in the way of that. So do not think that if Miley is lip syncing it is because she has no talent, it is because she sold that talent to a mindless money-making machine called Disney.
